'I would like to continue as Nigeria coach' – Rohr targets contract renewal with Super Eagles

NIGERIA

The German tactician and the Nigerian football governing body are set for crunch talks over the renewal of his contract as the Super Eagles handler

Gernot Rohr has expressed his desire to continue as Nigeria coach as he nears the expiry of his current contract with the three-time African champions.

The German joined the West African nation in August 2016 on an initial two-year deal which was extended until June 2020 after the country secured a place at the Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Since he took over at the helm, the former Bordeaux and Nice manager has guided the Super Eagles to the World Cup and the African Cup of Nations, where they finished third in Egypt last year.

With contract talks scheduled to take place in February, Rohr hopes to continue his adventure with the Super Eagles as they target a place at the Afcon 2021 in Cameroon and 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 66-year-old also acknowledged how he has developed a youthful team despite the retirement of key players like Victor Moses, John Obi Mikel and Odion Ighalo.

“I have been there for more than three years and it is long for Nigeria, because rarely can a coach be maintained as long. And it was possible because the results were good, that the team has evolved and that we accomplished the mission of rejuvenation," Rohr told Girondins 33.

“It was planned and we managed to do it with young players including the two that you know, who play in the Girondins (Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja), and there are others in England, in Spain, etc... We no longer have a big star, because John Obi Mikel retired, Victor Moses also retired for family and age reasons and even our top scorer, Odion Ighalo, announced his retirement after Afcon 2019.

“We managed to find a scorer in Victor Osimhen, and other playmakers: we have Samuel Chukwueze who plays at Villarreal, the little Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux who plays very well with us - one of the best every time he plays with Nigeria. So we have a very, very young, promising team, and I would like to continue.

“We will see the leaders soon. It is planned for the month of February and possibly before the matches in the month of March for the qualification of African Cup of Nations. Perhaps we could agree to continue the adventure with Nigeria.”

Nigeria will resume their qualifying campaign for the 2021 Afcon with a double-header fixture against West African neighbours Sierra Leone on March 23 and 31.

Enyimba playing at home against Hassan Agadir in the CAF confederation cup game. They are trailing 0-1 after 14 minutes.

Nigeria's other representative Rangers FC are away in Egypt against Pyramid FC. It's still goalless after 14 minutes.

Burnley are the latest Premier League club linked with a move for Nigerian-born winger Bright Osayi-Samuel, according to reports.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claims The Clarets are monitoring the Queens Park Rangers dazzler and he could be a possible acquisition in the January transfer window or at the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Burnley face competition for the services of Osayi-Samuel, with Southampton also credited with an interest in the former Blackpool wonderkid.

A possible swap deal between Burnley and Queens Park Rangers may be on the cards as the Championship side are interested in signing Nahki Wells, who was loaned out by the Clarets to the London club.

The 22-year-old has lit up the Championship this season, scoring 4 goals and has produced five assists in 20 matches, and also featured in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Predominantly a right winger, Osayi-Samuel can also be utilized in midfield if the need arises.

He joined Queens Park Rangers from Blackpool in September 2017 and has a contract with the club until the end of the season.

Who would you choose between Lingard and Iwobi?

What sort of no-brainer question is this?

Iwobi and Lingard, a player with zero assists + zero goals in the EPL throughout 2019 in the same sentence??

Chaaaiiii..... Musa has seen it all. The end is near... What the f**k?

Not surprising judging by their recent form. Salisu's men are on a three game Winning run and this could make it four.

I hope it will be enough to save them, but it's a good result regardless and a huge morale booster seeing as Pyramids currently top the group.

No it's a valid question

I watched Lingard today and he ran for 90 minutes (something Iwobi can't do)

He's also energetic and contributes defensively and in pressing teams from the front, then his selection for England and Man Utd may not be a stupid decision

Iwobi is not a stats monster himself wink

And with these results Eyimba are through to the knock out stagees with a game to spare, just behind Hassania Agadir. While Rangers Will have to pray that Al Masry drop points tonight to have a hope of qualifying on the last match day.

Modified: Enyimba not through yet. We need to see the result of the other group game later tonight.

Wow. Interesting. A draw would have been wonderful but bagging yet another win, this time away on the continent against a team who was on a 10 match unbeaten run in the competition.

I must confess, I have been impressed with the work of Salisu at Rangers in recent weeks but this one today is a Masterclass.

A huge morale booster like you say. Will it be enough to take them through? Well that depends on the result of the other game and then Rangers' last game too. But whatever happens, Rangers and Salisu have seriously got my attention now. Their brand of football and tactical discipline recently is beautiful to see.

At least Iwobi didn't go a whole year without a goal or an assist in the EPL!!! Mehn... Lingard's runnings amount to emptiness and nothing if no goals and assists come out of it. He ran all day in 2019 and wetin happen? Abeg... Don't insult Iwobi Biko!

Akwa vs Heartland
Got to watch Ezenwa today. He conceded 3 goals but none were really his fault.

Samuel Nnosiri also made a killer run that resulted in a goal for heartland.

Also Akwa signed that dada CB from the U23s Olisa Ndah and he made his debut today.
