In a renewed effort towards creating awareness on the Lagos State Traffic Laws on restricted areas for the operation of motorcycles popularly called Okada and tricycles known as Keke, the Lagos State Government has commenced the installation of 2,000 prohibition signs across the metropolis.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde disclosed that a good number of the road signs indicate restricted areas, warning that anyone that violates the law after this effort would be punished in accordance with the law.

Oladeinde explained that the road signs have been mounted on major highways including the Third Mainland Bridge, Agege Motor Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Badagry Expressway and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to create awareness on restricted routes for Okadas and Tricycles as prescribed by the State Government.

“We have successfully placed road signs on the Third Mainland Bridge, Agege Motor Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other places to indicate areas that motorcyclists and tricycles are restricted and we urge that they comply for the safety of their lives and members of the public as we will apply the law on any erring Okada rider that violates our law”, the Commissioner warned.

He explained further that motorcycle and tricycle operations remain restricted on highways and bridges in all the Local Government areas including Apapa, Ikeja, Ikoyi, Surulere, Eti-Osa and Lagos Island, adding that same would be done in other areas in order to ensure that road safety culture is engraved in the consciousness of road users across the State.

The Commissioner, however, urged Lagosians to support the State government’s initiatives to tackle traffic gridlock in the metropolis, as it will provide faster results in decongesting the highways of traffic and create a seamless movement of goods and services towards improving the local economy.

Honestly, at this point they can be roasted meat for the cops. I don't care. They are becoming a menace to the society rather than a solution to beat traffic.

Ill-mannered attitude and behaviour like scratching the ground with bottled-water plastics (that shrill kills me honestly), blaring horns like they don't care. angry sad embarassed

Good one but why restricting movement to places like Acme road, Oba Akran which are industrial hubs ?

How would workers commute to their respective organizations when tricycles and motorcycles restricted, with just few buses plying the routes ?

Hahahahahahaha, Mr man I highly doubt it would improve anything even if it is implemented across all states Nigeria. undecided

The average okada man doesn't care about such things except making money and jamming people

Next step: educate road users on how to read and obey the signs.

It's the black race as a whole that is failed. Segmentation along ethnic lines still would not erase this truth.....

Atleast some blacks race are making concious effort to leave the backwardness caused by cultural and religious dogma... Goto Ethopia they are making economical moves, goto rwanda they are doing the same, even ghana that have hausa in the northern volta region are doing far better in living a better way

But then come to Nigeria, Even with the hieght of Insecuirity with people being killed and kidnapped in their homes, Hausa would go deaf silent as if nothing is happening and should an alternative secuirity be sorted after (Amotekun) Northerners would rush to condemn it, asking Us to rely on the failed police system with 500000 personells to 200million people..

Till date Northerners dont want a real census conducted, with Dogara openly rejecting the move in the house, how can we plan properly without knowing our numbers

Again I have stayed in many muslim countries and never have i seen such display of child abuse as practiced with some Monafiq who throw out kids to beg in the name of culture, In Dubai or Abudhabi thats a big crime purnishable to the parents.. because Muhammad SAW stated it clearly children should be treated with utmost love and care

I can go on and on but , its time the north start seeing clearly, Ganduje / Kwankwaso did and or are doing their best, building Intergrated power project and industrial cities, if more northern Governors also spring up with industrilization policies then the insecuirity menace would greatly reduce.. the truth is petty farming and cattle rearing is far less economic activities to sustain a modern family in 2020, we need Agro industrilization

With ur bad network of roads and terrible traffic.

They can restrict kekes bt not bikes especially the corporate Uber bikes. I wonder how the leadership in Lagos thinks. They seem to be adding to the frustration, acting like sadist.
