You see that is where the problem is, the Igbos keep feeding their children with lies, hate, and propaganda, painting other tribes black.

I thought K the Northerners haveoved on despite losing respected figures like Sardauna, Balewa, Maimalari etc, evidtly is how they allow the Igbos settled in Northern cities comfortably....

The Igbos cannot learn, they cannot change..
This moronic names in bold letters are the cardinal reasons Nigeria remains dilapidated.

Honestly, you are the ones hating here. If the Igbos hate the north, will they buy their lands and build houses on it. If the Igbos haven't moved on will the NGOs they have in the north be giving free meal, cloth, medication etc to the less privileged in the north.

Ipob is different from igbo.

Ipob are still agitating because of the injustices that are still being meted to them.

If there is justice and fairness, ipob will die a natural death.
You r buying lands ND building houses because u were accommodated, can u swear u gv the same freedom to Northerners in the East?

Check yourself, so all other tribes hate the Igbo? Which justice n fairness r u talking about?

Nzeogwu killed Sardauna, and your brothers in the North troop out singing, Dancing, and mocking the Northerners.

Zik and Ironsi were more western than Igbotic reason for their stupid actions. Because they spent much time with the whites, they started thinking they can make Nigeria to be like the UK, but Ojukwu despite his long stay and study in Britain never threw away his Igbo thinking cap and heritage and reason Igbos celebrate him till tomorrow
celebrate him?

But he never won elections in Iboland

ZIK wanted ONE Nigeria so he teamed up with the North to form One Nigeria

Aguiyi Ironsi wanted One Nigeria so he abolished regional administration and joined us together with decree 34 to create the unitary system with power in Abuja, precisely what we have today.

ibo people created all the all the problems and the One Nigeria they cry everyday that they don't want.

Insult, ridicule them... Where? In their land Kaduna, kano where?

Apart from nairaland and some social media platform where racial/ tribal bickering is the norm. Where have they been ridiculed?

Nigerians do engage in banter with Ghana, Kenya, South Africa etc online... How is that hatred?

The only reason you are in the North is for survival and your daily bread which pretty much doesn't exist in ibo land. You are not there to help or give medicine to anybody so stop condescending as if you are better than them.
Saying that daily bread can't be gotten in IBO land is out of malice. It's subtle hatred. It's all part of the ugly life style we Nigerians live.

People migrate to wherever they feel they better opportunity.
If I say your brothers in the UK, also went there because they would have died of hunger in Nigeria... How is it?

Just the way the Hausa are in the east operating kiosk, mai ruwa etc. The yourubas selling agbo drugs, tailor, taxi etc.

It's business interest don't twist the argument on its head.

And am not saying that am better than anybody if I decide to give back to the Society from where I made my money.

You pple should stop being malicious and stop twisting facts.

Stop repeating all these malicious lines invented by politicians. Lands are bought with money, how can a mai ruwa, kiosk operator, agbo seller, tailor and other low income earner have so much to buy land. You can only buy land if you are rich enough for it.

Not all igbos are rich enough to buy lands in the north. Will they now say, they were denied of buying lands.

Before the coup and the civil war that followed, Igbos were the President (Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe), Igbos were the Senate President (Sen. Nwafor Orizu), the Chief of Army Staff (Maj, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi), Head of Nigerian Military Intelligence (Maj. Chukwuma Nzeogwu), richest person in Nigeria & Africa (Sir Louis Odumegwu-Ojukwu), first Vice Chancellor of Nigeria who headed University of Ibadan (Prof. Kenneth Dike), and so many other things.

If the Igbos had learnt basic diplomacy, they would be in absolute control of Nigeria today. But no. It is always I Before Others. The missing G is for Greed. Please this is no tribalism. Igbo culture is arguably the greediest culture in this country. If you have had dealings with them you will know. Now, that is not to say all Igbos are greedy. It just means you are more likely to meet a greedy Igbo than any other tribe.

My brother may you live long.
I am Igbo from a well titled Nze family. My grandfather who was a police officer under the colonial authority fought in the war, my father and his three brothers fought fought too. All came back. I was my grandfather's favorite grandchild because I am his first grandson. Before he died in 1997, my grandfather basically downloaded Nigerian history to me. He also kept diaries. His library in my village is like a two bedroom apartment full of books, minutes of meetings and what have you.

I have read and read and got tired of reading. I also read with tears just like you. I am so happy another Igbo man has come to the same conclusion. That coup was a stupid, ill-advised, silly, daft move by Igbo officers. The war led by Ojukwu was daft, egostical and completely bereft of strategic thinking.

Before I continue, nobody should come here accusing me of not being Igbo. I am nwa afor so much that I can lay claim to the prime minister title of my grandfather tomorrow if I ever want to.

