What momentum are you talking about?

In 1983, when the military took over Nigeria was at its worst ever.

From the New York Times of May, 1983:

The most recent figures for Nigeria's cash reserves, for January of this year, were $1.3 billion - enough to finance only about a month of imports - and some analysts believe that reserves have dwindled to virtually nothing in the few months since then. Different Approaches

https://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/02/business/nigeria-faces-debt-problems.html

New York times '83 report was different from how government impacted on lives of average Nigerians then.
As bad as it was, Nigerians bought mainly mint cars and can get on hire purchase, no state government was owning salaries, luncheon vouchers and travellers cheques were recognised form of payment,an average Nigerian can afford basic food needs like milk, geisha, sardine etc without breaking sweat, public schools with expatriate teachers etc

True that Nigeria was gradually sliding, but the military coming on board to manage state affairs speed up the slid.

What the military stole in 4 months was more than what was stolen in 4 years of Shagari democratic rule.

Prof. Ambrose Ali,4 yrs governor of Edo and Delta state of today, was imprisoned on allegation of stealing 100 hundred thousand naira, with condition to get his freedom on payback. He remained imprisoned because he could not afford it until Chief igbinedion made the payment to bring the sick Baba out

Corruption was the reason the military said they struck. Can you now imagine what the military said a former governor stole? Nissan bluebird saloon car of that time was 10,000.

We lived in this country then, don't use New York Times to tell us how governance was and how it impacted our lives in 4 yrs of Second Republic

I saw 1983, even as a child.

There are more people in middle class today than back then.

Ajegunle was a complete pig sty and telephones were for the rich.

There was no Magodo, Egbeda, Lekki or Ajah.

So what exactly is your point?

Most Americans have never left America because really what is out there that ain't in America?

Nigeria could have been like that too if the momentum of the 70s were maintained by buhari, Abacha and ibb...the three menaces that killed Nigeria

Sad is that one of them is still calling the shot today because some people felt 'marginalised' by PDP

Most people from Botswana, Namibia and SA have also not bothered about any other countries...they are busy developing their space.

We can't even get basic legislations like state police passed because some people are afraid they can no longer do any how in the south...sad

Still doesn't change the fact that most of them are bunch of illiterates. Remove America from them, they are as useless as bitter Kola tree!

my point is that public sector has collapsed and has made most Nigerians to turn to self help including trooping to every country out there as economic migrants

Compare that to the 70s when most Nigerians out there were coming back from abroad to take up jobs here.

And my point is that that wouldn't have been the case if public sector was not set in a downward spiral by successive military regimes who spent years as state sole administrators without any projects to their name while their civilian counterpart in the shagari era were creating legacies

I gave you a 1983 report on the state of the nation.

Nothing has changed.

Nigerians are still corrupt and looking for the bogey man when the bogey man could be found in their mirror.

This is quite humiliating. with such overwhelming stat on IG. perhaps, they are surprised. But one thing about these Americans is that they don't think or search beyond their scope. they are clouded with things happening around them. but a Nigerian will tell you the profile of an upcoming star in America. it's high time these people start seeing Africa as a continent and not a country. fooools. but then I will gladly accept their visa if given. who wants to stay in this shithole country anyway.

you still don't get the point...I wrote in my first post that the momentum of the 70s were not maintained by buhari, ibb and Abacha....I don't care who started the momentum...but I am sure that had it been maintained by these three in the 80s and 90s or had they left shagari alone, we won't be this bad now
if shagari had been left alone, poverty would have been an eldorado to what would have happened to Nigeria as his administration, just like GEJ's, had squandered the oil windfalls and the gains of the 70s , only to push the consequences of their indiscipline called austerity which Okonjo iweala captured not too long as recession on poor Nigerians. Nigeria was already in pains ,which led to Ghana- must -go among others , by the time Buhari came to resque the nation. But the hawks through IBB took over and unleash hell on Nigeria till 1999.
30 years later, after 16 years of fraud by the modern day NPN called PDP, it was Buhari that history beckoned to come save us again. @$120/ barrel of oil what did we get except lies which became too evident to deny when oil crashed to $30/barrel before we pushed the political robbers away once again to pave way for Buhari.

So what exactly are you saying?

Knowing artistes has nothing to do with who is developed or not.

The same Davido, if you go to the UK, is widely known, are they not developed?

Do you know how many Nigerians know of SA artistes like Sho Madjozi? Not many. Vanessa Mdee that is big in East Africa, came to Nigeria two years ago and Nigerians didn't know who she was. If not for his collab with Flavor, Patoranking and many Nigerian acts, most Nigerians wouldn't even know who Diamond is. Does this make Nigeria a developed country?

Development has nothing to do with knowing artistes from other climes, that has to do with EXPOSURE. Some people are exposed to different sounds from different countries, they are well versed in anything, while some others, are arrogantly ignorant, perhaps, that is why the Brits loathe the average American.

This thing Americans did with Davido, is what most Nigerians do when you mention any African act outside Nigeria, because they don't listen to them. It is ignorance, and it is nothing to take pride in.

BTW: Most people from Namibia, Botswana and SA can name 10 Nigerian artistes, go and ask Nigerians to name three acts from any of those countries, then come back and propound this your theory

I will not even address the political coloring you gave such a thread, but know that this your post is just as ignorant as those Americans.

What Americans are, is ignorant. This is a generally known fact, virtually every nation knows Americans are blissfully ignorant, and anyone who argues this fact,is ignorant as well

thank you, you get it

If I ask some people to name two Korean artistes, will they know them? Because KPop isn't big here, Nigerians are generally ignorant of the song, does this mean Nigeria is a developed nation or better than Korea?

You are only as famous as your reach, and Davido's music precedes him.

If you mention "The artiste that sang Fall" they will know him, because of the song, but they might not know the name Davido.

What selemempe said has no place on this thread, ideally.
