Both undergraduate visa interview interview and post graduate follows the same interview pattern. Almost all that is asked a graduate student is asked undergraduate students.

Just prepare well for your interview and prepare to answer similar questions to the ones you see here.

Thank you Sultanfortune

Hello house,
I have some questions i want I want to ask

No 1: I have gotten admission from some Top University in the United States , step by step what are the next things to do on time since one have to make the appointment for the interview within 120 days to the start of the program.

No 2: Can I be able to procure the VISA myself provided i have all of the necessary information at large or should I just stick with Travel Agent knowing that the Fees would be a cut-throat.

No 3: Any advice for the Interview preparation will be gladly welcome.

NB: The No 1 breakdown is what is keeping me on hold for now and I really need a directive for it thanks.

(1) Once you have your I-20 handy, you can go on and book your visa interview. Any date from late April for Fall entry is within the 120 days to resumption of class so I guess you should be fine with any date from late April upwards to July.

(2) You don’t need any agent whatsoever. Once you’re able to pay your sevis fee, fill your DS-160 form and schedule your visa interview and prepare for your interview.

(3) The advise I will give you for your visa interview is to read through all the visa interview transcripts on here and model your own answer in a way peculiar to yourself.

Adequate preparation is key. GOODLUCK!

Please, has anyone heard from Kansas state University? Department of Political science to be precise. I messaged the department and GC but their response is kinda elusive about the decision date.

Their admission status is delaying other pending decision(s).
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 6:07pm On Mar 15, 2020
It depends on where you’re traveling to.

But to US there’s no need for yellow card. I know it’s a requirement before you can land in SA

Who has traveled lately from Nigeria airport? I had no one can travel out of Nigeria without a yellow card. How true is this?

hi everyone.. just a quick inquiry. what's the requirement for a Nigerian student wanting to get her masters in the states? also what exams does she need to take to get a scholarship - full tuition and all of that covered? asking for my sister..

The questions you asked cannot be fully answered by another person. For your sister to know what is required for a master's admission, she will need to first decide which program she wants to study. Program of choice determines the requirement for admission. She may need to write GRE, evaluate her academic transcript (not required by every school), etc. My advice is that, read some of my posts on thread 14 and 15, the current one. Use Google to search for schools, and visit each school you see to determine their requirement for admission and full funding GA. If you have a specific question, ask.

She should use Google and search for schools that offer psychology MS or PhD. She could type it State by State or just type schools that offer Psychology masters in the US.

Majority of Psychology graduate programs in the US requires GRE for funding purposes, so I encourage she register and write the GRE if she wants to be funded. She can prepare the GRE in say 3-4 months and write the exam and start preparing her application to schools against next FALL.

Please do you know schools that still have their applications open for Fall2020? I wanted to apply to ETSU before but learnt their application is closed. Thanks

I am a psy major too and I'd like to connect with her. I am planning on doing the GRE which is compulsory for funding in 99% of the universities. I am working towards fall of 2021.

Thanks for the information but where I am getting more confusion is that do I have to pay the SEVIS fee first before I could make an appointment for interview

Can a bank Inflow that makes up the tuition and living expenses be used for filling the DS-160 and I-20 form or must it be a ready available cash amount for the FEE in the bank account
and also using a different bank for the 1-20 form and Interview will it be a Red Flag or bad since they are ones available at the time

You can start your DS-160 form, get the DS-160 number, pay your visa fee and use the DS-160 number to book your visa interview date then pay sevis fee later. You can pay your sevis fee up until 3-4 days to your visa interview date, but if you have the money available you can pay much earlier.

You don’t need a bank account to be able to fill in your DS-160 form. All you need to do is to fill in the name of your sponsor you will be using his/her statement of account to the embassy for the visa interview.

And for your I-20, you will need to present to the school account statement that covers your tuition and living expenses if you are not given scholarship or GA and the money must be shown in the statement of account you present to the school for them to be able to issue your I-20.

As for the last question, if you have a statement of account that you can use to get your I-20, why not use same for your visa interview since the sum is still in the statement of account you are presenting to the school? Or is there anything else to using 2 different SOA, one for I-20 and the other for visa interview?

Good day house. I am new to the forum but want to say thank you to those who make out time out of no time to guide people here.

I recently applied to a school and was given admission, I am currently at the point of processing the I-20 and booking interview date but reading page 3/4 where it says to follow a logical approach BSc-MSc- PhD, I sort of want to halt this and look at the postgraduate option.

I have a couple of questions. First will it still be an illogical approach if I have a Bsc and want to pursue a diploma by starting from the scratch in another discipline due to change of interest?

Secondly is it possible to read and write GRE& TOEFL in 2weeks. Please can anyone refer a centre. I am looking at Fall 2020.

Thanks.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Pepperoni001: 1:52pm On Mar 17, 2020
The truth is there's nothing impossible under the sun.

However, It is usually a big hurdle to cross when you have a Bsc already and you are going to the states to get another Bsc. Though, I have seen one or two persons scaled through at the embassy before. I will tell you it doesn't worth the stress at all. You can get to USA and switch to even college. This should answer your first question.

Secondly, Whatever that is worth doing at all is worth doing well. Having said that, it is not advisable to study for 2 weeks for GRE & TOEFL, you will crash.

Lastly as regards center that is a subject to your present location.

Everything written here are all my opinions.

Life comes with different phase, staying in Naija as a graduate is not easy, don’t associate yourself with failure, people did not make it does not means I will not make it, there is a million reason why the person fail. I have never seen a Naija student that travel to the United States for studies and go back to Nigeria except those that their family already lay a huge position waiting for them. People have been here thru academics and got their residency via H1B. And lastly no course in the United States is useless, know what you study and be good at it, you will get multiple offers. Stop trying to discourage people, instead motivate them.

Motivation speech is good however the bold how accurate are both .... there are some courses that are just not in demand or marketable for international student in the USA... no amount of been good will turn it to single offer not to talk of multiple offers

Motivation is good but dont let people go and make decisions that lead to nowhere. The aftermath frustration and effect on mental health is very draining

Please dear can you give example of those courses. Truth hurts but it is still better to tell it.
Also, does school reputation affects ones job opportunities? Lets say someone going for Msc computer science in a not-so-reputable university. Computer science has numerous opportunities based on what I heard but I really want to know if the school reputation can increase or decrease someone's employment opportunities.

Hello house,
I applied to some schools for Fall 2020 Masters. 3 days ago I got an admission offer from one of the schools(Hood College Maryland, a private institution). My question is that I haven’t responded yet because I want to see the outcome of the other schools so do you think they can revoke the offer? Can I go ahead to accept then later decline if I decide to go with another school option? Thank you

I think it’s difficult to pass gre well with two weeks of prep except you’re a genius, I think gre needs about 2 months of preparation, toefl on the other hand can be passed within a week if you’re an above average student, this applies to graduate students though not undergrad

So far as it's an accredited University you should be fine. Don't overburden yourself or your family by going to a very expensive "top" University. CS, CIS, Data Science etc are highly applicable in many sectors here, all you have to do is to learn in-demand tools. Also be prepared for the intense competition for STEM jobs, but that's how Naija has trained us smiley