We destroyed the federalism of this nation when our leading lights Ben Nwabueze and go advised Ironsi to turn this country into a unitary system. We destroyed the foundation of this country when the shots of that first coup was fired. A new nation dealing with distrust amongst the three main tribes and one tribe takes it on ourselves to shoot other officers and we expect them not to strike back? We threw everything we had away. Threw away all our advantage and dragged the new country down with our thoughtless actions.

This has always been our problem as Igbos we lack strategic thinking! We are still making that mistake today. We make a looooot of noise and act without caution. It's not bravery! It's madness! I have read the colonial reports on a lot of those Igbo officers that led that coup and it was not impressive. Who are we to kill the leaders of other tribes and somehow our leaders survived? As in? The country was having political challenges and because we are the Messiah of the world we took it upon ourselves to undertake a coup when the obvious beneficiary will be an Igbo man. Are others stupid? Na only us Waka come?

This is why I get irritated by a lot of political moves we Igbos make even today. We have learnt nothing. Let me stop for now. Next thing my Igbo brothers will come here and start insulting me but nobody here can claim to be more Igbo than me!

We should officially apologize to this country

1966 Coup by Maj. Nzeogwu – The Biggest Mistake of The Igbo Military Officers & Political Elites

Whenever I read a new book on the January 1966 bloody coup that ended Nigeria’s first indigenous government led by Tafawa Belewa and Nnamdi Azikiwe, tears roll down my eyes.

Igbos lost so much after that unfortunate coup of January 1966 and the counter coup + civil war that followed. Imagine no matter how much an Igbo man or woman had in Nigerian bank before the war, they were given just 20 pounds after the war to start life with; courtesy of Obafemi Awolowo’s 20 pounds policy after the war.

Personally on my family side, my father had close to a million pounds in his bank account before the war, though he managed to take some back to his hometown before the war broke out, but he lost over 500,000 pounds after the war.

On my maternal side, my mom’s elder brother was a head engineer at Enugu railway station, he died in the war as a volunteer special Biafra forces that went to recapture Ebonyi from Federal forces with no weapon, they were only trained to fight with their bare hands to capture weapons from federal forces.

Now enough of my family story.

Nzeogwu had no reason, I mean no reason at all to carry out or lead the first coup of January 1966, and if at all their action was to be justified for any reason like to stop the Western Nigeria political crises between Awolowo and Akintola, then the manner in which they carried out the coup execution – killing Northern political leaders and some Mid-West and Western Premier, while abandoning the Igbo political leaders was the greatest mistake of the Igbo race!

Aguiyi Ironsi who was supposed to correct this mistake when he took over power after the coup made the most stupid mistake of not heeding to Ojukwu’s advice of executing the coupists to pacify the already angered and boiling Northern Nigeria heavily cooking up revenge. He wasted time trying to reconcile the boiling issue through regional tours and dialogue when the North already lost their key political leaders in the unfortunate coup.

The mistakes of Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna, Anofuru, and co are the root cause of every predicament the great Igbo race are encountering in Nigeria today.

Igbos were completely in charge of Nigeria; from politics to leadership to military to trade, to business to almost every sector and were already the envy of other regions, so carrying out a coup was totally unnecessary when you were in charge, what else did you wanthuh

I am writing this to awaken all Igbo sons and daughters home and abroad, we must resist every attempt to repeat the same mistake we made in the 1960s that pushed us out of national political relevance and others in Nigeria, which is one of the reasons Igbo region is struggling with infrastructural developments compared to other regions.

U don’t know anything u just go about spilling nonsense, who told u it was an “ Igbo coup” yes Nzeogwu is an Igbo man but only by birth, he was born in Kaduna and he grew up in Kaduna, intact he dressed always like an Hausa man and he didn’t know how to speak Igbo, but he was very fluent in Hausa. I don’t know what’s wrong with u people, u don’t know anything but u go around spreading rumor.
And this Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu who was born in Kaduna, spoke Hausa fluently but didn't know how to speak Igbo died fighting for Biafra?

It should also be noted that many Almanacs showing this Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu with his combat boots resting with pride on the severed head of Sir Ahmadu Bello were printed and publicly hanged by overzealous Igbo traders in their shops.

Kwon1999:
Franchasng everything in this post is true. Actually I tried to pass this message before you, but I was afraid that our brothers will call me Afonja or Aboki.

Whether or not Kaduna Nzeogwu is an Igbo, he executed that coup because he considered himself a member of one of the three major tribes in Nigeria which is Igbo.

No two ways about it, Kaduna Nzeogwu wouldn't have had the courage to plan and execute that coup if he didn't view himself as a member of a major tribe in Nigeria.

Again, I think the reason for jubilation among our people after top men from North were killed in 1966 is because the northerners killed many of our people during the Jos and Kano riot before independence. To me that jubilation which angered the north more wasn't necessary; our people should have revenged the killings of 1945 and 1953 when it was still hot, not rejoicing in 1966 after the coup when it was cold.

I am not saying that we are bad people; all I am trying to say is that our brothers should absorb this truth so that the truth will set our people free.

