Good morning everyone on this forum. Been reading most of the topics concerning visiting visas, student visas etc to the UK and I must say most of the submissions have been an eye opener and a great learning experience. As a 37 yrs old university drop out and someone who has basically been living life hustling on the streets now trying to get back on the right path, earn a skill set, and become a professional in my own capacity, does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting into a vocational school in the UK to learn a skill? Is it even a possibility as most of the vocational institutions I've been browsing seem to only accept applications from people who are residents of the UK & EEA.. I would appreciate If anyone any body who has some knowledge about this can offer me some advise on ways to go about it as I'm basically just looking to restart my academic life with a 2yr course/training before deciding to proceed to maybe a proper degree if the brain is still capable cause it's been a long time I've been out of study. I hope you get my point. Thank you in advance to anyone graceful enough to reply me.

Hello Dammo,
Congratulations on taking the first step to a great path. This is a beautiful post and I’m happy for you.
Now to answer your question based on my research and experiences from friends. It’s better to do a degree course than vocational course in UK especially as an international students as the former has more pecks than the latter .
Now because of your age, you can do Accelerated Undergraduate courses which is normally 2 years. It’s same course content and syllabus as a 3 or 4 years course but different duration. Based on your 5 credits in O’level and experience field, you can choose a career course with lots of potential.
Browse through schools that offer 2 years undergraduate degree. I know a couple of them if you are interested. After getting the admission, prepare thoroughly for credibility test for your visa.
At almost the end of your undergraduate course, it’s possible and easier to apply for your postgraduate course while still in School especially if you want to apply to same school.
The school’s immigration dep will put you through on how to apply for your visa for the masters course without having to leave UK.
It might be an extended visa depending on the duration of the masters or you can just make a new application.
Anyways, you can cross that bridge when you get there.

The above advise is based on assumption that there is enough fund to sort out your first year tuition in addition to living expenses which isn’t small amount of money.

I hope I have been able to help in my little way.

I thought UK schools accepted credit in English in WAEC for proof of English Language proficiency. I have been admitted before for Masters in several UK universities with my C5 in WAEC English, unfortunately I couldn't go because of funding. I was surprised to be rejected by University of Greenwich for PhD asking I provide IELTS.

Pls does this IELTS requirement apply to all schools in UK for research degrees?

It is marketing strategy. Yes your visa will be extended to cover placement opportunity.

However, placement is not guaranteed. You will look it for yourself. You are on your own. No one will help you look for placement.

If paradeventure you dont get placement, your visa will be curtailed i.e duration in your visa will be reduced. Your school will tell UKVI.

@dammodee911. This is another angle too and my previous advise is another angle.
You must have enough money. No time to hustle. Because there will be no lengthy break in the 2 year program

You can get direct admission to year 1 if you have valuable experience in your prospective field and further improved that you are a mature student:

See some accelerated degrees here:

My advise is dont do Masters in Project Management. Do APM certification.

You can do your regular engineering degree and APM certification (Project Management Qualification) during the course of your study.

You get two employment opportunities, as an engineer and also as a Project Coordinator/Manager.

APM open examination is about 400 pounds for non members and about 300 pounds for members
https://www.apm.org.uk/qualifications-and-training/qualifications-find-out-more/open-exams/

Dont want you to waste your time doing MSc Project Management.

Show them this link:
https://www.gre.ac.uk/international/greenwich-in-my-country?co=NG.

It was indicated clearly that they accept WAEC C6 for postgraduate studies. Also, tell them you will send WAEC PIN
if they want to confirm your WAEC.

Also, where did you do your Masters? If you studied in an English speaking country like UK, USA, Australia, Canada e.t.c, they should waive itt.

Stand your ground and give them proof. It seems those UK guys indirectly get money from IELTS as commission.

Thank you, I did my masters in Nigeria. I already tried convincing them, I attached a letter from my school certifying I was taught in English for both my bachelors and master's degree, and also attached my WAEC certificate showing I had C5 in English. But the Research office insists I do not meet their English Language requirements, I'm thinking English Language requirements may be different for taught and research programs. I will try other schools.

Do you have any other supervisor? PhD admission is hard as it depends on availability and workload of proposed supervisor. It does not depend on the school.

Is the supervisor knowledgable in the research area and has he been supportive via email. Does he really want you to study and has he provided guidance. Do you know his past experrience? If the supervisor is good and want to supervise you, just do the IELTS but that is if your funding is sure.

Supervisors determine if you will have PhD or not. So dont choose a bad and non-supportive supervisor who will not help you.

Do your research.

You want to move a PhD studies from one school to scout other schools because of IELTS?

Out of curiosity:
What is your proposed PhD in, please?
I might be able to make more informed comments.

This is totally uncalled for.

All you needed to say was ask your question.

And I see no entitlement mentality in his post. He asked for assistance and he asked nicely.

If you don’t want to assist, you can ignore. The platform is for everybody; this is plain rude and unnecessary.

Thank you and God bless you immensely for this reply.

Hey guys,

Please help.

My brother has a Bsc in Psychology and was planning to do an Msc Nursing in Hertfordshire, UK.

The school rep says it's possible but some friends who studied there says it's not possible since he doesn't have a background in Nursing.

Please house advice.

Iyke:
‘Sponsor’ in this context means whose account the evidence of funds is.
Siblings can transfer ALL the required funds into applicant’s account.
Done!

Rather than ask for more light to be thrown, a smart prospective student would immediately google mental health nursing UK.
Then return with more specific questions.
