Obviously, the SC is not in any position to review or admit that they screw up, it's like asking them to admit that they are useless and incompetent even though the judgements was obviously flawed and unconstitutional.

...but I do agree with them that the SC is the last stop in all legalities in Nigeria and the culture of running back to the SC for ridiculous reviews must stop.

The SC's decision is and must remain the last say regardless of the decisions they render.

What our lawmakers must do right now is to amend the constitution and electoral laws to prevent the SC from installing or removing people from office or picking governors instead of the people by via the ballot box.

Questionable elections must be sent back to the ballot for a re-run for the people to vote and select their own leaders instead of the SC truncating democracy by deciding and dictating for the people.

We have a lot of work to do in this country.

Sadly for Ihedioha with this ruling, it's the end of the road.

This is exactly my say about all these SC brouhaha, this nonsense is sending bad signal to our democracy...

She said, “There must be an end to litigation, the decision of the Supreme Court is final for ages in a matter.”

She said that with tears in her eyes she regretted that “very senior” lawyers were responsible for filing the applications.

The apex court awarded the costs of N10m to be personally paid by Lyon’s lawyer, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), and APC’s lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

It ruled that each of the lawyers must pay the N10m to each of the three respondents – the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Duoye Diri, and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhruojakpo. Punch

NB: Olanipekun 10million, Afe Babalola will pay 20million naira each from their pockets.

Exactly what I said. Reversing its judgement in Bayelsa will make the court lose what makes it final.

In IMO, we are not asking the court to set aside itself but to enforce its earlier judgment that declared Nwosu as the rightful candidate of APC.

This automatically will return Ihedioha.

It is a shame that we still av some people here saying SC will overturn it's decision about Imo state,it is not going to happen, just look down and see the knockout...

This is the keyword

“There must be an end to litigation even if we review this judgment, every disaffected litigant will bring similar applications and the finality of Supreme Court judgments will be lost.”------- Justice Amina Augie

She still went further by saying...."Even if we review this judgement"

It is very hard to overturn unanimous decision after it has been scrutinized by 5 Justices' that is wat alot of people failed to understand here.Am not seeing either IMO or Zamfara to get any new judgement.

The next phase of the Bayelsa case is going to be a fresh case whether INEC was right to return the PDP candidate based on the earlier SC judgement which ordered Inec to issue certificate of Return to the candidate with next highest votes and REQUIRED SPREAD. The point here is whether The PDP candidate got the required spread by law. The SC have settled the case of forgery, so the battle is still on Whether INEC acted based on the SC ruling.

Well this was expected...

If they had ruled otherwise, they would open an unending floodgate of litigation that would see the nation pushing for another higher court to re-check the supreme court ruling...

However, I think the case of Imo state is a different case and Ihedioha might actually win the day!

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Do you think Ihedioha has a chance?

I believe this judgement is to pass a message to others. She made it clear that the supreme court ruling is 'final for all ages.'

More so, it is a case ruled against APC... It is just a cover up. The onus of this judgement is in the statements concerning the finality of a supreme court ruling.

Ihedioha should take heart...this APC case in Bayelsa is scripted to pass a message to the man in IMO. THE RULING IS FINAL.

Just like you rightly stated, if they upturn the previous ruling, it will open a floogate of litigations.

Neither PDP nor Emeka was a party to that particular suit, therefore was not a beneficiary of that judgment. Recall it was APC intra-party affairs. Citing Ishaku vs Aisha (mamaTaraba) 2015 and Ortom Vs Tersor 2015, PDP and Ihedioha are gone for good.

Regardless of the next court case and it's legal outlook, the SC won't remove the current governor from office even though they screwed up that judgement because today, the SC installed a candidate without the constitutionally required mandate, this is more about their own need to save and protect their own credibility, that's pretty much final.

Our lawmakers must urgently amend the constitution to make sure that everything ends at the ballot box via re-runs with the people selecting and electing their own leaders instead f the SC forcing candidates on the people because of laughable technicalities and judicial manipulations..

. Litigation mist end somewhere...Late Justice Kayisona ALU pronounced it on one of his judgements on the SC judgment review.. Same happened today. Today s judgement protected the sanctity of SC. I agree However litigation is enshrined on our constitution .So if you feel aggrieved you can go to court .If your case is meaningless it will be struck out. There is nothing disappointing on calling for a review if there are genuine reasons to do so as contained on the judgment.

I think he was referring to a certain judgement that declared Nwosu ab initio as the valid APC gubernatorial candidate in the election.
If that’s the case, it means Nwosu might be disqualified because he was also the flag bearer of AA party in the said election. Also, the issue of the total number of voters being above the accredited voters doesn’t add up.
If the PDP are able to prove that the judges erred in their earlier judgement, Maybe (just maybe) Uzodinma might be sent packing!

As much as I think that Ihedioha was robbed, this Bayelsa case has shown that the supreme court does not reverse its self, they cant afford to. If the supreme starts reversing its judgment, everyone whoever lost at the supreme will come for judgment review.

The Supreme court never reverses its self, the only thing they can do is correct a clerical error in the judgment

Ihedioha and Lyon never stood a chance

Oga, I have been saying this for umpteenth time. SC will dismiss all these cases of review of a thing. Leave sentiments apart and look inward from an objective perspective.
SC cannot dismiss the Imo case like dis. There's a constitutional issue of spread that needs to be settled and the SC must settle that.

Sadly for Ihedioha with this ruling, it's the end of the road.

I agree with you on this. Allowing courts to decide who becomes governor or whatever has led them to become smeared with political brush and dent their integrity. The laws must be amended in such that the best they should be able to do is order a rerun or uphold an existing result. Unfortunately, the electoral Act 2010 was amended to reflect that but the courts ruled against the amendment saying it abridged their powers to right wrongs. I hope they'll see reason to reverse that ruling now.

On the Ihedioha matter, the SC will need to give a ruling either way since it unwittingly left out the issue of spread in its calculations coupled with the fact that it recognized Nwosu as the APC candidate in its earlier judgement.

Exactly. There are many errors in Imo that need to be corrected even if the final verdict remains. That's the difference between this one and that of Imo. This one looked like they were seeking interpretation of the judgement given in the case of Bayelsa not a review. But in the case of Imo, some constitutional issues need to be resolved.
