It is still wrong! No sane nation does that.
Where you have excellent services you dont really need multiple sim cards, but here with our on-and-off signal situation, you have to be on multiple networks to stay connected always. What's wrong in one place may be a necessity in another.

Then the Telecoms companies are to blame.

If you come into the country and after being away for so long, you need a new SIM, the company should reissue the same SIM to you and not provide you another.
Are we not saying the same thing? The reason why i for example will have an mtn, 9mobile, glo and airtel lines is not because i love to carry phones but because of various degrees of inadequacies of these providers, one is trying to adjust. Some places u will be and you can't browse with glo or other place you can't call from your mtn, even phone manufacturers started making phones with multiple sim slots because of africa's mobile network problems. So instead of rushing to the media to complain how one man registered 57 lines why not work from your end to see that these providers improve their services to international best practices and watch that owner discard the multiple lines, that is if he genuinely didn't have a need for them. Cos for all i care, logically speaking, a criminal will not register 57 lines to his/her name and use same for illegal activities and there is no law that limits the number of lines one can buy.

CHISOS! shocked sad shocked

This is how it is done in saner climes.
Over there, 95% of their population keep one phone to their names.
It is very very unlikely that you see an individual with 2 phones, not to talk about 3 PHONES!

Slow and steady we will get to a New and better Nigeria that we voted for.

This is a very good step in the right direction.

God bless Nigeria.
Over there, there is constant power supply to charge the one phone u r talking about. But here in Nigeria, wer do you see light to charge phone? So there is need to keep multiple sims n phones to be on a safer side.So copy de supply of constant power first from them before u try to copy nonsense n irrelevant things.

If you check well, that person must be a criminal... It doesn't make sense for anyone to have 57 sim cards.

Sim registration is also part of the database architecture, stop being ignorant.
in a normal nigerian society he might be a criminal. but there is nothing wrong with that logically and legally

The fact remains, Alhaji can register a SIM in the name of Ahmed the Sugarcane seller and keep paying Ahmed 1k for each registration.

Unbeknownst to Ahmed, Alhaji runs a kidnapping network and so Ahmed is part of a criminal organisation by way of negligence or ignorance.

The NCC has decided to be helpful to the populace by insisting a customer can only be limited to 3 SIM cards and I'm sure this is a useful policy.

The Nigerian state has become so irritating that every policy is first opposed without reason, despite that this policies are oftentimes introduced to protect the very same Nigerians.

Nigerian Institutions and big big complicated nonsense!

Soon the mobile networks will ask us to come and queue to update our sim reg with our NIN or BVN.

The amount of data collected by individual organizations is alarming. FRSC, Banks, mobile networks, Passport office, NIMC, VIO, JAMB. Simply harmonize the database and you can cross reference. By now, a simple thumb print scan in any agency of the government should be able to draw out all the information about you but that is too much work

Truely, these guys are clueless and always pursuing the sysmptons instead of the disease.
The reccurring request for personal data of citizens by Nigerian institutions is unreasonable and reveals how clueless the Managers are.
In all these requests like Driver's license, BVN, NIN, Passport Issuance, SIM Card Registration, etc you are compelled to drop your fingerprints. We all know that fingerprints are unique. Why can't they link their databases and therein create a unique database and stop inconveniencing citizens. Little wonder the US took their recent action.
I have not been to any other country with such multiplicity. It is really irritating. If someone has a 1000 SIMs it should not be a problem as long as it is traceable to him. In a lot of countries you can get off the plane, buy a local SIM and make a call. The call or calls you made makes you easily traceable as if needed all the security agencies need to do is the contact the prople you called and get info on you. Our agencies should sit up and quit pretending to be working.

Talking about linking sims to national ID. I registered for national ID since 2015, and till date I am yet to receive my permanent ID. I am still using the laminated one. I have reprinted it like 3 times at 1000 naira every time.

This guy's are just not serious. Let them just be wasting our money.

Your permanent plastic ID, as useful as it may sound to you is not as important as actually registering and having a number associated with you.

You can lose the plastic but your registration is hardly ever lost.

Always a sycophant, people use multiple phones and Sims in those "saner climes", it's what drove the popularity of dual SIM phones, or did you think that OEMs started manufacturing dual SIM phones because of Nigeria?

If you are truly a patriot as you always claim, you will speak the truth always, defending a government even when they are wrong, making mistakes and going astray is not patriotism it's treachery.

In many countries, you can do that but also, countries like South Africa, you would have your identity taken before you get a SIM.

Most western countries in which you can buy a SIM over the shelf have so much technological prowess to track the SIM card user that it becomes meaningless to operate a criminal organisation with the SIM as your shield of anonymity.

Nigeria doesn't have such means and the better Nigerians accept and get onboard with policies or continue to live in a dream world whilst kidnappers continue to have a field day.

Now you are saying an entirely different thing sir. The man said an individual registered 57 different lines to his name. In your example, alhaji registered the sim not in his name but in another ignorant person's name because he knows ab initio that his intention for such is crime. Now i ask you again, logically speaking, which criminal will register 57 different lines to his/her identity? People have earlier given instances on how one can innocently have 57 lines linked to one person; one can be a sole proprietor of a business and wants to do a CUG for his/her workers and register all those sims to his name, one can be a transporter wanting to track his fleet and register those sims to his name (as each tracker will require a sim card), one might want to install internet enabled cctv cameras in a property and each camera will need a sim in order to transmit images real time, the examples are many. Nobody opposes a good thought out policy but the problem with most of our political leaders is they always fancy the easy way out which in this case is to pronounce max sim per person as 3. Without thinking about people it will genuinely affect.

Let's not criminalize everything. Many people take advantage of 2-3 months' double data bonus offered by service providers for new sim cards by discarding a sim card after the expiration of the awoof period and buying a new one so as to continue to enjoy the offer. Some heavy internet surfers have multiple sim cards of many service providers in order to be online always without bothering about signal fluctuations.
That's true my glo have expired. Need to get another one fast fast

Funny, What if you are a business man and you own up to 12 shops or more that rely on internet, for instance sports betting shop that is 100% depend on internet connection every seconds.
With this you must registered at least two to three sim card per shop for your router.
