There's nothing like engine ratings and design. Your car is either a CNG car or it's not. Nigeria has never been a country where alternative energy has been existing. They tried it LNG one time, but where are the LNG cars today? Maybe in this entire country there was only less than 10 existing LNG public stations. Saw one in Benin years ago, it was as quiet as a grave yard, pretty sure it's dead now because no LNG cars to patronize it. Sahara company then rolled out a few for their staffers, other than that, who will buy an LNG car? Now, you want to talk about CNG, are the cars going to magically convert themselves to CNG cars? Because a gasoline car with gasoline engine cannot run on compressed natural gas unless you convert it. So who's going to bear the cost of conversion? Who will provide the CNG conversion kits? Do you know conversions cost anywhere from around $10k to $100k, depending on the type of car? Does it make economic sense to you for you to spend N3m or more to convert your N1.5m car because you want to buy fuel at N97 pl? It's nothing but another SCAM by this government. Maybe in this entire country, if you're lucky to find CNG cars, it might be less than 5. Buhari government is a scam government. This is just another of their scam promises, same people that promised to make $1 to N1, promised to end Boko Haram... This government disgusts me, makes me wanna puke

If it was that cheap and efficient, developed countries would have been using it 100%, since gas is cheaper.

Types of fuel:

- Standard unleaded petrol
- Premium unleaded
- The ethanol-blended E10 (most Nigerian use)

If its lower than this, be weary of your engine..
I thought as much

I think this could be a very good alternative for car users.alot of taxis(Audi mostly)run on this compressed gas and there are a couple of filing stations round agbor Park and sapele, these are the ones I know and I believe there are many others.it can also be used on generators (I beter pass my. Neighbour exclusive).I think it is clean and safe and even cheaper than PMS.lets be hopeful that these polithivesians are true to their word.at least that's the only thing we can do at this point of our next level.alot of promises without fulfilling them

But really this is a simple issue, the alternative should have been provided a long time ago. not on the CNG, but on the petrol itself, there are different grades of the product, leaded and unleaded etc, one is more costly than the other, knowing Nigerian consumers, the rich who have majority of the cars in Nigeria will always go for the more costly one , the less costly should be subsidized for the average and poor population, this would have solve this problem a long time ago...

I think the refinery dangote is building is funded by the government using dangote name, the dividend will be shareds amongst government official who also invested in the refinery ... Think about it the government know its huge business Instead of reconstructing the national refinery they want to build a private refinery to make huge profit for the select few criminals who invested under dangote's name ....... #truth

I support this govt, confirm from my posts. But this story doesn't make any sense. And your comment doesn't make sense either.

The emboldened texts in your comment above is completely at variance with the narrative behind the so-called CNG. Cos if your engine rating and design is what determines if you are to benefit from the cheap fuel, how then is it to the benefit of the common man? The common man and the big men, who drive cars with better engine designs and engine rating

One thing i like about ppl is that the hardship they support never fails to teach them bitter lessons and it takes only a short time. What makes a quality gasoline is the octane rating and this guy didn't mention that because ppl like u don't care but will sing praises. Isn't it too early to start withdrawing ur support?

1) Compressed Natural Gas is actually cleaner than petrol, so it's good for the environment.

2) Nigeria has much more natural gas than crude oil, in other words, we have more gas than petrol.

But there's a problem.

If you check my posts above, you'll notice that this is not a new idea. This issue has been talked about from time to time since the 1980s.

The issue is, who is going to convert the cars from petrol burning cars into compressed natural gas burning cars? Who is going to provide the filling stations?

These are the questions and unfortunately they have not been answered in this write up.

We have their filling stations in Benin.. One is very close to where I reside

My problem with us is that we never celebrate achievement neither pray for the best for this country, I have read the comments and most were negative, hating and abusive, and we expect good things to happen to us. I say it's a welcome development and I pray it sees the light of the day and for those hating please don't buy the fuel when it eventually comes, bunch of hypocrites. mumus!
It’s not about being pessimistic, it’s high time we Nigerians started asking questions not just swallowing everything they say hook, line and sinker.

It’s not enough for them to tell us the price as being cheaper than PMS. We should also know the details of facts sheet. Like consumption rate, power delivery, cost of engine conversion etc.

If for same distance I’ll consume 2 litres of CNG instead of 1 litre of PMS are you saying I’m penny wise or pounds foolish considering the price is even more than half of PMS.

The only positive I can pick for now is that CNG is cleaner, that is less pollution which a so called “common man” doesn’t give a fûck about.

Modify engine for 200k? Lol. Do you know you have to change your tank to a CNG tank? Do you know the tanks expire?

You are just perpetually empty. What do you know about CNG? Why is it impossible for Nigeria to reduce the cost of PMS to this same 97#/l

Na na, CNG has been in use for quite some time in Benin city, and I can vividly tell you that it is far cheaper to run on than PMS, my cousin uses it with his car and I envy him a lot considering how cheap it is compared to PMS. What we should be concerned with, is the political will to make it available to all Nigerians. cos that project is just a pilot scheme, my fear is the political will to do it, cos in all my life, I have never seen a willing politician.

You don't understand. The first time that I saw a compressed natural gas filling station in Nigeria was in 1989. That's almost 31 years ago. How many of these stations exist across Nigeria today.

Peugeot had committed to making Peugeot 504 cars that ran on compressed natural gas, expecting that there would be filling stations across Nigeria, but how many of these stations are in Lagos? How many are in Abuja? How many are in Enugu? Yet this is 31 years later.
Re: FG Plans N97 Per Litre Fuel For Common Man by TommyAnthem(m): 9:15am On Jan 17, 2020
Most cars in Benin city are running on CNG/PMS, and for your information, it is switchable, you choose which one you want your car to run with anytime you wish, it's as simple as that.
courage89:

Exactly my sentiment. How many vehicles in Nigeria are designed to run on compressed natural gas? How would citizens take advantage of cheaper alternative when they don't have such vehicles? Do we now ditch our current vehicles and buy compressed natural gas vehicles? What's really the message here.

The only good news is the passing of the PIB, long overdue. Hopefully, the timeline as stated by the minister will be realized this time.
