And as for the argument, what you've to understand is that the government is made up of the elites, there are no proletariats in government or in power, it's usually the elites who run & control the government.

yh but one point I made was that when the jokers therapist got cut off from funding , it wasn't an act of not caring for the poor , it was an act of not taking mental illnesses seriously.

Is there a difference between the rich & the ruling class?
As for me, I'd say no, cause the ruling class is made up of the rich/the creme de la creme/the high class/the wealthy and not the proletarians.
Elites are a small group of powerful people who hold a disproportionate amount of wealth, privilege, political power, or skill in a society.
At the two bolded, wealth, translates to them being rich.
Have political power translates to their being in control (which could be direct or indirect) of the affairs of the government.

I would rather say it was an act of not giving a sh.it about anything that has to do with the poor. Not taking mental illnesses seriously appears under poor health care, & it was one of the many pointers that translates that the government wasn't working & doesn't care about the ruled, who are majorly proletarians.

Ask yourself, why you think the people revolted. There is a saying that "No be today yansh begin day day back". Their plan to revolt has been in their minds for a very long time, as a result of how bad the government has been treating them. Arthur was simply the much needed push they had been longing for.

The ruling class in the u.s and many other developed countries is made up of more of middle class people than wealthy.

Those ones don't make bastard money like Nigerian politicians.

And even if the ruling class in the u.s or in Gotham's case is made up of rich people , let's note that that doesn't make all rich people part of the ruling class.E.g Wizkid , Seun osewa , Mark Zuckerberg , Linda ikeji , though they are rich, they aren't part of the ruling class.

Again the masked clowns ought to have taken their anger out on the govt and not on the rich. Those masked clowns seemed to allude to present day ANTIFA in the u.s ( anti - capitalists )

When the govt wanted to remove fuel subsidy , we as Nigerians were angry with the govt and definitely not the rich people.

Even the poorest of Nigerians will not think of going to murder rich people just because of unemployment.

If people want to revolt, they ought to do so against the govt and not on rich people.

Rich people are not the govt and are not responsible for anybody's misfortune

Is it just me or do series involve less cliches and less repetitive story lines like movies ?
Off course na. A series is going to be long for sure and to keep your viewers cliches aren't the way forward, you have to throw in lots of suspense and thrills to take the viewers breath away. Movies are short and well they won't usually have as much suspense as series. And please who has any movie in the coming-of-age genre I love these type of movies but please no cliche bullshit. "like falling in love with my bully" or "getting the hottest guy/girl" crap I hate these two shits. Bring something hardcore and bleeped up.

Gotham as a case study, who makes up Gotham government? The rich, i never said all rich makes up the ruling class, i said the rich. There was really no evidence to support the notion that it was all the rich folks who were attacked. The movie definitely said nothing in that regard, but from the killing of the Prominent Tv presenter & Thomas Wayne, it's safe to infer that the targets were rich folks who were somehow connected to the affairs of government, & rich folks who control the factors of production, actual production and distribution of goods & services & other basis amenities.

Privatization, NEPA was sold to PHCN & within PHCN we have various distribution coys, owned by rich individuals, in a situation where a revolt ensues as a result of constant epileptic power supply, coupled with high billings, who do you think would suffer more, the government? Or the wealthy individuals who owns it?

Note, I don't support violence. And you using Nigeria is a very terrible example. In Nigeria we are more of talkers than doers, all we are good at is shouting & ranting online, while sitting at the comforts of our home, we'd rather suffer & die than come out and act.

If Nigeria were to be Gotham, people like Rochas, Dino et.al & wealthy business folks who control core production & distribution of basic social amenities(under privatization) & have failed to deliver, those are the folks who would be revolted against.

Did you know that Joker 2019 movie is based on New York of the 1980s.

In 1980s the city was almost bankrupt so they had to cut funding for a lot of things and that includes funding for mental health care.

In New York of that time unemployment was rife and the city was decaying.

But yet , the people who were suffering did not take it up against rich people simply because the the rich people weren't responsible for their lot in life

And again Thomas Wayne is not like rochas and Dino , Thomas Wayne's family built their wealth from the scratch hundreds of years ago.

Nothing suggests it was about killing rich people with ties to the govt as Murray the talk show host had practically nothing to do with the govt.

As am a lil bit chanced, let me drop this here.

I see your point quite alright. Your initial argument was that the poor/masses were wrong attacking the rich, instead they ought to have attacked the government who were the source of their woes, rather than the rich. While initially i myself was strongly of the opinion that it was mostly the rich who made up the government, thus justifying their stance. But now I'd try and justify the movement against the rich in general.
There is a clear difference between fighting back and turning to a life of crime. That movement was aimed at fighting back against all forms of oppression meted out to the poor by the rich.
You made mention of the following:
In 1980s the city was almost bankrupt so they had to cut funding for a lot of things and that includes funding for mental health care.
And
In New York of that time unemployment was rife and the city was decaying
.
As regards the movie, as if the two bolded of yours weren't enough, that period, marked a time of financial crisis, the economic policy as at then favored mostly the rich folks at the expense of the poor.
The rich were getting richer while the poor were getting poorer, thus, the rich treated the poor with disdain because of the class disparity between them. Arthur's attack by those rich kids & the presenter making fun of him was one out of many scenarios that justifies this.
For Christ's sake, These were human beings, driven mad by a society that has deemed them outcasts, as a result of class disparity. No individual deserves to be treated like sh.it just because they are different. No one deserves to be killed as a result of bullying, hate, etc. All these, literally pushed the poor past their breaking point, and by casting them out, the rich ultimately created a ferocious monster, who'd later hunt them all.

By Thomas Wayne having a connection to politics, he wanted to run for mayor isn't it? , well that's the connection to politics/government i meant. So you see, his mere declaration of this automatically makes him a target.
