that's a black mamba, very potent venom which kill within 20mins, a drrop is enough to kill 20 fully grown adult men, it is expected since you have a poultry, you can't really prevent dem from coming but you can atleast get snake traps or plant a particulr leaf called taba leaf it wards dem off

That’s not a black mamba !!
They’re referred to as black mamba because of the distinct black color of the inside of their mouths.
Black mambas are not black:

That’s a black necked spitting cobra.

What Kind Of Snake Is This?

I have a mini poultry and for months I noticed eggs are being tampered with. I suspected a snake but I couldn't find traces until yesterday while trying to relocate some, I found this snake close to one of my chickens laying eggs. It was the culprit. It has killed several of my chickens and I'm happy it met its waterloo.

What kind of snake is this and how do I prevent its reoccurrence?

What baffles me is my poultry is surrounded by houses people live in 247. I wonder where this one came From.

Is there bush around the area? EGGS/BIRDS attract snakes

because it's found there doesn't mean a little fraction of it can't exist in another continent or far away from its original habitat
God bless you.

Go and buy snake repellant and spray it in your poultry's surrounding they hate the odour and they will move far away from your poultry

That's not a black mamba. Black mambas are grey in color. They are called black because of the color of their mouth

If your poultry is housed, just get fishing net . Use it to fence the poultry, you 'll give more testimony...

Every black snake is a mamba to you guys! And you got 30 ignorant likes...a mamba’s colour isn’t even black...it is grey in colour..the markings underneath that snake looks like the west African spitting Bush cobra..though this one has a reddish hue to it instead of light yellowish colour..that snake is very rampant here in Nigeria and the west coast...it’s delicacy are eggs.

Like I said earlier, it’s a specie if the spitting cobra family..it lives around poultry farms..the markings underneath are a dead giveaway.

I've already answered the OP in my previous comment

You are totally wrong. You said a black neck cobra.
Re: This Is The Snake Killing My Chickens & Tampering With Their Eggs In My Poultry by TinwotFarm1(m): 1:47pm On Jan 14, 2020
This is not a black mamba! People should not mis-identify snakes as doing so can lead to ineffectual treatment for anyone unfortunate enough to be bitten. Black mambas are not typically found in Nigeria. This is instead a black-necked spitting cobra. Also venomous, and capable of accurately spitting venom at a threat a distance of more than 20 feet. Fortunately, mortality from being bitten is quite low compared to the puff adder as an example.

I would have said Black Mamba but I am not aware that the Black Mamba inhabits any region in Nigeria or West Africa. So I guess I would agree with the guy who says it's a cobra cos Vipers are obviously not that long.

You sabi am wella. I had killed that type of snake at a site before.

After killing one, next week I saw big one, bigger and longer than the previous one I killed.

Since its head is not triangular in shape, then I would call it a red-bellied snake or some type of bush cobras

You asked how the snake got access when people stay around the place, but the environment is obviously bushy that was why.

There was a way I killed it when I saw it at my site 4 years back.

You need to hide your face. Once it detects the eye, it would aim for it, but if it doesn't see an eye, it wouldn't spite.

I wore a cap and faced it all down, I then took a very long heavy stick, OMOR, I plank its head. It started rolling anyhow, I finally placed the long stick on its head to keep it one place. I went for my cultlass and separated its head from the other parts.

There are some that have yellow bellies, some have white also.

Yeah bro, because tigers are only found in Asia doesn't mean we can't have a small fraction in. Africa. Because kangaroos are only found in Australia doesn't mean we can't find any Asia . Because polar bears are only found in the artic doesn't mean we can't find any in Africa.

NOT an expert on snakes but looks too large to be a black mamba. Check the insides of the mouth if black then it's mamba, but I doubt tho
