The fish gets rotten from the head . All what we experience today started from the government,if it will end ,the govt will still be the ones to end it. This corruption started taking shape in the 70s,the govt knows how it started and how to end it.

OruExpress:
And this goes for all governments including Buhari's.

Ask yourself why state workers are the only workers in Nigeria that at guaranteed minimum wage, benefits and vacation, while everyone else is not 100% sure they will be paid for years of work in the private sector. Unless of course they find a job with a foreign company in Nigeria, but at that point what is the differentiating factor other than working for a Nigerian. The rest of us, if we can find work, are subject to nepotism, rape, beatings, humiliation, degradation, insults, to the point that the average Nigerian is employed be someone who treats them worst than an enemy ever could.

This example is small. Buhari is wicked, incompetent, and lawless. But does this differ from the average pastor, iman, lecturer, police officer, husband or even parent? Anytime the greater bulk of Nigerians are given authority, the concentrate their energy on making others feel less than or trapped. At least Buhari is looking out for Fulani people all over West Africa. Who can the average wheelbarrow pusher tell you he's looking out for? What the little authority he has as a wheelbarrow pusher he will hit as many legs as possible, and argue with anyone that objects to the pain. He will damage people's clothes and frustrate them to that small but consistent extent that he can. If you give this person an army and oil budget, what will he do? The woman that beats and degrades her 'house girl' (slave) at every given chance... what will this person do if asked to tend an entire country of poor people?

As much as we want to blame the government for Nigeria's problems, the truth is we excel at creating pain and frustration for each other. Countless Nigerian homes are staffed with fathers who's income begins with their hand and ends with their stomach alone. Many parents cannot keep valuables in their house because their own children will steal it. Most pastors, when given a chance to speak will focus on creating animosity and paranoia from their followers. The hear more prophecies than all of the prophets combine, and declare and decree more than Jesus ever did. Go to a Nigerian church and all you will hear is 'binding' 'devil' 'fire' 'blood' 'destroy' 'rebuke' 'hate' 'steal your destiny' 'die, die, die'. Then after hearing this bloodthirsty sermon for four hours, a person will emerge from that church filled with the spirit of division and conflict, which he or she (usually she) will call 'the holy spirit'. Go to church anywhere else and you will walk out with new insights on life and a hopeful feeling. Go to Nigeria and someone has buried your destiny in the sand and must die. And don't let me start with the imams.

So what will it be? I cannot ask everyone to change Nigeria, and this is only a post on a forum so I don't expect to do miracles. But please, whatever authority you have in your personal life, and the authority you will soon gain, please be humane to the people around you. Whether you're the person with the wheelbarrow or the next president, live a life that makes life a blessing.
. One that always break me is how we treat our house help. Nigerian won't make heaven unless we change for good.

Are you trying to subtly exonerate the government?

Maybe.
The same way the zonebees use the cabal to exonerate barawo bubu's incompetence, looting and corruption.

Nigerians used to be happy people, they can dash someone money at will without blinking an eye and they treat their fellow well untill this evil government came. Nigerians are now aggressive and the country is now the survival of the fittest. Government is to be blamed although there are some bad eggs among us but the first blame will go to the government.

Fact remains, it is govt. There is no business you are doing now that govt policy and programmes will make it prosper. I mean running cost and expenses - rent, transportation, business association and more importantly purchasing power customers which is stangle by running cost of govt officials and functionaries, not even civil servants.

This is gospel truth. I wish there was a way for everyone to have a sincere reflection on the points raised. People yell, Nigeria is bad... a hellhole! But is a country not it's people? Nigeria is filled with Nigerians. So if Nigeria is bad, then... (do the math). EVERYONE IN GOVT IS A NIGERIAN! Again... do the math.

I'm in construction. Whenever we go to a site, the gateman/guard that is smiling and shaking in front of his oga (our client) is the same one that will frustrate everything we try to do on site when the oga is gone. Because he has a little power. Every single time, every single site that has one, without fail! But begin to give him N200, buy him a drink and he's on your side! Is that not receiving bribery at your place of work!?

Now imagine that gateman, that curses the thieves in government everyday for his woes, becomes a community leader, a LG chairman, a commissioner, a house of rep member, senator, governor or president. His subjects are doomed!

Many Nigerians don't practice the word LOVE..we are all hypocrites.. An average Nigerian listens to the news and hears how hundreds, thousands of people were killed unjustly in a particular region BT will totally feel unconcerned...they easily move on with their daily duties not even being sympathetic.. This country has the most religious houses than everyother country in the world bt our wickedness is worst than the so called devil .always praying against the devil not knowing we are actually worst than the devil.Falz, said it all.EVERYBODY IS JUST AN HYPOCRITE.

I totally disagree with you Op. Nigeria government are not trying at all. Many Nigerians are struggling and hustling day to day to make a living but our government policy are not helping the masses. It only favour tthemself.

I agree. Anyone thinking that govt should be absolved from all the wrongs of Nigerians is not looking deep. Govt is people and people govt. That's why it is proper to select the best amongst the people to lead. By so doing there will be direction and measured progress that should trickle down to everyone. When you get it wrong repeatedly, you end up in a mess. That's where we are today.

