He was obviously talking about Andela and everything he stated, is as is...

It's even in the public domain.

He should also check Tide-water. Bourbon, NLNG, Seatruck group of companies/Jascon, Topaz.
These are all offshore/marine companies.

We started the work as a field agent sometime last year, it was a telecommunications work (MTN 4G upgrade) I was still in my final year in school when I joined. 4 months into the job I was made the supervisor, when I became the supervisor, I notice the agents were been short changed, in terms of benefits and payments, I tried working on the irregularities but it bounced back to me, gbam I was fired for lodging a complaint on the delayed salaries of the workers.

A. Month after, my depth profile became so high, I was the one supporting my family and sponsoring my junior ones. I hate myself for trying to be holier than thou while at work. Till this moment, I've not gained myself. I've lost everything. At this point I can only hope God sees my heart and reward me if truly God support good decision.
I understand how you feel.
But many of Nigerians, unlike you, have in every way allow evil to flourish that's why it was easy for your employer to isolate you for punishment just because you were trying to put things in the right perspective!
I have many times been in this situation you described. One happened recently; ending of January.
I am certain God will see you through.
Nigerians are without protection everywhere.. No labour protection especially against both local or foreign employer!

Bro I feel only pity for that iamJ fellow and his likes whose only stock in trade is licking Buhari's scrotal sack on nl. I mostly pity them because their failure to have experienced what a real govt with mass oriented policy feels like heightens their ignorance to every facet of life in general.

I did my masters in UK and I must tell you at a time I contemplated changing to ICT related field. I have friends in UK, Canada (most lucrative) and Australia earning millions in naiara every other week.

Personally I don't have the cerebral strength for that, not at this my age anymore. Moreover in my place of work here in Nigeria I earn over the 750k they are lamenting that it's too much. Lmao!

Thank you for this... I know people working here earning that much.

mine: I was not fired but I loss the job because of let me say greediness on my part.
I am a mathematics teacher I do private lessons,
So this woman called me for lesson, I billed her 100K per month (three times a week one hour thirty minutes each)

She begged for #60,000 I said no my last is 80K
(i don't know the spirit that was speaking on my behalf because I know that was not me, maybe the spirit of one of those motivational speakers saying never settle for less)

Because my current lessons are far below her offer at that time.

When I reach house the regret I have, I have never had that in my life, well, it was a lesson that helped me in future negotiations

Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share:

1. Why we were fired?
2. How did the firing process happen?
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

So, I’ll start:

Sometimes last year, I got an unbelievable offer (well above #750k) at a remote company. I bought a PC, subscribed for large data and set-up a workspace. On Monday which was resumption day, I turned on my PC, logged in and started the online meeting… everything went well for the first day and I got introduced to my colleagues. My friend and I actually got employed for same position, so we usually chatted while working. To be onboarded, we had to install a productivity monitoring tool on our PCs, we were told everything we did on the PC would be captured if the tool was turned ON but I really don’t know why I cared less.

On Wednesday same week, we had a short and simple test, during the test, I asked my friend for an answer as I wasn’t so sure, he responded and that was it.

On Thursday, I had a quick one-on-one call with my manager, I was fired. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to ask for assistance while taking the test. I apologized but the answer was a straight NO (you sabi how oyinbo people strict). So in other words, I was sacked because I cheated ☹.

Well, they paid me for the few days I worked

I have experienced other sad situations, but this has to be the worst. I was so depressed, the following Sunday, I went to Church and it was while Pastor asked us to greet our neighbor, I remembered I didn’t brush… LMAO.

Now, I got something with abit lesser pay but still very chilled grin

Are you a software developer?

Shut up! Do you know me? How could you possibly know that I can't look a girl in the eyes if you have never met or known me personally?

Let me tell you something woman: women are just human beings and they are not special, or the best thing to happen since slice bread. There is nothing special, classy, or glorious about female humans that I can't look them in the eye. You women are just MERE human beings like men and there is nothing special about you people. What is the worst that could happen if I look a woman in the eye? Will she kill me? Do I, like the pathetic ones called simps, glorify and pedestalise women to extent that any contact or conversation with them is such a big deal or privilege? Nah! You women ain't śhit. smiley

You women overestimate yourselves and I blame the worthless simps that put you women on a pedestal and make you feel like the best thing to happen since slice bread. Women ain't śhit, and their pùssy ain't śhit. smiley

Why we were fired?
I joined this company last year, few days after finishing my NYSC, they have the highest number of software developers in Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch

They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking

2. How did the firing process happen?
We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened

Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa

3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million

Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched

I always laugh when people complain there is no job in Nigeria, less than 5 month after leaving my previous company I have turned down almost 4 other offers some even paying than my current one

I so much saw the retrenchment coming that I once created a similar thread as this https://www.nairaland.com/5352267/why-how-loose-last-job
So, what's so funny about others struggling to get jobs?

I'd say learn HTML and CSS. If you can master both, then you have a solid foundation. There are loads of tutorials that can help on YouTube and they are free to download. If possible check out Traversy media channel on YouTube. Watching that guy's videos helped me a lot.

For someone that has mastered both, what's the next step in the right direction? We (me & camal) appreciate your inputs.

Thou I haven't been fired before.

But I don't find it ALRIGHT working in an organization that has no room for staff growth/development and respect/value for family.

The Question is why didn't you go back or call the woman that you've got a change of mind coz at even 40K I'll say you must have been very lucky

I once heard some women arguing in the market sometime last year that what exactly is someone being paid 200k monthly do. Perhaps someone mentioned he or she earns that amount to them and they didn’t believe.

In my mind I was in shock! When my first full-time job after NYSC offered me well over that monthly with other lump sums in some specific months when I was just 24 and it wasn’t even oil and gas or IT coy.

People are ignorant in this country.

I once told someone that I was being paid 200k annually by one of these IOCs as scholarship as an undergraduate he didn’t believe.
please wat scholarship and how did u go about the scholarship ? let local man try his luck biko
