United States President Donald Trump unveiled his long-delayed Middle East plan on Tuesday - a proposal Palestinian leaders called a "conspiracy" that "will not pass".

"Today, Israel has taken a giant step towards peace," Trump said as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood by his side.

"My vision presents a win-win solution for both sides," he said, adding that Israeli leaders have said they will endorse the proposal.

Before the proposal was announced, Palestinians called it dead on arrival, saying it was an attempt to "finish off" the Palestinian cause.

Following Trump's announcement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said "a thousand no's" to the plan.

Netanyahu meanwhile said it was a "historic day" and thanked Trump for his proposal. He said if Palestinians agree to the plan, Israel will be willing to negotiate "right away".

Jerusalem 'undivided capital'
Trump's initiative, whose principal author is his son-in-law Jared Kushner, follows a long line of efforts to resolve one of the world's most intractable issues. Israeli-Palestinian peace talks collapsed in 2014.

Palestinians have refused to engage the Trump administration and denounced its proposal's first stage - a $50bn economic revival plan announced last June.

The 50-page political outline recognises Israeli sovereignty over major illegal settlement blocs in the occupied West Bank, something to which the Palestinians will almost certainly object. Trump said Israel would be granted security control of the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank.

Trump said Jerusalem will remain Israel's "undivided capital". But he also said under the plan, "eastern Jerusalem" would serve as a capital of a State of Palestine. He did not elaborate on what he meant by eastern Jerusalem. He later said on Twitter the a Palestinian capital could be in parts of "East Jerusalem".

Trump had already recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the city.

Responding to the plan, Abbas said, "Jerusalem is not for sale; all our rights are not for sale and are not for bargain."

Sami Abu Zhuri, a Hamas official, said Trump's statement was "aggressive and will spark a lot of anger".

"Trump's statement about Jerusalem is nonsense and Jerusalem will always be the land of the Palestinians," Zhuri told Reuters News Agency. "The Palestinians will confront this deal and Jerusalem will remain a Palestinian land."

Earlier on Tuesday, thousands of Palestinians rallied in the besieged Gaza Strip to protest the expected plan. Protests also took place in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.

Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera's senior political analyst, said the "the devil is not in the detail in this case".

"The devil is in the headlines," Bishara said. "What we have here is a very clever, devilish clever, repackaging of the chronic problems in Israel and Palestine and promoting them as solutions."

'Dangerous consequences'
Most regional leaders slammed the plan, but others cautiously offered encouragement for the Israelis and Palestinians to come to the negotiating table.

Jordan warned against "annexation of Palestinian lands" with the kingdom's foreign minister warning against the "dangerous consequences of unilateral Israeli measures that aim to impose new realities on the ground".

Numan Kurtulmus, deputy chairman of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK), also slammed Trump's statements on Jerusalem, saying: "No, Trump! Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state and the heart of the Islamic world!"

Lebanon's Hezbollah movement called the proposal a "deal of shame", adding that it was a very dangerous step that would have negative consequences on the region's future, according to Al Manar TV.

It also said the proposal would not have happened without "complicity and betrayal" of several Arab states.

Egypt urged Israelis and Palestinians to "carefully study" the proposal. The foreign ministry said in a statement that the plan favours a solution that restores all the "legitimate rights" of the Palestinian people through establishing an "independent and sovereign state on the occupied Palestinian territories".

The United Arab Emirates's ambassador to the US said in a statement that the UAE believes Palestinians and Israelis can achieve lasting peace and genuine coexistence with the support of the international community.

The UN said it was committed to helping Israelis and Palestinians broker peace on the basis of UN resolutions, international law, bilateral agreements and the vision of two states based on pre-1967 borders. One such UN resolution was adopted by the Security Council a month before Trump took office in January 2017. The resolution demanded an end to Israeli settlements, with 14 votes in favour and one abstention by former US President Barack Obama's administration.

Honest broker?
Palestinians have previously said the US cannot be an honest broker for peace in the region, accusing it of pro-Israel bias.

In addition to moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, the Trump administration has also slashed hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and recognised Israeli sovereignty over the Israel-occupied Golan Heights.

The Trump administration in November reversed decades of US policy when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that Washington no longer regarded Israeli settlements on occupied West Bank land as inconsistent with international law.

Kushner told Al Jazeera that the US believes Trump's proposal is "the last chance for the Palestinians to have a state".

