It is the military that is responsible for its own decline and it is a long story.... 50 years long.
The summary is that when an institution or professional body leaves its core mandate and seeks expertise in another field it loses its core values and erodes its competence therein.

The moment the military ventured into national governance and politics the decline started. If all the time and treasure dxpended in governing Nigeria had been spent in training and equiping the military will have been leagues ahead of where it is today. That is a fact.

Tell me of any nation on earth that has a storied military dictatorship in the past and has a strong military today. From latin America, Africa to East Asia, military interjection in governance has always weakened countries and weakened the military of those countries as well.

You do have a point about Soldiers harrasing civilians but hey Nigeria was once governed by the Military. Oppression started there which still happens till today. But if u noticed a soldier is someone who should be respected owing to the sacrifices they have encountered in the course of serving this country. In Nigeria civilians dont respect soldiers as seen in most countries. Either cos they know a friend or family or senior officer they talk down òn soldiers. Yet we still got some that are very temperamental. On the issue of boko haram I fault your stand. Boko Haram is a political fight. It can't end when soldiers are only told when to shoot or not. Even when attack is imminent. 2. Weapons are outdated, soldiers still use weapon since shehu shagari. 3. Morale is low, welfare is poor. Nigeria soldiers are one of the best in Africa. We just have a corrupt system that has metamorphosed into chop me I chop you. Dont hate a soldier, they one reason you sleep comfortably at night. If a soldier is taken care of like other countries and given that respect Soldiers will be more than lovely to civilians. We still got good soldiers too my dear

Let me shock you all: There are parts of Africa where people drink goat blood in order to stay hydrated due to lack of water. I know somebody who went to a remote part of South Sudan and told me clearly that he had no choice but to drink blood from slaughtered goats just because water got scarce.
