I have read comments on this thread that almost got me into tears.

The accounts of those that did not get the jobs are very touching. I was almost moved to tears by some of them. I can imagine the pressure, the expectation, the hope.

It’s just how life is.

It’s not the end of life. In my final year in Ife in 2006, I had a classmate that could barely pay the N17k school fees. He struggled to raise the money till the last day. He was my good friend. Very brilliant guy (first class actually) but from a very humble home.

When we graduated and started job hustling, anytime he came to Lagos, he used to squat with me in my brother’s house. Sometimes, I would even be the one to “dash” him N500 for transport fare back to his state (in the SW).

He wrote the test of Accenture and they said he didn’t pass.

We both wrote the test of an investment management firm in 2006 (we started job hunting even before NYSC) immediately after graduation. I got the job. He didn’t get it.

His morale was affected. Everyone knew he was more brilliant than I was. His confidence was being affected but he soldiered on.

Guess what? In 2008, few weeks after out NYSC, he got job in an IOC that is perceived to be the best place to work in Nigeria.

That changed his life and that of his family and his generation.

The last time we saw, in 2016, he just “warmed” his new house in Lekki which cost him over N60m. I don’t have that despite starting earlier than him. That’s aside his house in his hometown.

This was someone that was rejected by Accenture and Vetiva, small firms.

So guys, NNPC rejection is not the end of life. We have all been rejected by one employer or the other at one point in life. I failed GTB test in 2007 or so (first time I’m saying this anywhere). Today, I earn more than a senior manager in GTB. If I had passed the job test in 2007, I would not even have risen to become a manager in GTB today given the multilayered bank ladder.

So guys, the race is not for the swiftest as the Christians say. And as we Muslims say, what will hit you will not miss you.

Had been following the thread and I have learnt a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Had sent you some mails but i am waiting on you for reply. Many thanks

I'm back again lol, albeit I said my previous post, go be my last post on this thread. I read some people's story here, and I feel like dropping mine too. It can only get better.

I graduated from high school in 2006(16 years old). I end staying at home for 5 years, before I gained university admission in 2011, we resumed in Jan 2012.(five months to 22nd birthday)

Can you believe I didn't learn a single skill throughout my 5 years at home. I didn't complete the computer training i enrolled for, na later I learn am lol.

I just dey hustle, i teached in a primary school for about two half years, I resigned and enter the street, with my some friends, we dey engage in some very hard sunny jobs, but the pay was good then, na so I waste my 5 years lol....

College wasn't too smooth, thanks to strike; Internal(ALUTA, my OAU folks can relate and external(ASUU). i graduated from college early 2016.(26 years old).

Unfortunately, I wasn't mobilized for NYSC that year, I had to wait for another year, it was so painful, cos age no dey my side. well this time I use am wella, to cut the long story short I finished nysc 2018(28years old).

As a street boy, I don calculate say job no be for everyone, me included so I step up my hustle and diversify. I lock up, no CV, my pali(certificate) just dey rest somewhere in my wardrobe...

So February last year, NNPC came, I calculated the age, fortunately for me I scaped through, so I decided to try.

I registered and I was shortlisted. i wrote the CBT and was invited for interview, I never saw that coming though, no be say I dull oh, but me interview lol.

The only thing wey pain me be say, the stress wey i went through, before dem give me my NECO certificate, cos e dey part of the documents wey dem request for. dos guys wey dey neco office stressed my life.

My dad followed me sef, i told him to chill say I go handle ma but he won't listen, don't mind himna so e be. I remember sometimes in 2008 wey we go Minna( Niger State) from Abeokuta (Ogun State), wey i go write Jamb, late registration issh, I no con gain admission with the jamb las las.

I left Abeokuta late that day wey i collect my neco certificate. I left around 6PM, I dey go ile-Ife. Dad told me to sleep over and go the next day, I was like I don overstay sef. I've got things to do and time no dey, na wetin make me miss oga Jarus interview be that.

I risked my life that night it wasn't funny. I had a flat tyre at Gbongan(Lagos/Ibadan expressway, around 10:30PM). Chai, my spirit almost left my body when I heard the sound, cos that place dey hot gan that time last year, robbery, kidnapping dey happen frequently.

I sha manage drive pass the thick bush, fortunately there was a fuel station nearby, dem never close, I met a road side vulcanizer, he was about leaving, I begged him to help that my journey still far, I tell am say I still dey go Ekiti lol.

i had experienced again around OUI roundabout(around 11PM), i heard another sound but not loud sha, damn another flat tyre and no more extras.

