Why we were fired?
I joined this company last year March, they have the highest number of software developers I'm Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch

They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking

2. How did the firing process happen?
We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened

Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa

3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million

Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched

Yes yes, I agree
I don't mean to be judgmental but CokeBar, you asking your friend and he responded, tells us that - it's still the same Nigerian mentality of seeing nothing wrong in giraffing aka copy/copy as they do in schools, plagiarizing in high institutions, using other people's brain/intellect as if they were the originator etc that haunted you there.
Do you agree...there's a whole lot of absurdithings Nigerians are fond of doing, and of which they don't realize how wrong and sometimes evil they are, until they travel out or encounter it consequence as it was in your case ?

As for me, I've never got fired on a job as I can count the number of times I've ever worked for a company, organisation or someone. I'm more or less under the category of the self-employed, however in the few times I've worked under a company, I once did threw away the first salary given to me in an envelope. It was a terrible week for me.

Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share:

1. Why we were fired?
2. How did the firing process happen?
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?
Well, in my own case, Dangote simply layed us off while still on probation without any known reason till date. Some actually spent 7 months on probation instead of 6 months stated in the offer letter, the remaining half spent 5 months before the termination of appointments. About 800 of us employed as infamous Truck Officers. We're still in court of arbitration to get our benefits because he didn't give us our due benefits throughout the short period that we worked with him. The salary was nothing to write home about, we were just hoping that things would improve after the confirmation of our appointments as permanent staff. The job was equally stressful in a poor working conditions. Even to discharge your duty, you had to spend one third of your meager salary (photocopies of work-related documents, constantly recharging your lines to call six drivers several times a day, everyday, data subscription for the job, unending transport cost within the factory, etc)
If I'm invited for the same job today, I will gladly pass. Because, people always asked me if something was wrong with me at the time due to too much stress.

A senior colleague in a government firm I worked with one time told me before I got employed, that there was this particular lady who got fired because she disrespected the gatemen. She called them derogatory names because obviously she is an "office worker earning higher" just because they didn't open the gate on time for her to pass in the morning. The Chief Security Officer got notified by the security officers and he took the complaints to the main oga oga (apparently not the first time oga had recieved various reports about her), long story short. She got fired that same week and replaced 2 weeks later.
I am happy to hear this. The oga that fired her is definitely not a woman-wrapper and simp. Some men would have excused her behaviour because she has a vagina. Good to note we still have strong men in Nigeria. grin

My case wasn't that of being fired. The company I was working with went under. Like, the company (electronic payment company) had a contract issue with her client company (power distribution) and my company's contract with her client company was abruptly dissolved. Over 200 of us (contract staff) came to work that day and was denied entry to our office(which was inside the property of our client company).

In fact, we saw other people sitting on our seats. Ridiculous. Gate was shut at us and we all went home.

God works in a mysterious ways. That 60k contract job ceasing, led to me activating a network that I always had but never asked for help from. Now we are Federal pikins. Make Buhari no owe us salaries o

Too many broke inclined people on nairaland..There are companies paying millions to remote workers.
IT is the real deal..I'm glad I studied engineering anyways.

Yeh, it was during my nysc days, I was so sure of being retained at my company but was surprised when the boss told me they would have loved to retain me but the workload has reduced and thus my services will no longer be needed after nysc.I wasn't really sondevastated but I was pained. But like God does his magic , I got a job willing to pay x3 of what I was to earn in less than 1 week.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel
Awwwn, congrats.

Everyday, I thank God I studied computer science

I was given tasks I wasn't happy with and the company didn't really give the chance/opportunity to grow

Oga learn to read and comprehend, she said she was outsourced by a foreign company as a remote staff so why should you be skeptical about the pay. Besides a certain Demios.io pay their remote staffs over a million a month and there are also Nigerian tech firms paying above #750k a month.

I am not into job work much.
Early this year, I got a job which I quited after 3 days.
Even the one I'm into now is for the main time to raise capital for my own biz and also keep busy.
Also trying to add to my passive income stream.

God go help us sha
