I need enlightenment on the above topic, is it right or wrong or is there a certain limit for a Christian when it comes to alcohol and what does the Bible really say concerning this very issue of alcohol as it concerns Christianity

We had Bible discussion in church earlier this week on issues of using Herbs as a Christian

The one for the coming week is on Alcohol hence I need contributions from you guys

So Nairalanders Is it right or wrong for a Christian to indulge in Alcohol, if yes please quote the Bible portion to support your point and if No, equally bring proof from the Bible to back up your stance

Proverbs 20:1

1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.


Proverbs 23:31

31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly!
Romans 13:13

13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

Proverbs 31:4-5

4 It is not for kings, Lemuel— it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, 5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

Op the Question should be, Should a Christian Smoke & Drink? Since the Bible did not also mention smoking

There is nothing sinful about alcohol as it is not the issue but having an addiction for it as alcoholism depreciates the human person.

God created palm trees from where palm wine is being tapped from, fruits such as grapes, bananas and other agro products are being crushed and fermented to produce some brands of alcoholic drink. It is like telling Italians who take their wine seriously, that they would go to hell for what is part of their identity.

Yes, the Bible mostly made emphasis on getting drunk from Alcohol and not like it's bad to just drink and you mentioned addiction which I agree with you

Don't drink while you drive and don't drive while you drink could be seen written everywhere. But the human law never say Don't drink at all!

Deuteronomy 14:26 clearly stated that God himself specifically told his own people to eat meat, drink wine and even alcoholic beverages of their choice BEFORE HIS PRESENCE and rejoice!

God's people do drink alcoholic beverages because it's not stated anywhere in the law that they should avoid it!

Jesus Christ our exemplar said with his own mouth "John (Baptist) don't use to eat delicacies neither drink wine, people said John has a demon" why? Because John's best meal is locust and wild honey! Matthew 3:4, Mark 1:6

Jesus used to eat and drink so this same people accused Jesus saying "he is a glutton (someone who eats indiscriminately) and a DRUNKARD (someone who drinks too much)" John 7:31-34

The point we need there is Jesus was accused of being a DRUNKARD! Please what type of drink could someone notice you taking before he/she could label you as a DRUNKARD?
Could it be Coke, Fruit juice or fresh grape wine?

These people are saying all these because they never noticed anytime Jesus will say "i'm fasting" so to them he eats too much, and they never see him condemn/abhor any kind of drink, so to them he is a DRUNKARD!

Of course Jesus did everything MODERATELY!

From all indication, Jesus (the founder of Christianity) did eat and drink alcoholic beverages!

So it's evident that God never condemned drinking alcoholic beverages!

Jesus clearly said that he will DRINK wine in his kingdom (heaven) with his followers! Matthew 26:29
