Pres.@MBuhari has established a committee, to be Chaired by the Minister of Interior, to study & address updated U.S. requirements relating to the assessment of compliance with certain security criteria by foreign govts

The committee will work with the U.S Government, INTERPOL and other stakeholders to ensure all updates are properly implemented.

Nigeria remains committed to maintaining productive relations with the United States and other international allies especially on matters of global security.

Anyway all we have here is just guessing. I am sure in the coming week US Embassy will explain fully how it affects immigrant visa applications in Nigeria and possibly advise those who already have been issued interview dates which fall after commencement of the ban on next step to take . No need to panic unnecessarily

Speaker of US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi on Saturday February 1, slammed President Donald Trump over the addition of Nigeria and 5 other countries to US travel ban list.

Pelosi stated that Trump Administration’s expansion of the travel ban list is outrageous, threatens security, values and the rule of law in the North-American country.

In her statement, the House Speaker said they will be passing a “no ban act” against the immigrant visa ban to prohibit religious discrimination in America's immigration system, and also limit the President’s ability to impose such restrictions she described as "biased and bigoted".

Pelosi's statement read;

“The Trump Administration’s expansion of its outrageous, un-American travel ban threatens our security, our values and the rule of law. The sweeping rule, barring more than 350 million individuals from predominantly African nations from traveling to the United States, is discrimination disguised as policy.

“America’s strength has always been as a beacon of hope and opportunity for people around the world, whose dreams and aspirations have enriched our nation and made America more American. With this latest callous decision, the President has doubled down on his cruelty and further undermined our global leadership, our Constitution and our proud heritage as a nation of immigrants.

“In the Congress and in the Courts, House Democrats will continue to oppose the Administration’s dangerous anti-immigrant agenda. In the coming weeks, the House Judiciary Committee will mark-up and bring to the Floor the NO BAN Act to prohibit religious discrimination in our immigration system and limit the President’s ability to impose such biased and bigoted restrictions. We will never allow hatred or bigotry to define our nation or destroy our values.”

Friday’s proclamation will suspend immigrant visas for nationals of Nigeria, Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan and Tanzania. The restriction only applies to those seeking to live in the U.S. permanently rather than temporary residence. It will also restrict diversity visas for nationals of Sudan and Tanzania.

How on earth can spouse and immediate relative (IR) visa be refused when the number that can be issued every year is UNLIMITED ?

This is minor issue Nigerian government can handle if they are really serious

How long do you estimate before it is resolved ? Months? Years? How long did it take Chad?

It took Chad 7 months to be removed from the ban. Probably one year for Nigeria if Buhari does not go mad again and start forming superstar .

Hmm that's the thing basically. How long are we looking at before we are cleared
Also for those that have started the process and received their letter there is a time frame for you to process the immigration visa( so let's pray all in all it favours us)
The truth is that this news is quite unsettling
Will nvc still keep in touch with us about our stage update in our processing
For those that have their interview later on in the month after the ban is implemented what will be their fate
And the status of the ban was clearly stated for the pending applicants. So that's clarity in itself.
Contacting nvc is quite difficult. If not one will have put a call through to them tomorrow to know our stance. Especially for those that have started the process
Or better still contact your immigration lawyer for better clarity.
There is nothing much we can do but hope and pray the Congress overrides this ban

Most importantly for those that are oppurtuned to go to the embassy before the ban. I hope this won't give room for denying people the immigration visa.

Look at it it this way... They are not in any hurry to let in immigrants from Nigeria and those other countries mentioned. I am sure they will take their time and also sure the Nigerian govt will slack off on putting their house in order. Brace yourself, prepared for the best and expect the worst.

They have to fix it as soon as possible though or else we face more severe ban maybe even a total ban.

Re: At The NVC Processing Stage Of The U. S Family Based Preference Category. by richhills(m): 5:01pm On Feb 03, 2020
Denial rate for non immigrant visas will skyrocket too. It is all about lack of trust in the vetting system. Lack of intelligence sharing between our agencies, non compliance of our immigration in reporting of missing passports and problematic passports. And also non compliance to anti terrorism measures. Immigrants are said to be difficult to remove while the lucky few non immigrants can easily be removed.
Like amigo, I have waited for 13 years resumbitted a file and about to get DQ. Gbam ....ban happened.

Exactly.... The ban has exceptions. Our problem is that we don't read between lines. The ban doesn't concern some people. Please let's stop panicking OK. It is well already.

You can't file for someone if you are not legal. You need to be a citizen to file for your child or sibling. Are you sure you are not getting things mixed up? Anyway, you better get busy with other stuff cos you have a long way to go.