I might have to agree with the OP on this based on personal experience; one of which is the wicked and unjustifiable hike in transport fare last December and this January. I mean there has been no increase in fuel price or whatsoever, yet these wicked drivers inflate transport fare and worst still, stuff passengers like animals just in the bide to make quick money. Yet we have the nerve to scream government government when we are actually worst.

Nigeria is great with talenled people all that is left is compassion we lack compassion. most of our religious organizations are not helping. When we begin to show enough compassion to our fellow brothers, sisters and environment then this country will be great but now it a wicked country for wicked people.

Very good points by the OP.

Country of government blamers. My favourite is ''we don't manufacture common toothpicks'', the implication being it's the govt's fault.

Pray, is it govt's job to build toothpick factories?

Or is it your job as a member of the private sector?

What stops you from starting a toothpick manufacturing business in your backyard, if you notice there's a gap in the market, leading to importation of same?

Much easier to blame Buhari, or blame ''Nigeria'', and sit on your fat asss.

U made a good point about the role of the private sector. But I would like us to know some basic things. Fundamentally, Nigeria is sick. Not just Nigeria, the entire black race. The govt is a reflection of the people. The people in govt are not foreigners, they are Nigerians.

One of the major areas we have a problem as people is our value system. We value material things at the detriment of core issues. Typically, Nigerians love money, love to show off, and love to oppress. Nigerians, we dont mind oppressing others. So, once we get into govt, we continue to use the instruments of power at our disposal to oppress others, steal becus we love money. U can see how much we reward students, or honest people. We rarely do so. But we reward anyone who is naked. That is our value system.

That is on the part of value system. Can it be corrected, Yes. We need a strong family properly guided policy to be able to fix the issue of value system while we target upcoming generation. I mean, strict state controlled family policy and pry school core value systems.

But the major issue now is our system of govt. The private sector can only work if the govt provide enabling environmnt. Right now, we dont have stable electricity, our health care system is zero, our educational system produces wack graduates, our transportation system is dead, the tribal friction is too much, insecurity is extremely high, people are scared of investing their money.

The major problem with this is our system of govt. If u check out what the Europeans did to the countries in Africa, u will understand that the British used divide and rule strategy on almost all their colonies. That system worked well for them in Nigeria and destroyed the country. The first thing is for us to tell our selves the truth, we can never ever ever ever ever ever ever love our selves because we dont even see our selves as one. We were never one. We are product of a greedy British empire. That we must fix if we want to create enabling environment for private sector.

Here is the issue. Racism even at the most advanced countries have not been fixed and can never ever be fixed. This is the reality of the human race. The Europeans knew this and they gave room for self rule, especially in western europe. They knew what tribalism can do to a country so they tried to eliminate anything that could bring tribalism into their polity. That is why u see countries with small population not even to two states in Nigeria working as a sovereign state. The United states and UK models are totally different from what we do here. In nigeria, what we practice is Unitary Federalism. This cant work, lie lie! Why?

The ruling class are aware of this and we rather die than allow this system to fail. They know that once it fails, they are gone. The greatest way to achieve development is when ur citizens can hold the leaders accountable. But right now, we cant. I cant hold my state accountable for poor electricity, i av to go to Abuja to hold the FG accountable. This is wrong for such a big country. If im far far away from Abuja, I av to travel down to that place to hold them accountable. Unfortunately, it doesnt end there.

Once u want to hold them accountable, it would be seen from the tribalism line and it will make a mess of everything. In govt, it is best known that nations function better as countries than states. States are made up of people with heterogeneous just like Nigeria while nations have people who share similar history. To enable states work better, I mean countries like Nigeria, then they must put an end to their unitary federalism system of govt.
If there are no enabling environments, the private sector wont work. I run a business and i know how hard it is for me to cope with poor electricity, and internet issue. These are basic issues that should be readily available. The govt has the duty to make these things available for private sector to invest in. So, the entire African continent is into different wars and issues caused by tribalism and ethnic related. This is the product of European fussion of ethnic groups into one state. We must come out and design another system of govt that is not European style since we are not made up like them.

If you are half smart, you will realize that even though govt isn't supposed to build industries, it is however meant to put in place the things that will encourage and support industrialization.
I'm absolutely sure you have NEVER owned your own business. Else you won't post this trash.

Who sets up a factory that is heavily dependent on constant electricity, water supply and good transport facilities where there's none?
Next, govt brings in multiple taxation to stifle the struggling company. I own a business. I know what is involved.
Have you asked yourself why many companies and factories keep closing down, and relocate to other west African countries?

Societies don't develop by magic.

o.p, I used to think like this, but wait, it is more than this, there is a level of poverty that is compatible with the human soul, we have passed that level, most Nigerians are facing naked poverty ( penury ) . At this stage conscience is killed for survival, good upbringing is discarded for a plate of food etc it has never been this bad. extreme poverty is a direct or remote factors in ways Nigerians behave, that is why most poor people called to serve at any level would see it as a poverty escape route.
When I was younger, people in my area usually ostracize anybody with questionable character or source of income cos the poverty rate then was relatively low making people follow morals and asking the right questions but someone not sure of what to eat would seer his conscience involuntary, this is not rocket science, to escape poverty, we have to make ourselves better and do things in different way but the bulk of the work lies in the hand of the government to create a conducive environment for the populace. .........Person wey dey hungry no dey listen to preaching.
