Copy Copy should be South East Motto, because they dominate Molly firewood, What do you expect from a land that imitates everything from fake drugs to fake shoes, fake cloths everything is fake down there. Last week channels TV reported a case of Igbos caught producing fake Hero alcoholic Beers to public consumptions, imagine as if Hero beer is not fake enough, they had to fake a fake.
Thousands of Nigerians are dead because of these imitation mentality, may God see us...............
But you Abooki people also call yours 'kannywood'.

Comments on NL always expose the level of Nigerian intelligence... Some very smart, many very foolish.. Some won't even read before they comment.. Many with baseless assumptions.

The man has spoken right! ...think, create and innovate else you will always play the second fiddle! So crappy.. What's Nollywood? Must everything be sheepishly the American way without any basis?
Aside that America has a "wood" for movie making what else dictated our choice of the "wood"?

grin so should we now change it to lagoswood or abawood or what

somethings are just irrelevant to discuss.. nollywood is just their nickname sir
look at bollywood and zollywood.

Widaz_KLUB
It is very relevant. And you have just proven what Dejumo Lewis said.

So, because Indians have Bollywood, we must use wood too?

Do you know that many Indian film makers don't even like the term "Bollywood".

Moreover, the Bolly in Bollywood means "Bombay+Holly" and there is a history to it.

What does Nolly mean?

You're the highly ignorant. So because US named their movie industry after a town there those in Nigeria should do likewise? That will be the ultimate copying. Tell me; is there any rule observed in naming a movie industry? Shame on you!
What do you have to say about Nigeria having two movie industries?
So the sensible thing to do is adopt a U.S. town's name and change one alphabet?

Sanchez01:
Lol! I share his sentiment as well but let's face it, Nigeria isn't the only country that has copied the 'wood' thing.

There is Bollywood, Ghollywood and Nollywood and other unknown 'llywoods' out there.

The term is now used to refer to a country's movie industry than the cradle of American movies itself.
And there is Hongkong Cinema. That everyone is copying something doesn't make it right. It only shows lack of self worth and original ideas. The Chinese stayed true to their movie standard and story telling till Hollywood started copying them.

I fear for the future of this country. Some post already show the level of thinking and childishness around here. This veteran actor has a point. A good one sef.

Anyone who doesn't know Dejumo Lewis doesn't deserve to know him.
He was one of the best back when acting was......well......acting!
Now?
Just forget it!
Just like the music industry that is serving a local pool of lovers of the same old nonsense, "Nollywood" is hardly getting any international attention, yet we think it's a big deal.
The Chinese League is a money-spinner, yet the world doesn't take it seriously. That's what Nollywood is like.
What's your yardstick for measuring Nollywood's success?
Nollywood has become more successful than ever before. We don't need Oscar awards to be successful please.

I agree.

Just as our athletes don't need Olympic gold medals to succeed.

I get you, though part of me keeps wondering why Burna Boy getting a Grammy would've been a big deal........

Could it be because Nigeria is, well......part of the world?

undecided

I'm not saying getting an Oscar is not an achievement. Simply pointing out that we are successful nonetheless.
Oscar cannot determine what Nollywood should be like. Like China has a successful movie industry but never won Oscar until this year. Bollywood has a successful movie industry but I don't think they have an Oscar yet.
But as Nigerians, we are very ambitious. We want everything.

You are calling a man who is old enough to be your grandfather, who started acting before coloured TV sets came into Nigeria, such bad names? shocked

You say he is talking rubbish? Who raised you? huh

What kind of values were you taught, when you were growing up? Those in charge of your education did a very poor job!

See who is talking. You can only hide behind your screen to write this trash. That man’s name will always come up whenever people discuss/study the early days of soap opera in Nigeria. As for you, even your family may forget your name after the first generation.

He is right. Nollywood is a meaningless term unlike Hollywood which exists as a physical community with studios, parks and design schools. He is right to express his disaffection because he is a member of that society.

You? You’re just a faceless troll.

So if someone is talking rubbish I shouldn't point it out just because he's old enough to be my grandfather. You are one of the problems with Nigeria and you can't talk about national issues once old men have spoken. Yet later you will be complaining how you were told you were the leaders of tomorrow and up till now the old have refused to go away. It was this stewpid way of reasoning that led people like you into making a man president when he is not even fit to be a local government chairman. Go siddon jooorr.

There is something called politeness, courtesy, and manners. You can disagree with someone's ideas politely and respectfully.

But the way you have spoken shows that you were raised badly and you do not even respect the elders you have at home. That is why you find it easy to be rude on social media and call an old man, bad names.

I have criticised a lot of policies and actions taken by leaders and older people. But I have done so with decency, decorum and politeness. It does not water down my objections to their actions.

But you will not understand it, because you were not raised properly with good values. Neither were you trained to be respectful. Don't worry, what you dish out to others, will be served back to you in full measure, in future. Karma does not miss any address.....
