Whatever political party we support, it was a foolish, daft, and unforgivable mistake or deliberate fraud on the part of Degi (or whatever variant of his 5 names anyone may choose) to have changed his name several times without going through the legal means.

The moral of this sad fate of an innocent David Lyon is that fraud and impunity has expiry dates! It serves Degu right, but, I truly feel pity for David Lyon. It's like being killed by a mate. Tragic!

Degi is currently a Bayelsa Senator, so, how did INEC allow him stand for elections?

It's also a lesson to political parties to ALWAYS screen their candidates thoroughly. How did the Legal Department of APC (with Barrister Ogala as Legal Adviser) allow Deri's serial name changes go without legal ratification?

Changing names is not a crime, but the person who seeks to do so must do it legally.

I cannot blame the Supreme Court for this ruling.

Unfortunately for Lyon, Degi will return to his Senate seat, considering that a by-election to replace him has not been held. And the fool who caused this will continue his looting and David Lyon who actually won the election is left with nothing!

Cruel fate!

But All those names have one thinng in common and that's "Degi".
Wrong...
One of his certificates had "Adegi".
This man was born in confusion, grew up in confusion, went to school in confusion, graduate in confusion, contest and win elections in confusion.
Everything about him is confusing...
Check the titles attached to his name and you'll see another confusion... "Senator, Bishop"...
Haba!

This is a clear case of forgery otherwise his university certificate will bear the name on his school certification because that is what he used to gain admission.

These are the different names traceable to the APC Deputy Governor in Bayelsa that led to Supreme Court disqualification of the governor.
He bore these names at different stages of his life.

Mr Degi-Eremienyo’s name was written as Degi Biobara in his primary school certificate.
The documents from his secondary education bore Adegi Biobarakumo, as his name.
While that of his university education had Degi Biobarakuma as his name.

Also his MBA certificate had Degi Biobarakuma Wangaha as the name of the same person.
As the Deputy Governor-Elect he bore
Mr Degi-Eremienyo.

The SC judgment is final.

However it is a total calamity.

The issue at stake is whether having different names on a certificate backed by an affidavit of change of name, amounts to false information of a fundamental nature.

Facts:

1.No case of forgery was established
2.No evidence to prove that the defendant is indeed not the owner of the certificates

Case of false information was not proven beyond reasonable doubt.

I am tempted to ask if you really need to be a trained lawyer or judge,to deliver sound justice

IMO,now Bayelsa,what a shame!!!

Only a foolish man will believe anything from a PDP stooge like the OP. The only thing needed to reconcile all the name from the document the OP listed is a sworn affidavit from any law court in Nigeria so how is that a problem worth nullifying a gubernatorial election over ?

But they didnt get that Sworn Affidavit......

You will never understand this judgement until you contract someone to do a job for you worth 10 million, and that person you supposed to pay the said 10 million gives you account name different from the name he signed on the 10 million naira contract.

My dear, look carefully, degi-eremienyo as a compound name is not on any of the result. Secondly, even if the primary certificate name is pardonable, the BSc and MBA also defers. One wonders at what point did he know his real name

Well I do not blame you, it's the society that bred you but for your own good read below.

Ademola Oluwaseyi on your passport and Oluwaseyi Ademola on your documents means two different individuals not to talk of Ade Oluwaseyi.

But here everything goes. You can even see Ade Seyi passing for Ademola Oluwaseyi. Take note for your own good.

The truth will soon come out. I suspect the man used another person's admission into secondary school. Those days in the 70s and 80s you have to be properly admitted into secondary school. Many students who got more than one admission sold them to those who could not pass common entrance. The real name is Eremioye but all these years have been bearing another person's name. The proper thing to have done is do a publicised change of name. Instead went to get affidavit. The latter is ot enough for change of nsme.

My friend, the law talks about deliberately giving false information or forgery,to be disqualified.

This is very much different from the scenario you had painted, which implies conflicting information.

Conflicting information is not the same as false information.

An affidavit would suffice to correct conflicting information.

The forgery is introducing Eremienyo not anywhere in his certificates. Typo and misspelling as well as first name before last name can be overlooked. Not bearing an entirely new name in a governorship race.

But in Buhari's case, it didn't matter if Mohammad is the same as Mohammed or muhammadu.. One law different applications.
