How much you dey spend? Patapa, you go club and carry girls ... People there are building houses at home and remitting Billions of dollars, you are here drinking beer and thinking you are rich. Most Nigerians abroad own houses running in millions of Dollars upon which they pay monthly mortgage. Some build houses and rent them here and you guys will refuse to pay rent, calling them shylock.
Do you know that some of the people you refer to that "dem no born them well to spend as you do" are worth more than some of your revered politicians if they were to sell off their investments and return home with the cash? Go to a company like FSDH and ask them who are their key investors ... MYOPIA!!!

Bro u just spoke my heart to dis guy
He thinks life is about
Drinking beer ,
Going to club
Holding champ bottles ,when all high na high weather na ciger o ,or kinkin bottle

Or buying expensive cloths
When most of individuals in 9ja can't even save up ,
Life is about investment ,make he ask Bill gate or adenuga and co,many of them where not base in Nigeria before

I don't even remember having a close relative talkless of getting a gift from one. Even the ones in Nigeria I don't familiarize myself with them, not because I am not friendly but I always think that these people might be going through one challenge or another so I don't need to add my own wahala to their.

All my hopes are in God and he will send my helper to me, it can be from anywhere not necessarily a family or a relative. grin

I don't expect anything from any of my relatives and that is why I love everyone equally. If you keep your expectations high but get nothing in return you will end up hating them; No one is responsible for anyone, you are responsible for yourself

I have gotten countless of monetary gifts from relatives abroad. I may not be able to mention them majorly because I cant even remember the amount but I know I had received monetary gifts from relatives wella.

The gift I will love to emphasise more was the monetary gift I got from a friend who was based in Wichita in 2010. I had concluded my Masters programme and was planning to further my education in preparation to teach at the University as no job was forthcoming. I discussed my plan with Sam who opted to finance the programme. He paid for the form but about two weeks after the purchase, I got a Federal Government job.

Thinking about it now as I always do, I owe my friend a lot for his heart of gold. Had I not secured a job at that time, I believe God would have used him still. He would have continued to finance my PhD programme.

I thank God for the wonderful opportunity and previledge to have nice and jolly people around me.

I wonder if people will give if there were no blessings or rewards attached.I am compelled to believe that people see giving as transactional.People give , expecting something in return.

Well said.
One needs to be an errand boy for them.

It's a rule of life: One doesn't spend on something or someone he doesn't. Indirectly or directly benefit from.

I'm opportune to have an uncle who has stayed in US for more than 20 yrs now. He's a surgeon and one of the best in his field but the biggest gift I've received from him was 800 naira in 2007. Though he use to give me those big bargy trousers once in a while I still see the 8h as his biggest gift to me because trouser no be my problem.

Oripe jo. Well done sir! Most people in Najia think that once you are abroad you don make am be that.
Let me ask the post too. What is the biggest gift you had sent to your uncle abroad?
Living abroad has its own challenges too. We struggle like every other person to make money. We burn our time, energy and blood to make money.

My sister in Houston just sent me N550,000 for rent. I work in a tax office where the salary is 70k monthly. She has really tried for me, I also got an iphone 7. She sents 70k monthly to augment my salary so at least money won't be a problem.

Your monthly income is 70K but you're staying in apartment of 550K, I think is too high for your income.

Broda Bola lives in UK.
He wants to impress me every time he sends things home.
Always sending 250naira worth boxers and 300naira worth belt, na one ibo boy dey always help me confirm the price.
I Wan ask, shey Aba boys Don dey send belt and boxers go UK ni?
Does UK people, dem be akagum eshin national theater

You should try walking in his shoes. I really doubt anyone gifts to impress, at least I know I don't. I am also certain that the boxers he sent is worth way more than 250naira, you just don't know it. You would be amazed how much the things you take for granted in naija, cost in the first world. You can simply head to amazon.com and check what the average price of boxers is in the U.K. 250naira can not buy groundnut sef in the firstworld!

Another thing you guys don't realise is that 80% of messages we get from back home ends up in a debit alert. It doesn't matter what the sender starts the message by. You could get a msg from someone asking how you are doing, only for him to end up trying to get some money off you. It gets fustrating. Especially when most of these folks were just friends, acquaintances or relatives that didn't do anything for you that should make them entitled. The moment you change your profile pic/location on social media to reflect that you are overseas, you would see the other side of Nigerians. In my case, I just started getting random msgs from people who haven't spoken with me in a while. I even got friend requests from friends I last saw a decade ago, one of them asked me for money the very next day after I accepted his friend request! You don't think we are humans and this attitude forces us to cut off? No one likes being leeched on.

A REAL f**king GIVER never expects anything.
lying sh*t head, real givers don't like receiving gifts.. It makes them very uncomfortable.

Oga forget that thing, let's face the reality. We're all human, sometimes you expect something reasonable from someone you think can afford it, I'm talking about someone that worth billion. Though he owes me nothing and I never asked but being the fact that I'm useful to him, he should atleast give something reasonable.

@OP! Another valid question should be "what's the biggest gift you have given to your so-called abroad relatives"? Warped minded spawns with a horrible sense of entitlement. As if the 'abroad relatives' pick money on the streets over there or owe their existence to your miserable ass. **spits**

Maybe that's why people wan dey abroad ne dey like pick calls from home because of this ideal of asking for something. Someone should give you something because he/she wants to...not you demanding for it. Shikina :/!
