It is breakfast, which is supposed to be a "small thing". Breakfast approach in Nigeria is very wrong. In Nigeria people do very heavy breakfast like swallow, ogbonge beans and yam, mountain of rice and half chicken as early as 8am in the morning as breakfast. This is just too much.

And the process is repeated in the afternoons and evenings. So Nigerians eat three heavy meals a day and then wonder why people are struggling with personal weight issues and "big tommy". All that heavy stuffing of carbohydrate, fat and salt will store somewhere in the body; for the ladies that would be tommy, bum and arm. For the male, that is pot belly.

By design we should only eat one heavy meal a day and that should not be breakfast. Maybe lunch or early dinner could be heavy.

Breakfast should be light like fruit and vegetables salad with a slice of bread and milk or tea or coffee or juice or even water. You are good to go.

Where did u get this from? Are u a medical personnel or a nutritionist? How did u come about the notion that breakfast must be light?

Well, I'm not a nutritionist neither am I a professional health worker, but I've once been told by a professional that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

The former company in charge of our health insurance where I work; as part of the HMO package do have a quarterly session with us where they educate us on healthy living and ways to ensure we don't always visit hospitals every now and then.

In one of the sessions, they brought a medical personnel who explained to us that breakfast is theost important meal of the day. She further explained that there is a reason it's called "BREAKFAST". You are obviously breaking a fast. She said for example if u eat dinner around 8pm yesterday night before going to bed and Ur normal breakfast time is 9am, u should know that you have fasted for good 13 hours. You will breking the fast by 9am you should obviously eat well.

She posited it is very important u take breakfast serious. In fact she pointed at what the English breakfast comprises....looking at it u will know they mean business.

So except u are talking from the view point of a professional, I may have to disagree with u on this

You didn't say the nutritionist asked you to stuff yourself. Yes, the nutritionist is correct, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That doesn't mean it should be heavy. When nutritionist say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they mean DO NOT skip breakfast all in the name of controlling body weight. You MUST have breakfast, but it is wise and healthy to keep it light. Fruit and Veg, cereal with less sugar, oat are superior breakfast options.

Rubbish. They’re the ones that even need heavy food because of the nature of their work.

Oga there is nothing wrong in eating rice and half chicken...yam and beans in the morning provided u are going to have a productive day that involves u burning the calories.

How can can u say breakfast must be only fruit and vegetables? On what premise are u saying this? Is it just what u think is right or what u read somewhere?

Quote an authority please.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in taking heavy breakfast. Just like someone told u up there, it depends on people's jobs too. U can't just sit somewhere and be condemning people's choice of food

I agree with you on this but it takes discipline and hard work to eat well , people are often lazy to eat in the morning except those who need it due to the nature of their jobs , poverty is another factor, sometimes I intentionally wait till about midday before having my first meal when I'm broke , that way you only eat twice a day, lol. but most people with white collar job still prefer light breakfast in the morning because you don't want to start sleeping in the office after a heavy meal.

hmmmm, getting this narrative from a different angle o.

Breakfast is the most Important meal and should be taken like a king...

The problem is most people rarely have that serious appetite to eat in the morning..Which is why beverages with few slices of bread are best selling in any country..Because they appear lightly.

In the morning all the microbes in the gut flora are woke and demanding for daily manner..

It's dinner or so that comes lightly for easier digestion before one sleeps.

To avoid over working the system.

Having healthy food is good, but eating healthy extends life.
