Oga.
All those measures are not preventive.
They only try to detect.
Dont u know that u can have the virus but wont have a fever?
See, if u travel from china or italy to the US, u will be quarantined sharp sharp.
All those thermal stuff to me is just eye service.
A thousand people from China will also walk pass that machine asymptomatic (without symptoms)....and boom! U know the rest.

Pure eye service. Just another avenue of taking bribe - you’d be detained for having high temp unless u pay.
Only real solution is automatic quarantine, which Nigeria can’t do because they have no facilities.

Only in Abuja airport? What about Muritala Airport in Lagos? Why didn't thermal scan detect the Italian? Nigerians are just like the entire Africans who haven't been affected. More efforts

Why wasn't it also detected on Italy before the guy left?

First, there are no flights from and to china from the US directly as of today. If you travel from china to say Vietnam and catch a flight to the US, you can easily enter the US as long as you don't acknowledge ever been in china.
So the same system is working at MMA, they ask on the form where are the places you have been recently. If China is one of them, then they will pull you to the side.

The ones being quarantined in plateau state, when did they arrive Nigeria? How did they reach plateau state without being quarantined?
What about the Italian guy? Cos when he arrive on 25th of February, italy already had the 2nd highest rate of infection.
Why wasn't he put aside?
Again dont forget that they said it was becos he showed no symptoms as at that time of passing through the airport.
What does that tell us?
These guys are not serious at all.

It tells us that this thing is not by symptoms or by thermal detectors or by filling forms.
It is by setting aside those arriving from infected countries in a state of quarantine whether u have symptoms or not, then collecting blood samples to determine if the virus is present in the person before he or she can be released into the public.

Ok

I landed at MMA from the US on Delta last week and this man is right on the money. At MMA we were made fill a full page questionnaire regardless of which passport you are using for entry. On arrival, they collected the forms and checked for temperature abnormalities. Also, I noticed a monitor that is taking our temperature as we walk closer to the officers.
I'm impressed with the level of preparation at MMA. There was zero precautions while leaving from Atlanta airport, zero precaution.

I noticed the scenarios at NAIA and Heathrow in the past one week, but there are a few things we need to consider here.

How many Covid-19 patients and carriers have ever been detected with thermal scanners? What is the detection rate? Most carriers look and seem perfectly normal before they get sick, while still being infective, which means you may not achieve anything with those thermal scanners.

As for the questionnaires, I guess we have to assume that everybody is sincere. Would you have answered yes if you had fever in the past 2 weeks even if you knew exactly what caused it? Imagine you travelled for just one week to sort out something very critical, and you end up being quarantined in undignifying conditions on account of fever or other symptoms that have nothing to do with Covid-19.

Heathrow is the 3rd busiest Airport in the world. Atlanta has the busiest. You can imagine the volume of passengers that pass through these airports daily. Why waste time, manpower and resources on an activity that will most likely not produce any meaningful result? Imagine that despite the scanners and questionnaire ish, an Italian still imported the disease into Nigeria and wasn't detected. He got unwell within 24 hours or so after arriving into Nigeria, yet the airport screening couldn't detect him.
This is probably the reason why American and British governments don't want to waste time and money on the so-called airport screening.

We are telling them to quarantine all travellers arriving from infected countries they are yarning nonsense.
Was that not why the Italian guy brought the virus here?

You want to quarantine 100s of people daily amounting to thousands in just few weeks? Nawa

Some mentally deranged people here shouting Nigeria is not prepared.
you are screened by a thermal imaging machine, which you may not notice. Coming back into Abuja, you are given a form to fill while still in the plane. The form collects your contact details, where you’ve been and your recent health status.

When you land, a health worker checks that you fully completed the form. If you didn’t, you are pulled aside and made to fill it. Once you pass the heath worker, there are signs asking whether you have been to China recently. Another health worker is watching the thermal images.

Another good one

At Immigration, all the Immigration, DSS and FAAN officials are all wearing face masks. There was nothing of such at Heathrow. At Dulles, an Immigration officer only asked me when last I visited China and took my finger prints. I was the one that asked for a hand sanitiser.

For a starter, I personally felt fed did not do enough in preventing the first case. It's not a crime if NIgeria successfully repel any case of ConViD-19.

Secondly, those countries' health systems are light years ahead of ours.

It makes sense for people to be apprehensive against a very leathal virus: of which an outbreak could lead to massive lost of lives (considering our level of technology).

Once again I am not impressed with the idea of allowing people from ConViD-19 infested countries to enter NIgeria by merely filling forms.

You absolutely made a lot of good points. But in the case of Nigeria where you can count the numbers of flights coming into Lagos on your fingers on daily basis, it is ok to take such measures. We do not have good record tracking system hence its important to take every possible ways to track incoming passe passengers..

But if it's true kudos
No, it's not a paid advert. We've actually had thermal imaging and other heat detectors at Abuja airport way before COVID-19/coronavirus. The equipment were brought right after the ebola case of Patrick Sawyer. I know this because I've seen this thermal imaging equipment countless times while working at abuja airport.

It was a matter of bringing them back to use the moment we realized coronavirus was in Nigeria.

These measures were in place from January. You have obviously not travelled recently, so you would not know.

First, nigeria isn't among the first set of countries to report the virus... I dont rravel out but I make researches n this is the first time I'm hearing of this form of preventive measures being used against d virus, the affected countries are nt using this so called scanner, the first time I heard of this detectors being used in Nigeria was during ebola virus time 2014/2015. So if it worked for ebola does that mean it'll work for corona?? Mind u I didnt say its not being used, am saying what logical assurance dis they give other than it detects corona virus, do u even know if it detect anything other than high fever?