I was like damn mehn, am I gonna survive this night, to God be the glory here I am today, on top all the stress, dem no gimee job lol. I don get am for mind before say na 50/50.

I will be 30 by June, officially I can't get (GT)job in Nigeria, like I'm looking for one sef lol. na so I jejely went back to my plans, wey I don dey work on, along side waiting for nnpc.

Anytime wey i remember how the journey go be, I just dey shit for pants lol. I was hoping nnpc go safe me lol. now

The thought that, I'm gonna leave my fiancé in nigeria, and I go comot for two cold years, no dey go down well at all, no be say I like book like that but I gat no choice. Man must survive!!!!

My advice to us, be say make we no give up, and don't settle for less. You can do it if you believe, and you work towards it. it's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be hard, its gonna be very hard. You may fall into depression, you'd wanna give up, but eventually everything go fall in place. that's life....

if age no dey your side, abeg dey plan to comot the country, even if na South africa, some of their schools dey top 200(UCT) in the world.

Don't get stuck in naija, don't be a grupo lol, don't be that nigga wey dey always complain, complains like "if Eve no chop that Apple, I no go dey suffer today lol". Go and learn new ways to make money.

Lastly, don't join Amotekun!!! jk lol

We gonna be ok las las, remember say in life everybody get time wey dem go reach their destination.

Be strong!!!! always remember you're not doing this for yourself alone, you're also doing it for your unborn children, you're also doing it for the culture lol.

bobowaja, iyajelili and mitocyan, i go reach out to you guys soon. I've been extra busy since friday, I go settle down soon, I go reach out.

Jetting out of the country very soon.....

I wish all of us well in life. Never give up. be strong!!!

i hail all local men and women, i hail all APLees and us non APLees, I know its painful, but we all gonna be fine.

pS: abeg don't mind my grammar, all ye nairaland professor, i no sabi how to type grammar on NL, its not official, so I freestyle, just so you know, I slayed IELTS. so don't judge my intelligence based on my pidgin/bad grammar post.

Teaser4!!!!

Really touching. We shall all get the destination that God has desired for us. Succeed bro succeed ...

Does anyone have somewhat definite figures on the salary for graduate trainees (at least from the previous recruits) including on the rumored upfront?
The disparities in the figures I've heard has left me confused.
Apologies if this question has previously been addressed as I suspect it has but I simply cannot scroll through the countless pages on this thread. Thank you.

This came in timely. Thank you for all that you do. This small post of yours has the ability to lift a dampened spirit. You sticking around even when you have absolutely nothing to gain is a pointer to your selflessness and humility.

Just as you predicted that lot of APLees would abandon this thread after getting APLs, it has happened. I am in two of the whatsapp groups created for successful candidates and I see people already complaining about the pay. It pained me so much to realise that after a long wait and getting favourable closure, people can still be so unappreciative.

I constantly think about those that didn't make it and the attendant mental turmoil and the only thing that comes to mind is God should just bless everyone beyond measures.

May God grant everyone the courage to forge ahead. God is prepping us for a Glorious future. That gloriousness is not hinged on only NNPC.

Peace

How much is the pay now for GT...Has it really changed from what was obtainable in 2012?

Hey, this is highly insensitive. This isn't the place nor the time to ask such. Alot of people are still battling with the emotional trauma of being rejected. If you got the Apl, be patience until you receive the official offer letter, if you didn't get the Apl, reach out to those that got privately, not this.

In everything we should give thanks to God. Congratulations to everyone that partook in this recruitment exercise. To the GTs who no longer have age on their side the world of tech is calling you with it's arms open wide. If you can be diligent in any tech field for the next 8 months you will see great changes in your life. You will begin to choose between offers, only if you put in the hardwork required. Asides tech there are countless other avenues to getting the success you truly desire. Don't give up. Keep fighting and we will meet each other at the top. You guys have been awesome

NNPC didn't go through for me but I secured PTDF scholarship. By God's grace I will be rounding up my MSc in July. All thanks to God.

That's awesome. I applied for Ptdf twice, I even got to interview stage on both occasions and still didn't get it. So much that this year when I wanted to apply I realized that I already had an account with them as per regular customer grin

Well, when one door closes another opens. God reigns over all and He will order our steps.

