wwwihy:Screening like that , while helpful, won't stop the corona virus from spreading. If you really want the virus to stop srpeading, you would have to aggresively quarantine everyone comming into Nigeria for 14 days, test them for the virus., and then isolate every positive person. Which won't actually stop every case....and besides it is virtually impossible. |

Screen equipment that could not identify the Nigerian zero case for isolation.. Is that one effective? |
| Re: Coronavirus: Pictures Of Screening Equipment For Travellers At Lagos Airport by Nobody: 5:48am On Feb 28, 2020 |
nickyvil: GamalNasser:Sorry, Gamal, and Nick, but you guys are getting it wrong here. 1.The type of screening the South Africans are doing is the same type of screening the Nigerians are doing...which is checking for temperature, the difference being that the SA people are doing it in the plane. Nigeria does it when you come in. 2.Either way, both methods won't stop the virus. The only way to see if someone is infected is by doing a blood test(Because asymptomatic patients would pass the screening test). Already, facilites are on ground to test for the virus.(for once the Ministry of Health was prepared in that regard). 3.For now, the best that can be done is to isolate every contact, and isolate every contact of every contact.....which is not going to be easy. 4.Don't panic. |

The most useless creatures are apcshit and their sycophancy spirit. So, you have all these and yet an Italian has been confirmed with the deadly virus and he entered Nigeria on 25th February,Just 3 days ago?. God please speed up Biafra,I can not keep living with these animals in human skin,we pray thee oh Lord!!.. |

This is a basic FLIR thermal camera, and is only effective at detecting people with elevated temperatures. Very many coronavirus victims don’t have any symptoms, or don’t have fevers. In fact, many scientists believe that temperature measurement like this is largely useless. |

Screen them or quarantine Corona may have already found its way into the country and being mistaken for catarrh and fever |

GamalNasser:One question for you. How did it spread to USA, U.K, Japan and other developed countries? Are you saying there method too is inept or their presidents are incompetent to handle an outbreak such as this? These things are not as easy as you type them. There are several things that may lead to missing out a positive person when they enter the country. Just don't spew emotional rants because of your dislike for a particular president. |

| Re: Coronavirus: Pictures Of Screening Equipment For Travellers At Lagos Airport by Nobody: 5:59am On Feb 28, 2020 |
Alwaystruth:Yes because 1.When he entered Nigeria, his symptoms were probably not severe. 2.Note that he went to hospital on the 26th..one day after he arrived. His symptoms got worse...and he was tested because he travelled from an area where coronavirus is around. 3.Symptoms of coronavirus-19 in the early stage include fever, weakness and cattarh. Now, that's the same symptoms as seen in cases of catarrh (which is caused by a relative of the same coronavirus-19). What heightened suspicion was that he travelled from an endemic area..which was why he was quckly isolated and tested.(and that shows our system is working) 4.Most screening tests around the world look at the temperature. Temperature can vary from day to day, even in feverish people. It is possible that when he came in, his temperature had fallen (which could be due to normal variations, or he could have taken some paracetamol or other anti-fever drugs before flying to Nigeria). 5.The screening tests used around the world would miss most asymptomatic travellers. COVID-19 has an incubation period of 14 days. 6.If we really wanted to stop the virus...we should quarantine each and every one coming into the country, by road or by sea or by air for 14 days...which is a logistical nightmare, and also won't catch every sufferer. (Note that people who were tested and given the all clear have come down with the virus after leaving quarantine facilites). The best we can do is isolate and report. |

What of the 14days window period? What if they don't become symptomatic until days after they are released into town? I'm with the 'Sinnator' on this sir- your best is not good enough and your laxity is exposing the whole country and making naija vulnerable |

Nigeria! Nigeria! Una just remember that you need screening equipments since all these weeks that youve heard of the outbreak. Well, even those tools there looks like obsolete. . |

| Re: Coronavirus: Pictures Of Screening Equipment For Travellers At Lagos Airport by Nobody: 6:05am On Feb 28, 2020 |
backnbeta:A really 'good response....would be to quarantine everyone that comes into the country by road, air and sea for 14 days...and even then that is not guaranteed to stop the virus...as some people may still come down with the disease afterwards (and is a logistical nightmare) |
