The metric which should give a better indication of performance is the Goal To Game Ratiio.

Messi has only played in the Liga where more than 40 per cent of the clubs he has faced have remained in the top flight since his debut.

Common sense should tell anybody that having played in four leagues, Ronaldo must had had the opportunity to pad his stat with likes of Sunderland, Wigan, Victoria Setubal, Brescia, SPAL and other relegation fodders and yo-yo teams.
