Sanwo-Olu On Okada, Keke Ban In Lagos: No Going Back On by ikorodureporta: 7:14am On Feb 05, 2020
Amid protests over the state government ban on Okada and tricycles popularly called Keke Marwa in some parts of the state, Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, vowed that his government would not reverse its decision for safety reasons.

The governor gave the vow while speaking at the formal launch of LAGFERRY operations, mobile app and commissioning of 14 commercial boats at Badore Ferry Terminal, Ajah.

Sanwo-Olu, while justifying the ban, said that as a responsible government, his administration would not fold its arms and allow security breach in the state.

“Let me tell you about the ban which we just enforced. We will sustain the ban on Okadas and tricycles, mainly because of security and safety reasons. Security and safety of citizens is paramount to any government. As a responsible government, we will not fold our arms and allow any security breach in the state.

“We will continue to ensure the safety of our people on all fronts. There have been reports of serious security breaches and safety concerns in areas where these operators ply. We had to respond to these concerns because life and safety matter to this government,” he said

The governor assured that the number of ferry boats would be increased to 30 before the end of the year, disclosing that more than 500 buses would be injected into the state bus transport system to ease transportation problems.

The boats have the capacity to ferry 40 to 60 passengers at a go and will commute passengers from Ikorodu, Ebute Ero, CMS, Badore, and Ikoyi amongst other routes.
Sanwo-Olu said the launch was in fulfilment of his administration’s promise to provide an effective and integrated intermodal transportation system.

The governor pointed out that water transportation was one of the intermodal transportation tripods the state government was committed to developing as a strategy to reduce congestion on its roads which accounts for over 90 per cent of commuting in the state.

This is a case of the rich oppressing the poor.
Most people supporting this are car owners.
Imagine someone from Ikorodu, after leaving by 5am, u now get to those places & start trekking again....na afternoon you go reach work be that..
Tfare hike all over, even foodstuffs prices don increase too for market. Something that we've not experienced for a while

GOOD!!!!!!

We need to put Lagos state in good shape.
The people are even worse than the government sometimes. People just do things anyhow.
Build houses anyhow. Throws trash on the streets and gutters anyhow.

Lagos state needs to demolish many structures.
Our street roads are too narrow.
Our highways too are too narrow.
There should be AT LEAST 4-4 LANES on our highways...
People build houses anyhow without sense.
Imagine a greedy landlord building six 3-bedroom flats on half plot of land WITHOUT A SINGLE PARKING SPACE FOR VEHICLES AND THE FOOLISH GOVERNMENTS won't even do anything about it.
They will latter be parking on the roads and be constituting nuisance.

We need to seriously organize and DEPOPULATE LAGOS.
IF you are not okay with the arrangements, GO BACK TO YOUR STATE.
Go and question your useless governors what they use states allocations to do.

Palliatives measures like the buses provided yesterday is all we ask for,
Just give over 21 million Lagosians more buses for their daily movement and they will be fine.

We Rise!

God bless Lagos state.
God bless Nigeria.

Not just safety and security, also severe traffic snarl in Lagos metropolis. But, Mr. Governor, please identify genuine Lagosian okada and Keke operators affected by the ban and rehabilitate them or offer palliatives. None indigenes should go to their respective zones or another business area. I support the ban. Only that it was without countermeasures.
