Considering the fact that Nigeria as it is currently run does not have the capacity to build a 1000 bed hospital in just days. It is imperative to identify already existing resources that can be used to cater for thousands of infected patients in a potential outbreak.

Amazingly, in terms of structure, some enclosed Nigerian buildings may prove so useful for a whole number of reasons. Personally, I have always argued that government should work with churches and incorporate their facilities with NEMA as potential temporal facilities to accommodate large numbers of people during intense national crisis. Of course, there's need for government to build her own facilities as the Churches built theirs for a reason.

But with the Covid19 potential outbreak, Churches are not going to be operational for the large part. So government should begin initiating contacts with churches to see if their facilities are suitable for makeshift hospitals in case of a potential outbreak.

1st: Faith Tabernacle Ota:

Faith Tabernacle Ota is one of the largest free span structure currently existing anywhere in the world. Worth billions of Naira. The facility can accommodate 53,000 worshippers at any given time. It can therefore accommodate between 3,000 - 3,500 beds. With it being fully Air conditioned, it is independent of external ventilation.
Another feature which makes it an ideal place for mass treatment of potential infected patients from South West Nigeria is that it is run by an independent power plant with a 21 year record of having 24/7 electricity.

Lastly, a two minutes drive eastward into the Church's university is one of the country's most viable molecular and virology laboratories, which can be used to test patients.

China built huge facilities within the space of few days. Buhari should be ready to do the same since he bluntly refused to close the border against effected nations

Senseless post. Is the church only religious body that has big facilities? What happened to mosques that hardly have seats in them? Why cant d national mosque in abuja be used for that purpose? Why can't they be used? After claiming d church is extorting members to build big facilities, you now want to benefit from it. Hypocrisy.
Oh so the church can be useful now. Rubbish

Useless people, they know how to build big churches that can contain 50,000 worshippers but can't build facilities that will serve life-threatening purposes.
This is one of the most dumbest, stupidest and idiotic comment I've ever read. At no time of your continous incoherent blabbing have you said anything that can be consider rational.

Like building facilities that will serve life threatening purpose, really? are they your government or are you this naturally dumb?

Next time if you don't have anything reasonable or sensible to say, just upload a picture please.

I'll recommend the start by preparing this building wasting away in Lagos belonging to federal government. I believe more of such are every in other states and not just one of such in Lagos.

I'm not but rather you need a brain reset if it's so difficult for you to differentiate between an isolation center and rescue for hurricane. Again, go back to your irresponsible government to do the needful with the tax they collect. Churches are not isolation centres

Forgive me if I say your post is a bit malicious and biased.
To respond to your posts, these church buildings can't be used as health centres because they don't have internal walls to create "rooms" for patients to be isolated from each other.

Highly infectious diseases aren't treated in open places.
These churches also don't have plumbing (inflow and outflow) in these big spaces you are looking at.

The cost of building temp walls for cubicles and also running plumbing and restrictive ventillation (air condition) for each cubicle will be crazy, it's better to just build health facilities from scratch

You need to first get the meaning of a pandemic before making a point.

Neither does being a Christian automatically give you authority to suggest that other persons' properties be taken up by the government for whatever purpose.
The government should go and be responsible instead of looking for private individuals to bail them out. How long should it have taken a responsible government to have erected structures that serve as triage sites in every region at least?
It will amount to a high level of irresponsibility for private individuals to cover up for a mediocre government. If the government was up and doing in time past, that's another matter. If the spiritual business men to whom the church buildings belong voluntarily offer their properties for the use of the government it is a different thing. But to allow government into these expensive structures would be tantamount to inviting callous people into the buildings who are likely going to leave damages behind.

HigherEd:

Remember, corona does not discriminate between church goers and atheist. I sincerely believe these are the only facilities that can bed thousands of patients at the same time. Particularly, since Nigeria is plagued with uniquely useless political leaders.

It's not like patients are going to be there forever anyway. And once population of infected decreases to below 200 they can be relocated to proper hospitals and the Church facilities thoroughly disinfected.

I wrote about this because I'm a Christian. I didn't include mosque as I do not have the authority to write on that. But any true Church should be willing to help in a national crisis
