My brother or sister truth be told, it's not worth it at all. Please stay in Nigeria.

It's only worth it for those that don't have doubts. If you know you're having doubts don't bother at all. The stress here is too much, life is hard etc. Even the air we're breathing is taxed. Please just stay in naija and be managing the small small stress there, it's nothing compared to canada stress.

Good day All,

I just wanted to know how to go about Nigerian passport renewal. Already applied online and paid. But it seems they randomly assign interview date. The issue now is that the date assigned is too near and flight cost from Calgary to Ottawa for that period is crazy.

Is it possible to request for another date so as to check for cheaper flights and plan better, essentially?
Cc: @Blackbuddy, @40manlappy, @jesusbaby01

I've been informed by those who went for passport renewal recently in Ottawa that they are not strict with the dates. Just show up with your print out, proof of payment and you should be done in about 3 to 4 hours. Have a safe trip.

Just an observation about networking and using LinkedIn. People say networking is key which is absolutely true but what I noticed here is people readily accept your LinkedIn connection which is quite nice because in Nigeria some people dont really accept.

But when you send a message they don't respond. This has happened mostly with recruiters. And I wonder why?

How much risk are you willing to take on? Equities, Mutual Funds, REITs, ETFs et al...so many ways to grow your money, it's your risk appetite that'd determine how far you can go.

Please guys, I am married, have a daughter. I want to start the PR progress as a single applicant. Then if successful, will sponsor my family after two or three years to join. Hope it wouldn't cause any issue with PR

You want to damage your family. You know a lot of uncomfortable things can happen in those 2-3 years apart.

Bros i can agree with you, i work 2 jobs and its like crazy.. nothing like free money or keep the change lol

hayor2014:

There is no truth to be told here, Canada is a place to work hard and hustle, else...you will SUFFER grin grin grin grin
on a serious note, you simply need a lot of research done, What do you and your partner wanna do when you get here ?
what qualifications do you have ?
what qualifications are accepted here for the job you intend to do ?
Are you willing to become a student again ?
Are there certifications you need to take..
On the short run, thing might be tough but you simply need to keep your eyes on the prize.
I advise friends to start writing their professional exams(CIA and CISA for Auditing) from naija ( a mistake i made), interestingly no one has listened to me so far, I am presently working part time and writing my exams also.
is it easy ?......HELL NO, but i have my eyes on the prize and will do whatever i need to to get the certifications.( 2 stages down....2 to go)

In summary, No 2 stories are the same, luck/destinies are different , the opportunities here are so much and they defy age, gender or religious barriers.
It all depends on you.

I just got here in Ottawa less than a week ago and I must confess that I have wasted a chunk of my life in Nigeria. Life is actually very easy and not as hard as we see it in Lagos.

Although, I haven’t started job hunting but I believe I’d find something once I begin next week.

I worked in a Bank in Nigeria and thought I was enjoying until I came here.

Thank you Canada for opening your doors.

It seems the stress in Canada is comparable to that of Nigeria, though in a different way.

It looks like a case of one stress, relocated to another type of stress considering what I am reading here.

Does it worth it coming to Canada.

Someone should tell me the truth

It is not worth it.

Nigeria and Buhari are the best things that ever happened to humanity after toast bread.

Enjoy.

The assigned interview dates is just for formality, you can go there whenever you want as long as you've registered and paid online. For confirmation you can call the high commission phone line in Ottawa and you will hear that in the voice prompt before an agent takes your call. Remember to print copies of all forms you're instructed to print and take them along, nor reason say you don fill them online so no need. They actually demand them when you get there.
