Walk like it is done all over the world. When you get off the tube in central London,or Metro in NY Manhattan, there is no keke or okada. If your office is 1km away from the station you have to walk. Are you that lazy that you cant walk from EKO hotel to Ligali Ayorinde or Etim Inyang less than 500m away?
Kekereekun123:
This is madness. How do you get to work from eko hotel if not bike or keke marwa ehn.

This is commendable!

From Anambra state, I support this move with 1 million Naira to empower the task force that will clamp down on those animals. Yes... They are animals with there jaga jaga driving style. You put head here.. A keke man jumps in front of you. You put head another place, they are there like demons.

Sanwo Olu, thanks a lot. DO NOT RELENT IN PUNISHING THEM. THEY WANT TO RUBBISH AND OVER RUN LAGOS WITH THERE DIRTY DRIVING PATTERN.

Lagos is not Aba, Oshogbo, Elele, Ibadan or Upper Iweka for crying out loud.

Those animal bike and keke people made me run away from Lagos with my car. Infact, I had to move back my two cars to the East and kept only 1 in Lagos because these animals were hell bent on turning them to Kabu Kabu.

Lagos has now become a mad max kind of city with no laws at all. Green green bikes every where. You banned local bikes and allowed green green bikes to take over a major city? Can these chinese company try this nonsense in Beijing, Hangzhou or Shandong provinces? At a time, I was asking myself who will rescue this city because its now madness all over!

Sanwo Olu, I am an Igbo man but I love and commend you with passion. You are far better than that baby pig called Ambode.

Under Ambode, Mainland was literally dying. But Under you, the potholes are disappearing at an alarming rate. From Ijaiye road down to Akilo down to Oba Akran ontoward Maryland, your good works speaks for themselves. Infact, your ministry of LSPWC is doing very well at an excellent speed. I see them working day and night. Even Ahmadu Bello on Victoria Island now wears a new look under you. Thank you sir.

Naptu2, if you are close to this government, please tell them to take the enforcement very serious because if they don't, it will be watered down.

Keke people and Bike people don't obey traffic laws. How can Keke be allowed to run traffic lights in a major city and police and LASTMA will idly look away and say... Its just keke. Like what da hell?

How can you allow keke to form 2 more lanes by the road side which should be buffer zones in case a car spoils on the road and needs to be repaired? The irony of it is that when they now meet a spoilt car in the buffer zone, they will try to navigate back to the road and join the normal lane thereby causing more traffic gridlock!

Sanwo olu, please form a new unbribable task force that will over see this rule. Ban all these hellish Okadas and Keke from Lagos.

All the Abokis from the North are trooping into Lagos in millions to come and drive keke. The better option would have been those mini buses. They can be brought in more to alleviate the suffering masses.

BUT AS LONG AS KEKE AND OKADA IS CONCERNED, PLEASE BAN THOSE ANIMALS TOTALLY FROM LAGOS ROADS ESPECIALLY IKEJA, OJODU BERGER, IKOYI, VI, LEKKI AND MARYLAND AXIS. They don't obey traffic rules and they feel that they are not answerable to anybody. They scratch peoples cars with wickedness and do not care! If possible, every seized okada or Keke should be burnt immediately.

Otherwise, they should be relegated to streets and estates as they were rightly designed for.

THANK YOU SIR.

The Lagos State Government has banned motorcycle taxis, popularly known as Okada and auto-rickshaws, popularly known as Keke Marwa from operating in some local governments in the state. The ban takes effect from February 1, 2019.

The local governments include Lagos Island Local Government, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Surulere and Ikeja. This was made known by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, Mr Jubril Gawat. The ban will also affect ride hailing services like O-Pay and Gokada.

Do you mean 2020?

This is good news, Im very pleased.

Honestly, the kekes and okadas can be real nuisance, especially on the highways; obstructing your path, bashing your car, etc.

However, it'll be good to know the alternatives the govt is putting in place. Due to poor town planning a number of Lagos roads are not motorable; a lot of Lagosians don't own cars; the traffic is already terrible even to drive in the shortest distances; these are massive sources of livelihood for a lot of Lagosians; etc.

So alternatives, particularly in the inner roads are imperative for this to have a reasonable chance of success. Personally, I think the govt should have rather considered more regulation/control of these guys than outright ban.

Although the okadas and keke-marwa operators can be a thorn in the flesh of other road users, I think the government can use common sense to find a way to make everyone coexist without much hassle. Have they provided jobs for the many that would be rendered jobless? Good idea but execution is zero

People should walk or use bicycles for short distances
25 years ago we did not have the proliferation of okada and people still moved about in Apapa.

How do people travel short distances in London where there is poor Tube coverage?

They take buses ,taxis or walk

In Amsterdam they ride bicycles

The only problem with this policy is that it does not cover the whole state thereby creating a sort of apartheid.

Okada work in Lagos state cannot be a solution for national unemployment

I would suggest that in those places where okada remains there should be a timetable to a total ban across the state
Also there should be a fixed quota of total number of riders for each local government area who cannot only operate with a permit licence.
This should be reserved ONLY for people who can pass an interview conducted in Yoruba language

I am sorry but using London has reference to your point was a bit I won’t say dumb. Is the Lagos state government willingly to get buses in this route? You talked about buses and taxis. How about the ones that can afford to take taxis? Like someone said up there, Lagos should stop using first world template. We are still a third world country.
