Lol...Programming is for those with passion. You could look at Quality Assurance or venture into pure Products management or even Product design, if you don't have the passion to write code.

These fields are still classified as tech and depending on your experience and skillset, you can earn significantly decent wages (150-1,000,000+ net monthly depending on your skillset and experience)
Thank you

My brother, what you installed was not a "productivity monitoring" tool. It was just a MONITORING tool for cases like what happened. So sorry about it though.

It is a productivity monitoring tool... it isn't only for that... it tracks time. I'm a lady too.

Thanks for your kind words.

If there's one thing I've learnt from this thread it's that the poverty in Naija is real. Poverty also starts as a mindset.

Mid Level Software Developers earn around 250-400k in Nigeria. Seniors earn 500k upwards, in fact sometime last year there was a vacancy in Lekki and the Salary was between 800k - 1m.

If you work remotely for a foreign company as a senior and you're good, you can even hit 1.5m monthly.

Before you try to argue, I've been in this industry for the past seven years.

If you want to be like this get a laptop and start learning how to code.

I travelled to another state to pray for three whole days in a prayer camp. I resumed work on Monday and an issue came up with my boss friend and I exchanged words with him.
My boss came to work that same Monday and sacked me and also sent me out of the house he gave me to stay. I travelled back to the prayer camp and moved on with my life.
The suffering after then was too much for one year plus. I cried so many nights till finally God gave me another job that restored all my lost years

You are very lucky, no try that nonsense again

No let poverty wound you. Devs in Nigeria are earning that much and higher in Nigeria.

I am talking of peeps in their 20s.

Bro, don't blame them.
The country is hard and people won't believe you are earning that much.
I am in the maritime sector and a second officer/mate. Average salary if you have DP is 1m per month but from my observation, i noticed companies don't like paying much just that they don't really have choice presently.
If they have there way, they will prefer sacking everybody and replace us all with robots or machines.
Capitalist system breeds Extremely High Greediness tbh.
Companies are regularly regularly looking for ways to cut cost, slashing salaries, converting staff to casuals, Automating jobs by the use of machines, robots or softwares.
Then if we are doing that, where do they think people will get money to buy the products they are pumping out? When the same people are been laid off, under paid or replaced with machines.
I believe the whole system is going back to ground zero.
In my company, they are planning to retrench workers especially my department because they want to automate my job - to be done using softwares and computers.
Have seen the handwriting on the wall and am also making my moves but the question still remains -
For how long will i keep running?
For the past 5 years, have changed jobs 4 times due to company downsizing or industry becoming more competitive and shrinking.
I keep asking, for how long will i keep running?
Sometimes, i wish i came to this world has a lady.
Wetin consign me, na to dey carry alhajis and sugar daddies up and down.
Going to school, looking for job, staying in job, losing a job are allll fvcking stressful mehn.
No wonder it is very easy to go into crime or become a prostitute because it's way less stressful, enjoyable and with more rewards.

I taught in a school for two years in Nasarawa with 18k salary. I used the little could saved to purchase Msc form. Before the admission, I got another teaching job in Abuja where I was able to save 600k within 6months. I finished my masters since 2014, I have never been able to earn up to my previous salary even as a lecturer. Unfortunately, we were disengaged last Dec in Ekiti State University without committing any crime.

Nigerians with poverty mentality.

I just hate the way some of you always shouting "poverty mentality" anytime someone expresses his or her opinion about unusual money/income of some people. The average salary in Nigeria is very very low, can't even be up to 100k per month, both private and public organisations.
It has nothing to do with poverty mentality when you see someone exclaim about someone getting 750k as salary in Nigeria, it generally has to do with the fact that average salary is low in Nigeria.
You can talk of poverty mentality when you buy something expensive and some people start to call you a wasteful spender and things like that

We started the work as a field agent sometime last year, it was a telecommunications work (MTN 4G upgrade) I was still in my final year in school when I joined. 4 months into the job I was made the supervisor, when I became the supervisor, I notice the agents were been short changed, in terms of benefits and payments, I tried working on the irregularities but it bounced back to me, gbam I was fired for lodging a complaint on the delayed salaries of the workers.

A. Month after, my depth profile became so high, I was the one supporting my family and sponsoring my junior ones. I hate myself for trying to be holier than thou while at work. Till this moment, I've not gained myself. I've lost everything. At this point I can only hope God sees my heart and reward me if truly God support good decision.

Why we were fired?
I joined this company last year, few days after finishing my NYSC, they have the highest number of software developers in Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch

They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking

2. How did the firing process happen?
We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened

Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa

3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million

Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched

I always laugh when people complain there is no job in Nigeria, less than 5 month after leaving my previous company I have turned down almost 4 other offers some even paying than my current one

I so much saw the retrenchment coming that I once created a similar thread as this https://www.nairaland.com/5352267/why-how-loose-last-job

You're getting it wrong. The problem is not that people who earn 50k or about are been called poor (afterall there's nothing wrong with earning that low if that's what is available)...the problem is when they hear that people earn 750k and scream "Na lie"...At that point, we remind them that poverty has dealt them a hard blow.

Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share:

1. Why we were fired?
2. How did the firing process happen?
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

So, I’ll start:

Sometimes last year, I got an unbelievable offer (well above #750k) at a remote company. I bought a PC, subscribed for large data and set-up a workspace. On Monday which was resumption day, I turned on my PC, logged in and started the online meeting… everything went well for the first day and I got introduced to my colleagues. My friend and I actually got employed for same position, so we usually chatted while working. To be onboarded, we had to install a productivity monitoring tool on our PCs, we were told everything we did on the PC would be captured if the tool was turned ON but I really don’t know why I cared less.

On Wednesday same week, we had a short and simple test, during the test, I asked my friend for an answer as I wasn’t so sure, he responded and that was it.

On Thursday, I had a quick one-on-one call with my manager, I was fired. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to ask for assistance while taking the test. I apologized but the answer was a straight NO (you sabi how oyinbo people strict). So in other words, I was sacked because I cheated ☹.

Well, they paid me for the few days I worked

I have experienced other sad situations, but this has to be the worst. I was so depressed, the following Sunday, I went to Church and it was while Pastor asked us to greet our neighbor, I remembered I didn’t brush… LMAO.

Now, I got something with abit lesser pay but still very chilled grin
Please I'll like us to chat on whatsapp. Check my profile for my whatsapp number. Thanks.

The reason alot of people think the OP salary is unbelievable is because it is in naira. From the write up, it is a remote IT job which the company most likely is US based, there are many Tech guys in naija working remotely for tech companies abroad. The pay is just around $2k which will be far lower than what they will pay for same position in their country. Blame the valueless naira for making $2k dollars look so big.
