This came at a time I planning to write a complain to NERC.

Can you imagine being charged 90kwh one month and 2 months later 450kwh! Did I suddenly change my house to welding factory house?

I guess their gimmicks has come back to hunt them.

We will see how quickly and seemless meters will start flowing.
With all these inverter welding machines around, welding factories don't consume so much power anymore

This is interesting. First of all, the N1,800 written there is false. It depends on your disco and your Business Unit. The N1,800 is for rural customers (those on R1 tariff).

Will NERC also ask the transmission company to cap the power provided? Or the discos will do it arbitrarily and cap the power they recieve under so called load shedding? Time will tell. What of the fraudulent meters that some Nigerians are manufacturing? Who will bear the loss?

I felt relieved with this news.

Disco's have since realized that electricity consumers are smart especially with new power saving electric equipment allowing consumers to pay far less when metered than when arbitrary estimate are made.

Disco's resort to giving their agents target just like banks do, in other to meet up, agents use bureaucratic means to hinder delivery of meters then over estimate bills of consumers who have the will to keep up with payments.

Good. I read the previous thread about banning estimated billing. This is good news and I will cash in.

I have to tell Nigerians that there is a enough meter to go round. Your discos are the ones preventing it.

why must 9ja own be different.
when i was in Ghana upon thunderstorm and rain fall the light did not blink.

Just like i said before, our distribution infrastructures are bad.

Since discos leave customers with the responsibility of buying transformers and distributing light to their locations, alot of substation and sharp practices have been employed by customers to cheaply get electricity to their domain. Wire bridging during storms is one of the main problems with low tension wires.

If wires are underground, I assure you even lightening will not cause electricity failures.

You must be crazy. So, innocent consumers should bear the brunt of the inefficiency of the discos? Why can't they work with the NERC and law enforcement to deal with those engaged in power theft?

They refuse to give meters so that they can engage in estimated billing and you're here talking nonsense.

Why are Telcos not complaining about data theft? Discos have zero previous experience in power distribution and that is what they are suffering now. Their man know man can't help them.

What do you mean by innocent consumers.....your likes that carry cutlass to chase away the disco technicians when they come to disconnect you for default.

I have made my point...the discos should be left alone to make their profits the way they deem fit...if you don't like it switch to renewable energy or gaan buy yourself a lister.

This headline is misleading. The 1800 naira is for customers who consume less than 50kwh and are on the R1 tariff. The R1 tariff is for very low income households.

Now to the issue of capping power use, it means that, for instance a residential customer in Shomolu Business Undertaking will be billed 321Kwh at the end of the month of he uses a 3phase 4 wire connection. The bill will this be 321*21.80 = 6997.80 +7.5% VAT = 7522.64.
NB. Cost of tariff in Ikeja Electric for R2T is 21.80 and it differs from one Disco to another.

I think NERC is trying to force the hands of the disco to meter asap. Newsflash, one Disco conducted a POC to meter all customers on its 11KV feeder and the Substation DTRs. At the end of the day, revenue did not improve owing to technical losses which would require heavy investments over a long time.

Discos are in for it.

Nonsense!...NERC just want to finally kill off the discos, even those with the metering units still shunt the lines, leaving just the lighting units hooked to the meter while connecting the heavy appliances to the bypassed loop.....how do they want these guys to remain solvent for heaven's sake.

Power theft is a serious problem unless that is fixed by all stakeholders, estimated billings should be left alone cos that's how the discos break even.

Does that justify unrealistic estimated billing.

In 2 months, by bill moved from 90kwh to 450kwh. Can you justify it? From N2500 to almost N12,000. Now my bill averages N8,500.

The bills was just robbery. Meanwhile, if you apply and pay for meter, it will take months. You even have to pay bribe to get meter. My friend in Lagos complained he paid 12k monthly but when he got prepaid meter and loaded 10k, it took him 8months to finish.

Now they will be eager to install meter if not, they will lose.

tricksters:
Wrong law the right law should be any building without a meter should not be allowed access to electricity talk less of taping the line. Any home disobeying this law should be billed N5M with payment due date of a maximum of 3 weeks.

Failure to compile with this law the house should be auctioned immediately for Disco to recoup it N5M n whatever is left paid to the owner of the house.

It isn't awesome. The discos would now supply more power to areas that generate huge revenue at the expense of the masses.

This would be better since without prepaid meter customers cannot pay above the kW cap while with prepaid meter and constant power, you just need to cut down/control your power consumption e.g energy saving bulbs and devices, putting off devices when not in use etc

Their policy is that you must clear yoht current charges and bills then if you own previously , u must at least add some from the previous outstanding to the current charges you are paying.

Last month, my bill was 370kw... Ikorodu for that matter. Most houses here are occupied by less than 4 people, but our bill was more than 8k each

Lagosians need to fight for this o!

Last year our bill was around 5k, ...now they are even negotiating on how to increase that 8k by 50%
