I would advise the anonymous and other young Nigerians that want to do their PhD to try some of the universities in South Africa. Universities like KwaZulunatha University, PhD student will not school for the whole 3 years. At University of the Western Cape, PhD student will only pay school fees once which is around R40, 000 (convert Rand to Naira) in the first year. Other years u only pay for registration which is around R2,000 per year. South Africa universities are very good, quality, and affordable. It is much better than UK universities provided if one does not have scholarship or sponsor. NB: No job for foreigners after PhD. It is better to come back to Nigeria or look for jobs outside South Africa. |

sexylassie2:PTDF Scholarship not his personal cash. It's for 3years. Tuition Accommodation Feeding Conferences Etc. All inclusive and it's even not enough. We are talking exchange rate of pounds to naira here honey. If you see someone with a UK PhD hail am no bi beans. It's usually via scholarship majority(not all) of the people sponsoring their self are usually politicians kids with enough money to throw around. |

CzarChris:sorry sir,it is impossible for ptdf to give a phd student 45 million naira that is not true, 45 million naira is like 100,000 pounds |

sexylassie2:Well feel free to believe what you want, but PTDF Scholarship is around 45million and Tetfund scholarship is 30million naira both for PhD scholars. And Tetfund scholars end up doing odd jobs to survive in the UK because the 30m can't last more than 2 years. And the money is not paid to you once it's paid in tranches/installments. Please do your investigations/enquires properly before coming here to sound disrespectful. In the UK you pay your tuition fees every year for the 3years, depending where your school is, accommodation varies. Most times you have to travel to atleast 3-4 different countries for field work or conferences. That £100k is change when you put all these into account. You maybe lucky to get a good professor as your supervisor and he might help you out financially for field work or conferences if he has access to grants. I repeat if you see someone with a UK PhD, respect am e no easy. |

CzarChris:Are you for real, stop cooking up stories and exaggerating figures. No scholarship fund in Nigeria will give you 100,000 pounds, How much is a annual salaries of a UK teacher 10 -14k pounds And you are here writing that ptdf will give a PhD student 100k pounds. |

Trello:Why not try Sweden or any of the Nordic countries with English language universities. They are far cheaper and you will save the cost of your course there than UK or any of the big European countries. |

Anyways, I currently hold a Master's degree and I also recently gained admission into a PhD program in a UK university but with no funding from the school and the estimated total cost of the tuition and living expenses amount to about #16 million for the 3 years. So, I decided to come seek the opinion of folks here with better experience if it really worth spending this amount in the long run or should I rather invest this amount? You are right & he might also get funding. I highly recommend the Netherlands but Sweden is fine. Finland & Switzerland too There’s France at €380 tuition per year but you need to learn french to survive. U.K. is definitely not worth spending 16m on Phd. They should be the ones funding you because your research is of their own benefit. Eg: if you discover how to turn make car to fly, they will do quick & claim both you & the research. So you shouldn’t actually pay for Phd rhames: |

U see the problem with some Nigerians, you once read a comment where I wrote I was a teacher and in ur perception of what an average teacher in Nigeria appears like, u arrived at a conclusion. Well if u must know, I engage in multiplicity of ventures for survival and future build ups. So bury ur thought of mediocrity towards me ok. I don't have to go beyond this. erico2k2: |

sexylassie2:I swear your ignorance is truly getting tiring. Simply make your enquires come back here with evidence that I am just making figured up and I will personally recant all my assertions and render a public apology to you. I am in the academia and I know exactly what I'm telling you. I signed the bonds of 5 lecturers 3 under Tetfund and 2 under PTDF. So I dare you to prove me wrong. |

CzarChris:i dont have to prove you wrong you proved yourself wrong by claiming PTDF gives 45 million naira to phd students, last year, pdtf gave about 3,501 phd students ( Overseas Scholarship Scheme student scholarships) 3501*45,000,000 = 157545000000 naira, in dollars that will be 407,316,212.82 for only Phd overseas Students talkless of masters and undergraduate and also phd local scheme How much is ptdf buget for 2019 how much is oil revenue for nigeria 2019= N1.51 trillion you mean govt almost gave out a quarter of its oil revenue for a phd scholarship scheme, i guess you are joking you signed a bond is different from you saw the worth of the scholarship. you say they pay phd students 45,000,000 naira each but why are they begging in the uk, 45,000.000 is 100,000 pounds that is a whole lot of cash to sustain you for more than 3 years https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/356051-ptdf-nigeria-spent-n120-billion-on-project-whose-impact-cannot-be-ascertained.html |

Bolognese:some of what you wrote are true and some not true ptdf do not spend up to 145,000 pounds on a phd students even if they are not going to receive the money directly maybe i was wrong about the total number fo phd scholarships awarded last year for foreign phd scholarships..ptdf, gave about 148 phd scholarships to those that want to study in countries and universities in UK, GERMANY & FRANCE , ptdf have strategic partnership and alliances with some universities in those countries, these universities offers lot of discounts to ptdf. for example in Germany were tuition free, do you think ptdf will give the phd student 45,000,000 or what? what they do is pay their stipends as you wrote down |

Bolognese:i still think, it is an exaggeration, i still stand with my word,no scholar get up to 45 million, period, there is no even physical cash given out except your allowances. and you are no ptdf scholar, in 2016, you applied for Graduate Civil Engineer" in the department of petroleum resources. your story do not add up. now, you claim you got ptdf scholarship for bsc, msc and phd...well done.
