@simydan..Kudos for this impressive thread..

I am currently in a desperate bid to have this set up, and I am willing to make the jump to Solar as well..

I have a few enquiries concerning cost of the LiFePo4, cost of your setup and some technical info..

I went to Alibaba and i saw quite a fair good deals on Lithium like the link below..

https://m.made-in-china.com/product/24V-200ah-32650-LiFePO4-Lithium-Ion-Battery-Price-877417665.html

My lil queries are:

1) Can we trust these merchants to deliver a good product and can your link offer us a cheaper and viable alternative grin

2) Does the absence of BMS incorporated into the system place us at an disadvantage?

3) Does your setup have the BMS? If no? What processes are you deploying to manage your battery charging demands.

4) What is the total cost of your project..?.

5) Can an area with a paltry 3 hours power supply per day match your energy performance, assuming the solar option isn't functional..

Abeg... No mind my plenty questions oo... Consider me a friend in neeeeeeeed.

1. Whether you'll get a good product from the merchant, I'll say yes because I've had quite a number of experience dealing with the Chinese merchant and one rule of thumb is, I don't like to compromise price and that has in a large extent work for me.
Getting a good and a favourable deal? I can guarantee you that you'll get the best deal you can ever imagined.

2. Running a lithium ion battery without BMS is very risky and highly dangerous. It is not advisable and considered a bad practice thereby, setting you at a great disadvantage.

3. My Battery pack is a factory build and has a BMS in it. Even, the charger I'm using is recommended and sent with the battery.
Lifepo4 is quite expensive so proper care should be taken to care for it especially with charging.
Mine currently charge at 14.6v 20a CC/CV

4. currently the cost of my project is estimated about 230k that's for 12v 100ah Lifepo4 battery, 600w pure sine wave inverter, 14.6v 20a Lifepo4 charger and ATS.

5. Lifepo4 is customised according to the use and application. The advantage of having you battery pack built from the factory is that they build to your requirements.
Yes a pack can be built with a BMS that can take larger current to charge the battery.
E.G:
A 12v 100ah battery pack built to to withstand 35amps constant charging current can achieve under 3hrs full charge
35×3=105a
So also, a 200ah pack built to charge at 70a constant current can achieve under 3hrs full charge.
70×3=210a

Mine its build to charge at 14.6v 20a so I get full charge in 5hrs.
Not that it can charge at higher current but it will reduce the cycle life.

Hope I didn't bored you with too much talk sha?

Wow... This is such an amazing response... cool cool... Bored ke! grin...

I will be contacting you the when I am ready to set up... No point for testing new grounds when we have people like who have tested the waters before us... grin

Thanks a lot... smiley

Hello house! cheesy cheesy cheesy

It's been quiet here, hope we still have the Lifepo4 spirit grin

My setup still doing very fantastic as I draw close to the second month of installation... So far the load during the day has been between 55w to 80w for 7hrs to 10hrs and system is been very healthy keeping battery at within 30% - 50% DOD.

Battery working voltage is at 13.1V and down to 12.6V on 77w load for 7hrs to 10hrs on days when PHCN decide to be wicked...

Currently planning to run a full load test of 200w and see how long it will hold...

Welcome on board!

The project has been a success and still under testing and review...
So it's going to be a long one and hoping I'll be having others replicating the system and posting their own experience here soon.

Hope you'll join the family too?

Ok, a brief load test of television, decoder, fan, home theatre and refrigerator was done with load wattage total about 200watts.

Observation:
Battery voltage at start of test was 13.1V and when all load was powered on the system, battery voltage dropped to 12.8V.

Test started at 3:05pm system run till 5:30pm when grid power was restored and system switched.
System worked for 2hrs 25mins and battery voltage was at 12.7V. Voltage went back to 13.0V after load transfer.

Still will run this test again and see how long it can last on it's own.

At this point I can say with a 600w solar panel system can go for 24hrs un interrupted. Just want to satisfy my curiosity with a full load test, to at least tell how much the system can withstand then I can draw a logical conclusion on Lifepo4.

For now all is well and I'm enjoying value for my money...

Nice one there. LifePo4 batteries are the deal. I run a DIY 18650 Li-ion battery system, no BMS but doing good.

Nice to have you here! How do you balance the cell voltage? I think you will have a better build with BMS.

Do you intend to build and sell?

I love to call it Pack, as it is made up of several cells in parallel. All cells were well processed and each pack have very close voltages.

With the BMS, yes I know. I already installed and enjoying my battery before my BMS arrived and I'm feeling lazy to install it. Since my packs are already doing well without it.

To build and sell? Yes I intend to but would be so difficult to.

Please install your BMS! lithium fire is real, I build and sell Lithium Batteries, I also make my own BMS which has adjustable upper and lower voltages per cell. Pls take the BMS seriously. secondly do not trust any BMS that has no dashboard, you need to see your system status every once in a while.

@Icraft and ewizard1

Very good work you have. Just as you've mentioned lithium ion can catch fire if not properly built and monitor... But I'll advice to start building LFP(Lifepo4) cells with good packaging and quality BMS.

They are much safer and don't catch fire like their counterparts.

Thanks. That's a huge investment in processing you have there.

I have a Daly BMS. Planning to get a Balancer instead. What type of BMS do you use?

Daly is a very good brand amongst the BMS manufacturers, in fact my battery pack is built with it.

Collecting of cells! Not necessary if you consider it a business and you want to build reputation in it you need to important new cells and other tools to enable you build quality packs.

in my house, I use Batrium BMS with 14 longmons, In my office I use a diy bms that I assembled. it has separate sensor boards for each cell or pack and a central wifi control module. its very user friendly. it can shut down charging, discharging or both based on over voltage, under voltage, over current or temperature. all parameters are user adjustable from android or iphone

Finally! I was able to run a full load test on my setup after over two months of installation.

These are the load again:

1. 32" TV=67W
2. Home theatre=65W
3. Refrigerator=100W
4. Decoder= 18W
5. Fan=20W

Total load: 67+65+100+18+20=270W

Setup: 12V 100AH Lifepo4 battery ~ 1200W
600W 12V Inverter.

OK! Test started at exactly 12:00PM
Battery voltage was 13.1V before putting on the load. Battery voltage dropped to 12.9V as soon as all load came up.

All loads run from 12:00PM to 5:00PM and battery voltage was 12.5V. At exactly 5:00PM I removed the Refrigerator and the Home Theatre, now left with TV Decoder and Fan still running.
The system was run without refrigerator and sound system from 5PM to 8PM when I finally shot down the system at shot down battery voltage was 11.1V.

System worked for a total of 8hours with 5hours of full load and another 3hours of regular load.

At this point, I don't need a pro or a guru to say it is a standard backup before I believe.
It is actually, and indeed a standard backup as was the intention for this thread... grin grin grin

With a good solar setup attached to this, system can go with full load during the day and hold up well with minimal load at sundown till the next sunshine with battery within 50% DOD or less.

An ideal solar setup for this system would be nothing less than a quality 600W solar panels and a good mppt CC of 30A or 40A.

For my solar setup I already have a smart 30A mppt CC on standby...

Yes, it's a plastic blade but blows very well and does not blow hot no matter the weather. But does not have regular just a switch on/off.

Ok Bro

Did you connect the fan directly to the battery terminal or you connected it through the socket from the inverter?

It's an AC(220V) fan not DC. Though I have the DC version that is hook up to a 20w pane, CC and 12V 18ah battery
