Hello Nairalanders, I will be traveling to the Southern part of the Country for the first time in my life. I was born and raised in the North Central, Plateau state to be precise.

I will be traveling to Aba to buy some goods for a Client, initially I was planning to move to Port-Harcourt, then from there enter Aba and Onitsha after I'm done with shopping I will move back to Port-Harcourt and take a Bus back home.

Now the issue here is I have never travelled to the South, a lot of people here are telling me that there's no security, even lodging is not safe because EFCC might raid the lodge anytime. And the Streets are also not safe.

Pls Nairalanders in port and Aba should recommend a good and safe area for me. I was told keke and bus drivers don't usually speak English na so so language dem dey speak.

Help a brother pls.

oga go and do your shopping make sure you have somebody that know the place to go with you or you will be cheated ooo

lol a man from Plateau state is asking if the south is safe hahahahhahahah!

From Jos...to ph

If Jos is safe to you then PH is more safer that's all.

Whosoever that is feeding you with all these rubbish, bind them out.

They are liars.

Moreover coming from Jos....Onitsha should be your first port. Of call....move to aba and then ph...

Going the otherway round is waste of money.

You reach ph and then turn back again to aba. Down to onitsha.....stressful

I'm presently in the NE, Borno state. There is a project i'm handling over there. Please can you recommend good areas in Aba where i will be free from touts?

I was told that Effc raids hotels anyhow in those areas, as a young guy i have to be careful now.
i wonder who's feeding u about efcc and insecurity in Aba.. it's true
Re: Travelling To The South For The First Time by Nobody: 5:15pm On Feb 15, 2020
Someone from Jos saying South is not safe....are you dreaming.

Moreover your explanation is a kind of lie to me....

From Jos or borno anywhere you coming from...Is more close to onitsha and from there to Aba then enter. PH.

Your backward movement seems you just made up this stuff.

You're are borno and asking us enjoying here about security.

You're not serious

Chai.... grin laugh wan kee me...

Me and my parents don't stay in the east...

They're all in kano and I'm here comfortable in zaria Emirate

The person you posted there doesn't even look like a northerner... He look like your brothers in Aba and that account looks fake... Stop deceiving yourself and tell yourself the truth... Between the north and east... Na which people dey display hatred pass?? Tell yourself the basic truth...Why is tribalism your lifestyle?? Why??

I don't hate the Igbos... My problem with you people is that why don't you hold your selfish leaders accountable for their actions? Why do you prefer blaming northerners??
Sani! How many times did I call you? A child does not throw stones in the market place, else it may hit the head of his father. If not for the respect I have for Baba Haruna your father. I would have slap sense into you. I’m an elder and can only give you advice.

Now for you own good and for the love of those who still call you nwanne (Luckily you’ve got the trust of your Igbo friends who look up to you, yet many would be ashamed of your exploits on this forum).

I eulogize you to focus on your liberal lifestyle. Tribalism and religious bigotry is not the forte of a young man as you who look up to Che Guevara, Aminu Kano and Kwame Nkrumah the Osagyefo of Ghana.

Sani the Igbos are lovely people and you can attest to that. Injustice over the years seems to have made a lot of easterners angry with this country. This injustice that has grew into freedom fighting will one day trigger in the north. The north you ignorantly brag about, is a time bomb waiting to happen.

Sani look around you in the north and tell me what is it to brag about? Is it almajiri that have become a recruitment ground for terrorist. Is it banditry and mass killings by Fulani herdsmen? Do we talk about ethno-religious crisis? Do we even talk about poverty where the north has over 83% poverty rate.

Why don’t you channel your calling for liberation and save your region from impending castastropy. Will bashing the Igbos and other southerners save your region? Why don’t you take a cue from the Igbo youths who criticize their leaders and who cherish justice, growth and human capacity development.

The ball is in your court Sani aka Arewa, Osagyefo, Meleszenawi. The time you spend trying to divide and destroy the Igbos should be used to rally your northern youths for revolution

Sani the son of Haruna, decide today what you want to be in the next few years. Do you want to be that Che Guevara/Aminu Kano all in one that would liberate the north or do you want to end up like El Rufai and his bigotic big brother Buhari?

Choose a decent hotel located in the main capital, avoid those cheap hotels that are infested with prostittutes, they attract criminals.
There is no night life in PH unless you re a cultist and crmininal, you d best stay indoors.
Avoid their girls as they used by kidnappers.
I d say you lodge in PH , Aba while being s good trading hub, is a hygiene disaster , hope yiu re not the womanizing type, you could inherit dieseases in the south.

I've been to Aba more than 20 times and each time I go there its Ibo language first before anything, even the bus you enter almost everyone including the driver and conductors will be speaking Ibo to you, keke is even worse. I've been yelled at for not speaking Ibo whereas I'm not even Ibo.

Why not move direct to Onitsha?
Lodge in a hotel then travel to Aba to continue your shopping and back to Onitsha same day.

Used to be scared of Aba and Onitsha before, but not anymore cus of constant travel and lodging especially Onitsha.

Just ensure you remain in your hotel room at night.
And why are you scared of Efcc?

Most of the Igbo traders in the market are very reliable in giving out acurate information about happenings in town.
It's much cheaper and easy to commute blw Jos and Onitsha than PH

The bolded is wrong information. Jos to Portharcourt is a straight road. Onitsha is off to the right. But because he wants to see Onitsha, he should first travel to Onitsha then go to PH from there. He can then enter Aba from PH, buy his goods and return to Jos from Aba. Stress free, cheaper and more time saving.

What do you want to start, Aba people can interact with anybody in English once they noticed you don't hear or speak Igbo

.....they're unlike Yoruba's and Hausa's, I used only 3 months to start speaking Yoruba when I was in Ibadan because of their inability to speak or understand English

Aba is very safe. Feel free and mingle with no fears. If you need recommendations on where to buy from, just hit me up. If there's need for you to lodge in Aba, I suggest you sleep over in crest hotel at pz Junction, government officials lodge there so there's maximum security. In Ph, choose a hotel in GRA cos it's close to fun spots at night and there's security also. Enjoy your trip.

If You Are In North East Without Fear Of Boko Haram And Crossing Kaduna Without Herdsmen Hijacking Your Bus, Rape, Steal, Kidnap You, Then You Are As Safe As Being In Your Room In Aba, Onitcha And PH. Ahhh..with all these conditions and u still say e dey safe? PH that is not safe from pickpockets, SARS, armed robbers, ritualists and cultists. Cult clashes here and there. If those from NC wouldn't wanna go back, it's probably because business is good over there. Apart from Fulani attacks on villages around Jos environs, plateau is the one state where u never experience the above listed.

How can you compare North to South in terms of security or even education? So, Southerners shouldn't speak their language(s) because you're going there to buy goods? No bus, okada or Keke Rider who doesn't speak or understand English.
I lived many years in the North including Jos. I've lived also in Lagos but I must tell you, what you're afraid of is mostly in your place. Why are you afraid of EFCC? South is Canada compared to North!
