Good Day Nairalanders, let me start by apologizing. I know that this post is meant to be in the Business Section and not romance section. As a person, I have bought goods from people who advertise on Nairaland. The transaction was on point, very great. No problems at all. Now, I want to know the experience of a Vendor on Nairaland.

I am hoping to advertise my products too on Nairaland in order to attract customers. What should I look out for? Is it safe to drop a secondary phone number?(I am already thinking this would be a bad idea, considering the number of scammers that are online). Or should I drop an e-mail. Which is the safest? Should I drop a secondary phone number and insist on messages only. No phone calls!.

Is there a messaging system on Nairaland I can use to communicate with prospects.

I know that when people set out to do better in life, they may find themselves in a more terrible position if care is not taken. That is why I am seeking opinion, I need Nairalanders to share their experience as a vendor on Nairaland. How do you attract customers safely without losing what you already have.

The first land I sold was on nairaland. I listed a property for sale on the property section, a woman called and booked a day to see the place. She came on time and liked the estate. I made arrangements to see the owner and the deal was sealed. The Commission was meant to be around 2 million naira but the client used (don't worry, we still have more business to do) sense for me and gave me only 200k. I was happy because that was one of my first briefs in real estate so it seems like big money to me back then. When I think about it now, I get annoyed knowing I could have bargained for a higher commission.

When you sold your first land on Nairaland, was it your primary phone number you listed or secondary phone number (business phone number). And what precautions did you take in order to ensure that scammers do not contact you. Please I will appreciate any piece of advice you have for me.

I used my primary phone number. As with scammers, I don't work with other agents so the chances of meeting a scammer is unlikely and when I speak with a client, I can almost tell if they are time wasters or dodgy.

Some people have called me around 10pm to view houses and I turn them down no matter how expensive the house is. Some have asked to pay rent and move in first and pay me my agency when they get their next salary, I tell them they can pay and tie down the house but cannot move in until they pay every other charge especially my commission. You know, what ever business you plan to market online, you will always meet some people who will try to play smart. Best thing is not to jump at offers immidiately but take time to do your research and findings.
