Let me give you an insight into Ontario licensing...

Everyone must take the knowledge base test which give you a G1 license.

If you dont have an original Nigeria driver's license, you have to go to their driving school/wait for a year before you can take the G2 road test.

If you have an original nigeria driver's license which is less than 2 years old + frsc driving reference letter => you are eligible to do the G2 road test only immediately, then after a year you can do the G road test.

If you have an original nigeria driver's license which is over 2 years old + frsc driving reference letter => you are eligible to do the G road test immediately (only 1 attempt), if you fail, you go back to start from G2 road test, then after a year you can do the G road test again.

Some people like myself decided to do the G2 road test first, after passing before doing the G road test because like I said it's only 1 attempt you have.

What was your wait time between the G2 and G?

I wonder why it is convenient for people to just write what they dont know about. I live in quebec and thank God I am "struggling". I won't argue much but it is better to experience than to draw conclusions from the experience of a few people. Yes Nigerians are leaving Quebec in droves to Ontario or elsewhere because of the language barrier. I was the only English speaking guy where I was employed I took it with open arms and learnt my French on the go. Now I speak fluent french and now I have the whole of Canada right in my hands. Applied and Got another job with Air Canada. French speaking was the edge I had. I moved to Manitoba as that is where I am stationed. Depending on what you want, u can make ur decision. My kids also speak better French than me. I did not limit myself or my kids in a country where we plan to live for God knows how long. Please if because of the experience of few people u are drawing conclusions be careful. As a rule if I have not experienced anything I dont comment, you can't be living in Lagos and be saying the way El Rufai is ruling Kaduna is bad. You know nothing.

How long did it take you to break the fluency barrier?

There was no wait time for me. Like I said, I did not want to waste my 1 shot opportunity, so I did G2 first to know how they grade the road test/ how nice the drivetest personnel are. Then I did the G afterwards..did both in a space of 2 weeks.

Mind you, G road test is not so easy...

Bonjour...

I actually don't think you said anything contrary to the submission made by the person you quoted. He posited that without the knowledge of French language, one would have some settlement problems and you only went ahead to confirm this. You confirmed Nigerians are leaving Quebec cause of language barrier. You also confirmed you were the only English speaking person in your unit and had to learn French on the go. Though you eneded up a greater version of you, having to learn a new language to fit in could be somewhat stressful for a lot of people, you know. I've also noticed that a lot of job ads from Quebec usually had that clause "French language is mandatory..." and that could have been the poster's source of information. One doesn't have to live in Canada to know Canada is cold. Lol

Moving on, I speak French. Any tips for maximising the benefits of this in Canada? Should I write exams?

How do you register for Ontario Health Card BEFORE you get accommodation?

I've been refused registration at Service Ontario cuz I don't have a document to show "proof of residency in Ontario".

Currently staying at AirBnB.

Urgent Pls!!!

You simply affirmed what the other guy you quote stated. Or is there any message you are trying to pass?. . The statement you made in quote "I won't argue much but it is better to experience than to draw conclusions from the experience of a few people" somewhat validates your personal experience as unreliable.

Morning seniors.

Got PPR and should be coming with my family by summer. Stuck between choosing Alberta and Ontario. I heard rents are cheaper in Alberta, the minimum wage is higher than ontario and they pay less taxes. However, I am concerned about job opportunities. Studied law and i don't know if there are readily available paralegal jobs in Alberta that i can do while i take steps to getting enrolled to their Bar. Wifey studied Economics, and is looking at Admin Roles whiles she gets additional qualifications.

So what do you advise? Ontario or Alberta?

@ oyukuwife

I hope someone would be able to give you a direct advice, because my response does not advice a particular stand. My opinion points to the fact that you would still have to indicate you have applied for a visa before (whether a successful or unsuccessful attempt). While creating Express Entry profile, this question would be asked and it is most advisable to state things as they really are.

I do hope much more experience folks, advice you ASAP. However, I believe that the fact that you had your study visa application denied, does not affect your express entry/PR application in any way, negatively.

All the best.

I apologize in advance for saying this. But that was rude. Re-read the OP's post and re-read your answer.

We should desist from "catching cruise" on people who genuinely want answers. Let's be respectful.

Again, apologies, I hope you don't get offended.

In Alberta you're allowed to attempt the advanced road test as many times as you like. It costs twice as much as the basic road test. So the more you fail and retake, the more money they make.

What address did you give for your PR card?
Do you have a bank account? What address did you use? If they've issued you a debit/visa card in an addressed envelope, you can take that to service ontario and show them. That's what I used, and it was a temporary residence. I updated my details when I moved. You can also ask the bank to mail your statement to your address via Post, then use that as evidence of residence.