"It's time [for Palestinians] to let go of past fairy tales that quite frankly will never happen," he added.

The proposal comes as Trump and Netanyahu face political issues at home.

Trump was impeached in the US House of Representatives last month and is on trial in the Senate on abuse of power charges. He also faces reelection in November. Netanyahu faces corruption charges and a national election on March 2, his third in less than a year. Both men deny wrongdoing.

Netanyahu's election rival, Benny Gantz, who was also in Washington, DC, this week said he, too, supported the proposal.

"The president's peace plan is a significant and historic milestone indeed," Gantz told reporters on Monday.

A new Balfour': Palestinians reject Trump's Middle East plan

United States President Donald Trump's Middle East plan, also known as the "Deal of the Century", has been denounced by the Palestinians as a "new Balfour Declaration".

Trump revealed his plan on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing by his side at the White House.

Introducing the proposal as a "win-win solution" for both Israelis and Palestinians, he said the deal would ensure the establishment of a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Trump led his statement by introducing the Israeli side of the plan, announcing that Jerusalem would remain the "undivided capital" of Israel, adding that this has "already been done".

He also said he hoped to implement the plan "immediately".

Netanyahu, speaking after Trump, thanked the US president for a "historic day" and said the plan would see Israeli law implemented in the occupied West Bank's Jordan Valley as a means to ensuring the security of Israel.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military sent troops there as reinforcement in anticipation of possible clashes following the announcement.

'Already in the works'
Palestinian politicians and activists slammed the proposal, with many pledging to "fight against the plan".

"He [Trump] is giving away what he does not own, to people who have no right to it," Fakhry Abu Diab, a Palestinian activist in Silwan neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem, told Al Jazeera.

"It is obvious that Trump is repeating history by establishing new Balfour Declaration.

Following Britain's pledge to establish "a national home for the Jewish people", the Balfour Declaration was issued on November 2, 1917. It turned the Zionist aim of establishing a Jewish state in Palestine into a reality.

The British pledge has been viewed as one of the main catalysts of the Nakba - translating as "The Catastrophe", al-Nakba refers to the mass exodus of at least 750,000 Arabs from Palestine - and regarded as one of the most controversial and contested documents in the modern history of the Arab world.

"This deal only secures Israeli interests while violating international law and some of the main pillars of a Palestinian state - Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley," Abu Diab said.

"After decades of sacrificing our lives for this cause, we want our freedom and a Palestinian state along the 1967 border, not some economic gains.

"We completely reject this plan and will continue to fight it," he added.

In June 2019, the economic aspect of the deal was revealed at a summit in Bahrain. It promised Palestinians $50bn in investment.

Former Palestinian Authority minister Ziyad Abu Zayyad said the plan was completely unacceptable to the Palestinians.

"We will never give up Jerusalem as our capital, nor the Jordan Valley and areas in the West Bank as part of our state," he told Al Jazeera.

"Trump and Netanyahu have no right to give away Palestinian rights," he said, adding that he expects a strong reaction on the streets across Palestine.

According to Sami Abu Shahada, a Palestinian member of the Knesset, the plan has long been in the works.

"The deal has been under implementation long before its announcement," said Abu Shahada, referring the US move of its embassy to Jerusalem and its annexation of the Golan Heights.

"The goal of this deal is to try to end the Palestinian question. All Palestinians, whether inside Israel, the West Bank or Gaza, reject it, he added. "We will all fight against this."

The Arab Joint List, an alliance of Palestinian parties in Israel, issued a strong statement condemning the plan.

"The Deal of the Century reinforces Israeli occupation and violates Palestinians rights," read the statement."It has nothing to do with peace and is far from establishing a path towards negotiations."

Rising tensions
Shortly after the announcement, mosques across the occupied West Bank launched the call to prayer in a move to announce their rejection of the deal and their readiness to fight against it.

Dozens of Palestinians took to the streets in Ramallah to denounce the plan, while hundreds of others continued to demonstrate in the Gaza Strip.

"Palestine is not for sale," crowds in Gaza chanted earlier in the day, raising banners and burning photos of Trump.

The unveiling of the Israeli-US plan for the region comes at a crucial moment for Trump and Netanyahu, both of whom are facing upcoming elections and domestic tensions.

"Netanyahu realises that this is the final stage of his rule as prime minister and so he wants to leave a legacy behind by ensuring the success of this deal," Israeli analyst Mayer Cohen told Al Jazeera.

