Use of islamic fundamentalism as a tool started during CIA led ops against Soviets in Afghanistan , later it was put into use in Bosnia even more successfully and then rest is history.

Many of you might not know that other than the western countries, some countries in Africa and Asia were pouring billions of dollars into Bosnian conflict in support of the Islamists, Not the moderates mind you but the radicals.

I keep wondering the same thing. Why would the West be so comfortable supporting Jihadist against the Syrian government? It makes no sense, especially when taking into account the so called "war on terror".

If you can't stand the Syrian government, why don't you just back off entirely. 9 years the war in Syria. Idlib has to fall so sanity can be brought back to Syria. As you can imagine, Northern Nigeria is also in the front lines. Erdogan shipping terrorists to Libya, who would then transfer arms to terrorists operating in Nigeria.

A tool is never thrown away , even though if it is expendable or if it is a liability. One tries to contain it or at best keep it under control , to release (use) the same at the time or place of one's choosing.

Totally Hypothetical example to give an idea

There are many smugglers working between country X and Y bringing in weapons etc

X intelligence will not eliminate all smugglers

They will try to cultivate some of the smugglers and in exchange let them bring in some contrabands as long as it does not help terrorists. Robbers bandits ok .

Why ?

Intelligence use the same smugglers for their own use against country Y.

And country Y will do the same.


One reason why top drug producers and smugglers remain relevant and get protection in many nations.

Most of the dirty works of intelligence agencies are done through criminals
