Nigeria will not have peace until justice Mary Odili is retired from the supreme court, how can a wife of a heavy party chieftain be delivering judgement over a party she has once acted as first lady for 8 years with other parties, this is complete error
U people are just too sentimental!
Instead of blaming his deputy for forging a certificate and oshiomhole for failing to do proper screening, u are blamining Mary Odili. So is okay for people to forge results as long as they are APC? Do u know forgery is serious offence?? If the deputy didn't forge certificate do u think Mary Odili can sack Lyon? Address the root cause & stop blaming the wrong person. You should be blaming his deputy & Oshiomhole.

I don't quite understand the full basis of the Supreme court ruling here, same way I remain befuddled with what they did with that of Imo state...

The deputy contestant forged certificates or documents, why disqualify the main person who clearly won the election??! Why not allow the party remove the idiot, and replace him with someone else... When the winner of Kogi elections died that year prior to swearing in, why didn't they give it to the 2nd runner up??!...

Someone needs to explain these skewered and weird electoral laws of this 3rd world nation...

Lyon & his deputy run a joint ticket
Any wrong happening to one will affect the other
Go read on joint ticket running
Blame APC for not doing proper screening & fielding such candidates. The court is there to checkmate whether things are done properly, if not for this, I believe many people didn't know his deputy forged certificates, including myself.

As in ehh. Mary Odili may enter trouble with this kind of judgement.
which trouble if I may ask. Let be plain to ourselves in this country if we want to move forward. Remember both governor and deputy campaigned together, so they both had the votes. The problem should be, that why committee don't do their screening very well. Because of money abi? Oshiomole need to fire some people or he should apologize and resign because this is a mess.

Thousands of women took to the streets blocking major roads to protest the judgement insisting that no handover of power would be conducted in the state without Lyon.

The protests rocked different parts of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, following the Supreme Court’s judgement that stopped the inauguration of Chief David Lyon as the governor of the state.

Riots commenced in the state on Thursday night after the judgement as youths blocked popular roads in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The youths, who sang in solidarity displaying the flags of the All Progressives Congress (APC), refused to vacate the roads leaving motorists and commuters stranded.

One of the commuters, who spoke in confidence, said she ran into the obstacle created by the rioters describing her experience as terrible.

She said: “It was a terrible experience when I ran into them. They refused to vacate the major road. There was no vehicular movement of any sort. People were forced to return to their homes”.

It was learnt that the protesters made bonfires to cover the dual carriageways as they remained there till after midnight.

On Friday morning, the palpable tension that enveloped the capital city forced many people to remain indoors.

Many stranded as APC supporters set bonfire on Kiama Bridge

Hundreds of travellers including police and military personnel are currently stranded at the Kiama Bridge end of the East-West Road.

The protesters with the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC numbering over a hundred, are protesting the ruling of the Supreme Court nullifying the election of David Lyon as the governor-elect of the state.
.
At about 10:20a.m when Vanguard visited the scene of the protest, vehicular movement on either side of the road had been grounded while a long stretch of traffic gridlock had emerged on both sides of the East-West road.

The protesters most of whom are youths, said they are ready for any showdown with security operatives who were seen helplessly staring at the protesters.

The protest is a waste of effort on a routine that David Lyon would have done so easily which is carrying out on the spot check of documents.

DAVID LYON MESSED UP TERRIBLY!

He was not intelligent to know that his opponent will dig into the profile of his deputy governor aspirant.

Before the time leading to the governorship election in Bayelsa state.

He failed to carry out professional verification on the credentials of his Deputy Governor Aspirant.

DID ANYBODY TOLD HIM THAT HIS DEPUTY GOVERNOR ASPIRANT would carry his cross all alone?

Did anybody told David Lyon that his deputy was a saint from planet mars?

THEY WERE ON JOINT TICKET.

THE SINS OF ONE AFFECT THE OTHER.

DAVID LYON MESSED UP SHIT !

He should learn some bitter lessons and go and prepare very well with a good deputy with unquestionable qualification.

WHAT FORBIDS DAVID LYON FROM CHOOSING A WOMAN AS A DEPUTY.

There are many qualified women in Bayelsa state working as univesity lecturers, school principals etc

He should have chosen one of them.

WOMEN DEPUTY PERFORMED VERY WELL IN ENUGU STATE, RIVERS STATE, LAGOS STATE, EKITI STATE ETC

DAVID LYON SHOULD GO AND TAKE SOME CHILLED PILLS AND THEN PLAN FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS.

David Lyon educational deficiency is also worrying him to the extent that he was not conscious enough to know that he should carry out personal evaluation, authentication of all the certificates of his deputy and himself before filing to contest election with INEC.

IT IS VERY RISKY TO UNDERVALUE SITUATION.

IT IS VERY RISKY TO UNDERESTIMATE THE UNEXPECTED.

This is a lessons not David Lyon alone or any politicians in Nigeria.

It is a lesson to all of us in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.

NO SHORT CUT !

NO CUTTING CORNERS !

YOU DO NOT F. UCK WITH NIGERIAN JUDGES THIS DAYS ESPECIALLY WITH THE COMING OF THE BUHARI ERA.

OSHIOMOLE THAT IS BEATING HIS CHEST AGAINST GOVERNOR OBASEKI IS NOW KNOWING THAT IT IS NOT EASY TO DETHRONE AN ELECTED GOVERNOR THAT KNOWS HIS ONIONS.

Nigerian politicians respect TECHNICALITIES IN LAW.

BE PREPARED TO LEARN ABOUT ALL ASPECTS OF TECHNICALITIES EVEN IF IT MEANS HIRING A SEASONED LAWYER AS A PERSONAL ADVISER.

It has come to stay as far as Nigerian politics is concerned.

Be prepared for it with your LEGIT PAPERS or DOCUMENT.

It will probably come one way or the others and be prepared to defend yourself with the professional skills that is required.

Do not F.uck with Nigerian judges these days !

TECHNICALITIES DESTROYED the gentleman governor Bayelsa state never had DAVID LYON !

He actually submitted Affidavit of change of name to INEC, but court didn't count on that

Lower courts earlier decision

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja had, on November 12 2019, disqualified the APC governor-elect on the grounds that his deputy provided false information to INEC.
Mr Ekwo held that there was no connection between the name on the candidate’s school-leaving certificate, first degree (BA), master’s degree and the affidavits he swore.
However, the court of appeal set aside the decision of the trial court and affirmed the election of the APC candidates.
The three-member panel of the appellate court led by Justice Stephen Adah said that the PDP did not prove their case against the APC candidates.
The court held that Mr Degi-Eremienyo submitted an affidavit which showed evidence of his change of name from Adeyi-Eremienyo to Degi-Eremienyo.
“I agree with the appellant that the owner of the school leaving certificate and the GCE certificate are one and the same and I, therefore, set aside the judgment of the court below,” Mr Adah said.
Dissatisfied with the decision of the court of appeal, Mr Diri and his party filed an appeal at the apex court.
In its judgment on Thursday, the apex court set aside the judgment of the court of appeal and affirmed the decision which nullified Mr Degi-Eremienyo’s candidacy.
