Do you know that this is nothing to celebrate here, and infact that this indicts this Govt??

Clue: In 2014, Nigeria became the largest economy in Africa and valued at $509.9bn whilst South Africa was $370.3bn.

Today, Nigerian economy has according to your report in the OP declined to $472/402bn i.e a decline of about $38bn( it would even be more if you take into account inflation rate between then and now).

The only reason SA overtook us was that our growth since then has been very sluggish with us entering into a recession(successive "negative" growth). The reason why you just overtook SA again is that they just entered their 2nd recession within the period.

In real terms, none of the countries grew.

So quit that Buhari worship. On the economy, as with almost everything else, he has failed.

The question is, with South Africa sliding to second position, healthcare and education are still free. Power supply is constant which is essential for industrialization.
However, in Nigeria the sort is different, even a thing as simple as given birth in the hospital requires that the family provide blood before the child will be delivered. Where have we gone wrong.

Money for fee education and healthcare does not come from Santa Claus...
You grow your economy to generate taxes/revenue to invest in infrastructure - if the politicians do not steal it (and citizens pay their taxes).

South Africa's economy, as it is even in recession is still by far more robust and developed in manufacturing, service industry, commerce, power, infrastructure than Nigeria. Remove crude oil from the country's economy and Nigeria will disappear from the world map!

Stop assuming, Oga. There is always greed behind the plans of most African leaders. So, as far as I'm concerned, if Biafra had successfully seccided as you stated, they could have as well still be fighting against one another. There could probably have been a rebel group within Biafra fighting the government and killing the people. This is Black Africa!!!

Abeg go siddon abeg, Nigeria's economy is the largest on the continent and economic growth is getting faster, deal with that for now.

All of you will just argue over figures that have no impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Ok, how has that impacted Nigerians positively? Are there more jobs? Are you now paying less for more? Do your children now have free access to standard education, health, security of your lives and property? By the way, how prepared are you to fight terrorists calling themselves cattle breeders? Wake up and stop defending a failed Buhari.

Yeah, having the idea of the price of crude oil in 2014 which Nigeria's economy is based on actually says it all. It was on a year high of $108/barrel compared with the price of oil right now (the highest we've had between 2015 to date is 66/barrel apart from 2018 it went up briefly to 71.

With those figures if you play around with the numbers the way bloomberg analysts always do, then you can actually say the country grew

I am not a fan of nominal growth but rather absolute.

All these largest economy things in Africa are just bullsh^t when 95% of the economy is being controlled by by about 2% of the population and the remaining 5% is what the rest 98% of the population is struggling with.

Oil and gas is just about 7-8% of Nigeria's GDP...
Accordingly, Nigeria's GDP growth is NOT driven by oil.

However, Nigeria's economy is unduly affected by oil prices...
Because over 90% of forex and about 70% of FG revenue comes from oil.

Reality is that even diaspora remittances are more than oil earnings...
If Nigeria invests in its huge domestic market (infrastructure, etc.), it can build a great economy without oil.
>
That is the crux of the matter and this is why a plus or minus in that sector matters a lot because it determines FG's expenditure and the average growth of the GDP

How does that bogus claim translate to an individual's daily economic lifestyle? Those angling to secede are doing so because people like you have refused to allow Justice, Equity and fair Competition which are the traits of progressive nations to have a firm root in Nigeria. Nigeria would be better as one country when these traits are allowed but will be best as a balkanized nation, if stronger nations with futuristic plans for her citizens will emerge therefrom. Those who are feeding from Nigeria's stagnation want her remain the same since 1960. And those people hate to hear the word ''restructuring'' because they're born naturally lazy and unproductive.

You won't see wailers in threads like this, people who wake up and wishing evil on their country as if if anything bad happens, they won't be affected.

Nigeria went into a recession years back,
Naira was on a free fall etc and they were all happy

Fast forward and the reverse became the case and they became angry.

South Africa entered another recession and they were wishing it was Nigeria that was mentioned.

Lol, do not blame them.... the mind is a terrible thing. It can think up-side-down if left unchecked.
Most people who wish Nigeria bad actually have no responsibility or have no assets to protect or have nothing to lose. In their mind; make everything scatter! It's normal way the human mind operates.

Northern Nigeria contributes nothing but poverty, disease, religious extremism, terrorism and violence. Yes Nigeria needs to be divided
