(Reuters) - Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed its first case of coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa hit by the epidemic to seven.

The patient is a Belgian citizen who had been in Congo for several days. He and others with him have been placed in quarantine, Congolese health minister Eteni Longondo said on Radio Okapi.

"What I'd like to tell people is not to panic," he said.

The outbreak has largely spared sub-Saharan Africa so far, but since February a few cases have been registered in Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Cameroon, Togo and Burkina Faso. North African countries have registered dozens of cases.

Congo's first coronavirus case comes as its long-running Ebola epidemic appears to be on the wane. The last patient being treated for Ebola was discharged on March 3 - the first time there have been no active cases since the outbreak was declared in August 2018.

there's nothing fishy...it's same way Europeans are spreading it into America, European and south america... Europeans are travellers

When there are many confirmed cases in Nigeria, then it is definitely the end. Every person, men;boys, woman;girls,children ain't safe. Since we all know the country we are in, let us all be prepared.

Nigeria, most especially lagos[Oshodi] which is always crowded with persons would be a calamity. No matter how hard you try, you can never protect yourself. We all have loved ones, relatives, friends, and families. If these people are not as careful as you are, then you yourself being overprotective is a waste of time.

Let's say: Mr A wears protective mask anytime he goes to work: Mr A is afraid of contracting Corolla virus. Mr A has children who doesn't put on the mask also his wife. These family of his could infect him when he finally gets home since there are times he would spend with them.

Imagine being in a bus and you are locked in a traffic jam. Someone coughs, then air circulates and every passengers in that bus breath. If the person that coughs has the Corolla virus, then the whole passengers would be infected without the exception of the driver and his conductor.


We all as Nigerians need to fight this virus together and not just only depending on the FG to do something. We can start by advising people to always cover their mouth when they sneezes, coughs and also yum. If possible, let them get a hanky so that whenever they cough - no one would be infected.

A post about a GTB security guard was seen using a device to check customers temperature. That is also commendable as it is a start to fighting the virus. We all know how some Nigerians are, some persons were ridiculing the guard that he should first check himself before checking other --- wicked.

If that same guard captures a person who has the virus and the temperature reads above the normal temperature ,then also assume that those people ridiculing him are present in that same bank. Wouldn't he be commended by his selflessness?
