Thousands of women took to the streets blocking major roads to protest the judgement insisting that no handover of power would be conducted in the state without Lyon.

The protests rocked different parts of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, following the Supreme Court’s judgement that stopped the inauguration of Chief David Lyon as the governor of the state.

Riots commenced in the state on Thursday night after the judgement as youths blocked popular roads in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The youths, who sang in solidarity displaying the flags of the All Progressives Congress (APC), refused to vacate the roads leaving motorists and commuters stranded.

One of the commuters, who spoke in confidence, said she ran into the obstacle created by the rioters describing her experience as terrible.

She said: “It was a terrible experience when I ran into them. They refused to vacate the major road. There was no vehicular movement of any sort. People were forced to return to their homes”.

It was learnt that the protesters made bonfires to cover the dual carriageways as they remained there till after midnight.

On Friday morning, the palpable tension that enveloped the capital city forced many people to remain indoors.

Many stranded as APC supporters set bonfire on Kiama Bridge

Hundreds of travellers including police and military personnel are currently stranded at the Kiama Bridge end of the East-West Road.

The protesters with the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC numbering over a hundred, are protesting the ruling of the Supreme Court nullifying the election of David Lyon as the governor-elect of the state.
.
At about 10:20a.m when Vanguard visited the scene of the protest, vehicular movement on either side of the road had been grounded while a long stretch of traffic gridlock had emerged on both sides of the East-West road.

The protesters most of whom are youths, said they are ready for any showdown with security operatives who were seen helplessly staring at the protesters.

Their anger is justified and understandable considering that Lyon was the one they voted massively for until the Supreme Court made its pronouncement. They will just have to adjust and accept the new reality and move on. undecided

The kind of injustice and biased judgement being set in this administration is very bad. I dont understand, is it that inec is incapable? Or the votes don't count in the ballot but rather in the court?
This country anyigo, why is his deputy not disqualified? But the governor too taking the hammer? Obviously, partisanship aside, Lyon was the choice of the people.
What happened in both Imo and bayelsa is unacceptable.

I'm wondering how Jonathan and his wife will be feeling right now after romancing David Lyon when he won.

At this point Nigerians need to wake up to their responsibilities. We will not allow few people to dictate our fate again. How can people wishes upturned because of one person's mistake.

It's quite unfortunate. The Law is law. This will teach these politicians sense. They should accept the situation and move on. This one is caused by the party, APC and not Supreme Court. They ignored very important pre-election processes and that caused them this nonsense.

But wait, the culprit who forged the result should be behind bar by now. Foolish man. Even if you want to change your name 100 times, just go to Magistrate Court and swear affidavit which may not cost up to 5k. Nonsense!!!! He should be stoned sef. Mitcheew

They should go to that lyon's deputy house to protest. That how he would have forged contracts in the state.
Misplaced priorities.

Exercise in futility. Just like all the protests by PDP supporters in Imo state has achieved nothing and it will achieve absolutely nothing.

They should rather go and protest at the residence of the Deputy Governor-elect to protest against his wrong doing and then proceed to the nearest police station and call for his arrest for certificate forgery.

I only pity David Lyon. Bad company do corrupt indeed.

Let Bayelsans do their worst, nothing will change the judgement. It is final. Get that into your head.
