Unfortunately there are a lot of these fake stories going around. People need to be careful and check the source of their information. On the day that it was announced that the first case was recorded in Nigera, someone created an insane story that the patient worked at a company on Banana Island and that he had visited certain schools and hotels and that he had slept with certain women. The entire story was false.

There was another fake news that 28 people in Ogun State had been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease. That's also fake news.

The government gives more fake news than the people. They told us they are prepared to stop the virus from entering Nigeria only for the stupid Italian to have deliberately brought it.

Thank God he has been detained by the fake news government grin grin

But am very sure patient one truly attempted to escape the hospital. Just trying to cover up the truth with an outrageous lie

But what do these jobless people gain from creating and disseminating false news? Do they just wake up one day and decide to create a lie; knowing that it's a lie; and then share it over the internet just to satisfy some small insecure part of their insignificant ego or what? Do they then feel happy when they see their rubbish going viral? I am truly not understanding. It must take someone with a special kind of mentality to engage in creating false news.

Where did you see the fake news that the government said that they are prepared to stop it from entering Nigeria?? Show me a verified source for that fake news.

The government cannot prevent people with the disease from entering Nigeria. No government can do such a thing. What they can do is to screen travellers and issue contact forms.

If that was possible, why haven't the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, etc. stopped the virus from entering their countries??

This is a serious issue that should not be politicised or used for jokes the way that you are doing.

People died during the ebola crisis because of fake news.

no be social media make people to drink and bath with salt water during Ebola that even killed some hypertensive people...keep on following all those WhatsApp rumors....already I have seen false info flying up and down...
Oga it's not social media that makes anyone to drink and bath with salt water. It is the stupidity of those doing it. Even outside of the ebola situation, many Nigerians bath with salt due to religious influences, pastor, imam, or one spiritualist said put salt in water to ward off evil spirits and they do it. No more incidence of ebola but some people are still doing such.
Re: Lagos State Government Reacts To Fake News About Corona Virus by Nobody: 6:34am On Mar 01, 2020
That was how a silly female student said that salt and water cured Ebola and many people died because of that.

Why do people enjoy spreading fake news?

And for the crazy people that are spreading the nonsense story that there's no coronavirus in Nigeria and that it's a ploy by government to steal money, my recommendation is that they should go to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba and live in the same room with the Italian.

only GOD knows how many infected Italians and Chinese are roaming free in Nigeria

Well the case of the Uber driver demanding 100m is obviously fake.

However what about the alleged poor condition at the Yaba isolation center? If one has been to Nigerian public hospital you agree that it's likely there was some truth in that story.

Was it whatsapp rumor that made many Nigerians invest in MMM, even after being warned by CBN it was a scam? It was not rumor that caused it, it's the same heavy problem facing this country --- stupidity! Was it rumor that made people vote Buhari again the second time, even though there's was really nothing to write home about the first term? That should show you that there's lot of stupid people in this country. Rumor or no rumor, they will jump at any lies that tingles their ears.

I am astounded anyone actually took that story serious. Even when it was shared to me, I laughed and ignored it, but to my surprise the person who shared it believed the story completely.

I've been on social media long enough to intuit when a story is false. The government needs to take a tough stand on fake news before it causes serious damage.

I don taya for all these fake news nowadays.

Have you seen that of the video of Fulani herdsmen poisoning Milo?

My first thought was: Who is this evil man that wants to destroy Milo now?

My only fear is the large number of people who unconsciously allow themselves to be deceived by all these fake news flying around.

do u even realise that coronavirus is undetectable at early stage?...if the citizens of countries with high tech and security like uk,Germany , Japan,Italy etc could contract the virus, who is Nigeria?

The social media needs to be regulated.

It's long overdue cos the number of fake news been brewed on social platforms are alarming.

If we must learn from what triggered the Rwanda Genocide, then we must act now.

Or rather they need to make the news that is not fake available.

As there is no vacuum in nature - something must fill the space - tough stand will not right the wrong.. undecided

Some crazy people stole a picture of this man from an old news article and then concocted a crazy story that he is a taxi driver named Adewale Isaac Olorogun that drove the Italian man from Lagos to Ogun State and that he is infected with the coronavirus. They further stated that he is demanding for a large amount of money and that he will spread the virus if he is not given that money. The entire story is false.

The man has made this video in order to debunk the lie. His name is Jude Ikuenobe and he is based in Edo State. He has not been to Lagos for the past 2 years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dNLVaKb_QE

The crazy story was published on a fake AIT Facebook page and AIT has now disowned the story and the page. See screenshots below (the third screenshot contains the fake story).

i beg to differ, he actually tweeted that he was the one who drove the white man, but when people got to know he was lying, he had to debunk it.
clout is a drugs and i hope he is arrested.

He didn't tweet that. The story began on a fake AIT page. The same people created a fake Twitter account with that fake name. That is not his name. His real name is known because he was the subject of a story about slavery from 2018. I also saw the tweets.

Or are you talking about the Olugbenga Bodunrin story? That's a completely different story.

There are people here who would fast and pray that the virus infects and kills many Nigerians so that they could blame and curse Buhari.

There are! And a lot!!

And don't know if it's low IQ or something else. There are some headlines or news you take one look at and quickly discern to be fake but then you'll see people sharing It on whatsapp and then you begin to wonder how they reason