I think you need to up your game for interviews. Maybe you need intensive interview coaching. You can also contact Jarus cos the reviews are good. Also try to develop yourself and try add to your technical skills. Ask yourself what you have to offer apart from your certificate. What stands you out among your peers.

You can learn programming languages that can help solve company's problem. Python is one, and YouTube videos can help. If you can easily learn languages, learn one or two, it will come in handy. Volunteer too. And then you need to be expressive enough to tell it all at the interviews.

We still have MNCs that offer jobs on merit in Naija. And the truth is that every HR wants to offer the best to the company cos it improves their appraisals. They won't let you go if you are a goldmine. Oh well if they do, their loss.

You already have an edge since you can scale through aptitude tests. Some of us still struggle with Dragnet. My 2Cent. All the best.[/quote

K thanks bro.. However, I have Programming skills.(Java, Python,Javascript,C).I am also Cisco Certified. I guess this is what is pushing me to the stage of Interviews.. I actually do well in interviews..Apart from NNPC that didnt do Technical stage interview, all other companies I have been to conduct technical interviews first before the final interview with the HRD.In all I have always passed the stage of the technical interview.

Now that GT APL has landed, we should remember that this thing has not come to a close. Those that have sources should get back to their sources for more information on the EH. The EH must not be cancelled. (I'm warning them now) grin

Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement. This thread isn't a pity party. The purpose of the thread is to get info about NNPC and what working there is like. I feel for those that didn't get in. Heck, I have friends that didn't get in but it is not the end of the world. We all have our stories.
I wrote here some time ago that I almost got a remote job that was gonna pay me $30k to $40k per year. That's over 1m every month, way above what NNPC would dream of paying GTs. Plus, I would actually learn a lot and grow too. I was very sad. In fact, it was one of the saddest days ever. All my plans vanished just like that but that experience taught me a lot.

My advice is this:

1. Get IT skill. It's one of the cheapest and easiest skills to learn. You can learn ANY IT skill that will get you a decent job online for free.

2. After getting this skill, apply to jobs abroad too. Honestly, I barely apply for Naija jobs. There are tons of jobs abroad. Now, I have two job offers, one in Naija and the other abroad. I am still deciding which to choose based on a number of things. My friend just got one in Norway.

3. Rejections are part of the process. Accept it. Don't let it weigh you down.

4. Apply for a lot of jobs. Don't always bank on any job. If it comes, fine. If it doesn't, we move.

5. Always try and leave an impression at an interview. Let the interviewers feel you actually have some value to add. When you want to interview with a company, research on its shortcomings, research on its failures and see what you can do to help. Nobody will reject a valuable candidate. When I did the NNPC interview, I knew I had done well. The interviewer practically said, "we need people like you". I knew I had passed but I could never be so sure I would get the job because I thought they would play politics or something.

PS: The IT skill I advised is because IT is the field that can easily get you jobs abroad. And there are jobs in abundance so if you're good, you will get one. IT is growing every day so it can't be saturated.

Godspeed!

I was under the impression there is a whatsapp group in existence now for the successful GTs.

Please take such discussion to that platform.
As a matter of fact this platform should be for EH hopefuls and any other career development related discuss for the GTs who weren't successful.

Have I told u people Shell, Total and ExxonMobil Mobil either rejected me after ist or second tests one time or another? I didn't feel it.. I know I would not have felt Nnpc too if not that the length of time it took the Apl to materialize made us unconsciously fall madly in love with them.. And letting go is giving mad feelings like a lover's. But we will be fine.

So back to my gist.

A friend from Malaysia ( no be boifren o grin , in case u wantu shoot ur shot wink , especially these latest Nnpc employees cheesy) decided to take me out to console me for loss of Apl ... Umunnaa, na so I follow mi niqqur go ( ordinarily, I would have rejected the offer , I don't trust Malay people.. Them and stealing Kidneys are like 5 and 6 grin , but I obliged anyways, needed to get mi mind off that wickedt Apl undecided)

Dats was how I was jejely eating my Nkwobi and shamelessly licking my fingers when Nnpc trucks ( fuel I guess) suddenly began passing by one after the other.. They were all together...6 or seven in number..

Do u people know that I didn't know that I had stopped eating and was staring at dem trucks... Tears dripping from ma brown powered face and ma nkwobi in one hand with flies battling to have a share.. I didn't know, until Oga sharply tapped my face with his handkerchief... Oga , abeg no clean ma make up o.. Just jeje clean my apl tears and console me small small... biko Oh! Nnpc!

