I believe 'sensible' is the major factor here.

A guy dropping his girl after he makes money isn't always because of the girl. Majority, yes, but human beings are fickle, and would always deviate from the expected result.

Like someone said above, most people don't truly know themselves until they undergo certain tests and trials. A man who suddenly becomes rich may turn arrogant and change his taste, hence dropping his babe and moving on to finer, classy babes to suit his new lifestyle. That's a fact.
