Hello everyone, good evening/morning. I appreciate you all for a great job done here thus far. I’m new here, and I’d like to ask some questions....

I just got admission into Texas tech Uni (department of political science).. I got an offer as a TA to online graders. The assistantship comes with a stipend of $10,000 for the period of 9 months (which I can’t really make sense of)...

The admission and offer came few hours ago.. I wish to seek your individual opinion, based on experience overtime about the funding (check attached), before sending a mail to the graduate coordinator.

Thanks

Hi congrats on your offer. What I understand from your offer is that, you will get a stipend of $10,000, all your tuition would be waived but just part of your other fees will be waived.

For instance, for me, my full tuition was waived but I still have to pay the mandatory fees which is about $1000 per semester and my health insurance.

Like others suggested, wait for the response from the grad cord.

Congrats once again

About $30,000.. The assistantship obviously doesn’t come a long way. Not a fair deal I bet..

Congratulations!

I can tell you for free that a lot of graduate programs tend to make the wordings of their offer of financial support a bit vague. My conjecture is that these letters are worded thus to give them an out - while mitigating the risk of legal actions - whenever they can't meet the financial obligation.

However, I'm almost certain your offer will cover a minimum of 6 credit hours out of the 9 you'll be expected to enrol in.

Also, 10,000 dollars stipend for a non stem program in Texas is quite generous.

Hi, thanks so much for the insight. Your individual inputs have come a long way, hence giving me a sense of direction of what to ask the Graduate coordinator. I await his response, and I hope the deficit won’t be much.

Although I’m currently waiting for 4 other schools;

George Washington Uni
Uni of Kansas
Kansas state Uni
Bowling Greene State Uni

I have until April 15 to accept Texas tech offer. Waiting patiently to see what other schools have to offer.

Until then, I hope to share it with this family (thread) in proxy. Thanks once again!

I said it before that your in-state and out of state has been waived. You only have to pay approximately 1000 dollars per semester. That's program fees. While you earn approximately the same amount monthly. This is a good offer for you. Congrats

Not sure of the latter that’s why I’m asking..!
When applying to TTU for a PhD, do you need to apply separately for scholarship/assistantship ?...I just submitted a PhD application but the Uni and department is not to clear about funding

Someone on this thread narrated how she didn't get enough funding at first and then she requested for more funds, which she later got after some time. I don't know if it's a wonderful idea but, it might be an option.
You can also wait for feedback from other schools you applied to.
I guess the above isn't necessary any more. Congratulations man, start packing!