Sweet nkwobi suddenly turned bitter.. I couldn't finish it.. Oga suggested we leave
. yes , we will go.. Madam, abeg package the remainder for me..I know after I wipe my tears.. My nkwobi Wii start hungering me grin I cannot mourn for two tins consecutively... Pls package it biko.. Madam wrapped it..

I got home.. I tell u, in less than 2 mins.. I was already laffin like mad from watching " a million ways to die in the west" and licking the "takeaway * plate of my nkwobi ..cheesy . Nnpc completely forgotten..

Loms... In essence, I know it's painful for a lot of us.. Especially those who had genuinely wanted to effect lives positively tru Nnpc.. But I want to tell u.. U will be fine.. Don't let anything in the world take away ur joy.
Tomorrow go better, I swear.

By the way... If u love writing and u are a creative writer.. Pm me, so that I can share something to help u make some cool headed money...

Greetings, LadyJane. I just sent you a PM.
Many thanks for the extended hand.

Please can you recommend IT skills and maybe where one can learn them.
Thanks.

Now, IT is a very large field. Good old programming is still the heart of it. I recently introduced two female friends to programming.
One now does data analytics with Python, and the other just started web development. None of them studied Computer Science in school.

So, let's start:

1. Programming: This is quite easy, honestly. Most people find it difficult because they read or watch difficult tutorials. Learn a language and start building little projects. You don't need to learn all the programming languages in the world. Only learn the one you need for any particular job.

a.) Node.js: You can start with this. It is open-source (meaning it is not proprietary and it is free) and it is in demand. There are materials everywhere to learn this. My best however is a tutorial from Angela Yu. She's funny and her tutorial will teach you from an absolute beginner to a web developer.
You will learn frontend technologies like HTML, CSS, BootStrap, JavaScript to backend tech like Node.js, REST API, SQL and NoSQL. Don't fear, they are all simple especially when you watch her videos.

Her course link on Udemy: https://www.udemy.com/course/the-complete-web-development-bootcamp/
Her course link for free download: https://tutsgalaxy.net/the-complete-2020-web-development-bootcamp/

The file is large though.

b.) C#: This is also a very good language and it is in demand. It is Microsoft's technology and it is robust and very useful for enterprise applications.
When it comes to C# and the .NET Framework, your best bet is Kudvenkat on YouTube. He has a lot of very good and easy to understand tutorials.

His channel link: https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat

c.) Python: This is a very easy and very versatile language. It can be used for web development, data analytics, and even AI and Machine Learning. Its downside is just the speed when compared to C# for example. It's also very much in demand.

Edureka and FreeCodeCamp have some of the best free tutorials on almost all IT fields.
Edureka: https://www.youtube.com/user/edurekaIN
FreeCodeCamp: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8butISFwT-Wl7EV0hUK0BQ

https://www.freecodecamp.org/ is also a very interactive website that teaches you software/web development from start to finish.

There are a lot of other interesting languages to learn. Just do your research and see the one you would like.

My pick for this part is Angela Yu's course. It is actually very interesting smiley

2. Cloud Computing: In the past, when we build apps, we deploy them to physical servers or use some hosting platforms like GoDaddy and co.
Now, we have cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform. For a beginner, you might just check for some tutorials on Youtube to help you start. You can even get a free 30-day subscription on Azure to test and learn with.
After that, you can apply for jobs as a Cloud engineer or a support engineer. One of the few companies that employ a lot of support engineers in Nigeria is Tek Experts: https://www.tek-experts.com/en-us/tek-experts-nigeria-jobs-in-lagos

The good thing about Tek-Experts is that they take you irrespective of your background and experience as long as you can pass their test and interviews. You will LEARN A LOT, especially about Microsoft technologies. They will expose you to the world of IT. The downside, however, is the pay. The pay is meagre but as a beginner, you can't really complain. Just gain experience and move on.

When you learn any programming skill, you can then start applying for internships. Promotion in the IT world is largely dependent on how good you are. It can be very fast honestly. You can also apply for some Junior Developer roles.

Some remote companies also employ junior devs.
Use these links below to find remote jobs. Some of them only employ from the US while others employ from anywhere so take note of the location on the vacancies. These links are not only for IT jobs, so please check if there is any one you can do there.

Hand don dey pain me and I dey work. I might come back to update later.