Before the coming of the white men in this lands, if a man commits crime in another clan his people will kill him just to protect the image of their clan. We shouldn't have protected or kill the men, we should have have handed them over to the victims of their naivety.

Lastly, we southeasterners should unite and ask our brothers from Delta and Rivers if the are one of us and if the say no we should take it like that. No need for DNA test.

It is wickedness or hatred that makes people to believe that everyone bearing Igbo name caught abroad disgracing this country is from Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo and Abia; many of them have never stepped feet in south east but when the are caught southeast will be blamed and on top of that the will say they are not Igbos.
Sir, I admire your courage.

1) The first ten years after Independence (1960-1970) was a trying and difficult time for Nigeria and it was similar to so many other artificially created African countries. It was a period where we made many mistakes.

2) Nigeria will become greater if we sincerely learn from the mistakes of the past.

ProudDick:
And the Hausa/Fulanis cannot make themselves rich. They live in poverty. Igbos are even the errand boys of those heads of states. Remember Arthur eze? Daniel kanu? They could not made their Igbo slaves rich.
Says whohuh But you are right, few Igbo stooges were also enriched by the corrupt Hausa-Fulani military governments, that’s true.

But 99.99% of Hausa-Fulanis that are millionaires and billionaires today were made who they are by the past Nigerian Heads of States!!

Abacha remains the richest Nigerian dead or alive! He died since 1998 yet more $billions of his stolen wealth are discovered, just some, so you can imagine.

Dangote was from a wealthy family lineage, but he became super rich through Nigerian Federal Government help and assistance in the form of:

1.) Monopoly to be the sole supplier and merchant of some commodities consumed by all Nigerians.

If government gives you the monopoly to be the sole supplier of ordinary soap in Nigeria for one year, you will become the richest person in your state.

2.) FOREX waivers! This alone made Dangote a billionaire! Imagine as $ is sold at black market for 361, by CBN for 330, and government give you the waiver to secure $ at 330......you don't even need capital to become a billionaire, all you need is approach B D C merchants and sell your waiver or deal with them....they have money to give you!

3.) Tax waiver! Dangote enjoy a lot of tax waiver from FG.....look Buhari has started it again, he told Dangote to give them quote to construct Apapa-Ibadan expressway, Dangote brought his quotation worth billions, FG said okay go and do the road and you won't pay tax for the next so so years, OMG, which government does that if not Hausa-Fulani/Yoruba controlled corrupt, senseless, unserious governmenthuh

Dangote is not rich by his brains or hardwork, he rode on the back of his family name and his tribe, if he were to be in another country, he will just be a normal successful local commodity merchant, you and I know that!

People you should respect are Seun Osewa the owner and founder of Nairaland, Iroko TV founder, Piggy vest founders, and all those youths from nobody family that used their talent and skill and hardwork to create national and global solutions, not government made millionaires and billionaires!!

Every few months we go through this cycle.

Nzeogwu was a patriot and probably one of the greatest patriots we ever had in this country.

The 1966 was never envisioned by him or the other idealist to be an Igbo coup or a power grab by the Igbo; but unfortunately for him and later the Igbo as a whole, a lot of his Igbo collabarators showed the typical selfish Nigeria tendencies which ensured it will always be seen as an Igbo Coup and power grab.

Nzeogwu had by far the hardest job of all the coup plotters and completed it masterfully and successfully like only a true idealist moved by genuine passion could. While his selfish brothers allowed their tribalistic nature to get the best of them and come up will silly stories of crosses and bishops not allowing them to execute the easiset of objectives in their own backyard.

The only moral of the Nzeogwu story and his subsequent death and rejection by his tribe is to choose your friends more wisely. He will always remain my greatest young Nigerian of that era.

Even the snake and northern puppet OBJ cannot say bad things about him. Infact no northern officer that knew him at that time ever did. It's his kith and kin that betrayed him in life that keep spoiling his memory in death
He was. rebel and a murderer forever confined to the dustbin of history

Totally agree with you!

[s][/s]

So much intellectually lazy nonsense online these days.

1. Igbos did not carry out any coup. Nigerian soldiers with a sizeable number of Igbos overthrew the corrupt, violent first republic to save Nigeria from imploding due to the crisis in the Western Region. The plotters were men like Nzeogwu, Ademoyega, Atom Kpera, Fola Oyewole, Ifeajuna etc. Igbo commanders like Ironsi and Ojukwu helped frustrate the coup.

2. Ironsi's Supreme Military Council appointed a special panel to investigate the coup from top to bottom. Gowon was the one in charge of reporting the progress to the council. M.D. Yusuf was in charge of the investigation. Gowon and co were planning their coup so they didn't bother investigating.

3. The only thing I agree with you on is that the Igbos were in charge of everything before the coup. Why would people with everything risk it all to take over what they already controlhuh See as you take dribble yourself grin