Earlier on Tuesday, Netanyahu was formally indicted in court on corruption charges after he withdrew his request for parliamentary immunity from prosecution.

"When it became clear that he was going to be humiliated in the Knesset, he decided to drop his request," said Yair Wallach, senior lecturer In Israeli studies at the University of London.

"The deal is, therefore, very useful for Netanyahu because it may distract from the corruption charges," added Wallach.

For Cohen, the deal is equally important of Trump who faces an impeachment.

"The timing of this announcement is a way to push back against his (Trump's) opponents by telling them that while they try to isolate him, he is still trying to look at the bigger picture and leave a legacy behind," explained Cohen.

Shortly after the announcement, Hamas, which has led the Gaza Strip since 2007, released a statement saying it will take measures to resist the plan's implementation.

As the announcement began, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas started an emergency meeting of the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah - an unprecedented move - which also included West Bank-based officials from Hamas, which pledged to "resist the deal in all its forms."

Speaking from Ramallah following the meeting, Abbas said Washington's proposal will "not pass" as it aims to end the Palestinian cause.

"Palestine is not for sale. The Deal of the Century belongs to the dustbin of history," said Abbas, who added that he is only open to negotiations if they are "in line with international legitimacy".

"This deal is the final phase of the Balfour Declaration," he added.

Azzam al-Ahmad, a member of the Fatah's Central Committee, said the Palestinian Authority has proposed an emergency Arab League summit to be held in Cairo on Saturday.

"The Arab League must refute this plan and all Arab states must unite against it," said Ahmad. "We call on the Gulf states specifically to reject this plan, especially that some of them have recently moved to normalise relations with Israel," he told Al Jazeera.

Both Trump and Netanyahu thanked Bahrain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates for sending their ambassadors to attend the meeting at the White House.

Palestinian need to take it and let peace reign. They have lost everything fighting for their own independent state and this is the best opportunity to take it and harness their human potential.

The elites there are benefitting from the Chaos in Palestine that's why they don't want it and you don't need anyone to tell you that the Arab world is tired of this Palestinian issue and want a closure.

The Arab world is faced with life without oil as its mainstay so they want a peaceful Arab world for the economy there to maximize it's full potential

The truth is that the American taxpayers are cool with this plan and they are looking forward to the Palestinians accepting it.

Boris Johnson has already keyed into the plan just like the leading Arab world leaders

Palestinians are Christians and muslims. Jews have reduced all Palestinians to an existence akin to prisoners in their own homeland. If jesus were to materialise today, he will certainly stand with palestinians against their oppressors.

Everything in that peace accord will only suit Israel and not Palestine.

People can be so daft and irredeemable violent.

They say a plan is underway, you didn't even wait for the plan to be unveiled and you started demostrations and even rejected the plan. Now the plan is unveiled, who expect something different.

That explains a lot of who they are in terms of violence.

The Trump Peace deal of the Century was a very good deal though I do not accept the part of the plan that cedes Any part of JERUSALEM to Palestine in any Guise..

JERUSALEM is Solely GOD ALMIGHTY House in Israel....

All these unnecessary contentions attracts GOD'S wrath..

If you notice, After the plan was Released , an Earth struck the Carribean and it was felt in President Trump Home place in Mago , Florida..

President Donald Trump has been Isreal best friend in Modern times, but ceding some part of Jerusalem to Palestine is not GOD'S Plan..

JERUSALEM is GOD'S Eternal city..

Having Said that, Everyone should live Prepared.. The Third temple will be built in that part ceded to Palestine.. The Rapture will happen before it is built..

Remember the Bible says , when they say peace, Sudden Destruction comes..

I hear the pope ( The false prophet of Revelation 13)is Having a Global peace pact with all leaders of Nation May 17, 2020....

The Truth of the Matter is that there will be no peace without The PRINCE of PEACE ( JESUS CHRIST). The Earth Today is Going Speedily against GOD . Looking for Peace is a Joke Nd mere words.

Peace will come but it will be After the Rapture and the Great Tribulation. All the saints who made Rapture and those who were able to make it out in Great Tribulation will Be Returning to Earth with JESUS CHRIST for the Millienium Reign. That's when this Earth will see Peace

Live Ready Folks..
Accept JESUS CHRIST And pray to be Made Worthy to Escape the Destruction coming on the Earth..
