This is not so good, but it shows we can manage the caliber of foreigners in our country. In-fact we should have deported Chinese and British, not our Ghanaian neighbor. |

Absolute Power corrupts absolutely! These Governors appear "Power Drunk" otherwise, they should at least "respect fellow humans" and make the reason for these deportations PUBLIC! When did they become the Minister for Internal Affairs? Useless buffoons drenched in misplaced priority! mtchew! |
Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by londoner: 4:50pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
I think this is illegal though. Were they criminals or something? We don't know the background of why they were deported. I'm sure the Ondo State government are aware of the ECOWAS agreement. Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye. |

Let them deport Nigerians then, that is what the average Ghanaian wants their government to do anyway. |

Misplaced priority on the part of the government officials. I am typing this mail from an office in Accra, Ghana. I am a Nigerian and lives there but get to move around because of the nature of my work. This country, Ghana, is my adopted second country in the world. Having been to and work in many othercountries of the world that cut across all continents. Ghana is far better and more accommodating that some other countries of the world. I always feel at home whenever am in this country. So why should my own country not make Ghanaian feel the same way whenever they are in Nigeria. We share common cultural heritage; the Ga from Greater Accra( have their origin from Ile-ife), the Ashatis (are believed to be related to the Ibos). We even inter-marry ourselves i.e Ghanaians and the Nigerians. So why are we deporting them? For all you care to know, many Nigerian companies are here with a lot Nigerians working here both legally and otherwise. We should not use this to cause rift between 2 sister countries. Among the Nigerian companies are GTB, UBA, Zenith, Intercontinental, Access Banks, AMAL Bank(90% owned by Oceanic bank of Nigeria). Even until recently, the MDs of Coca Cola Ghana, Guinness Ghana and Total Ghana were all Nigerians. Globacom, Oando and Sahara Energy are all operating here in Ghana. IEI Insurance company is also here. Many of us Nigerian come here regularly to stay. Nigerian Airlines too come here, the likes of Aero, Air Nigeria, Arik and co. So we have come a long way as sister countires and so acts of deportation should not spoil the good relationships we have and we are still going to have in the future. Also, according to the constitution and demography of Ghana, they recognised 1% of the Ghanaian population to be Yorubas who actuallyoriginated from Western part of Nigeria. So we are brothers and sisters and issue of deporting the law-abidding Ghanaians in Nigeria should not come up. I know of Nigerians who own properties here and many of Nigerians students are schooling here. Only the bad eggs who are found wanting should be sent packing, the peace loving ones should not be deported. The govt should fish out the black sheep from other countries and leave the peace loving ones alone. |

Does anyone know the background to this deportation? I highly doubt someone would just get up one morning and target Ghanaians for deportation. They may be more to this story, |

This is condemnable. GEJ must act fast on this, to get those deported back to Nigeria. Obanikoro is already aware and promised to act fast on this. Agreed, some Ghanaians do ask their government to send Nigerians back home, but this is because of bad acts of some of our guys in Ghana. I live in Ghana and I know how things are here. We should use BB broadcast to stop this barbaric acts on the part of Ondo and Kwara state governments. @ londoner, I read it here. They were deported because those state governments were trying to act against Boko Haram people. Oshi o da. The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Alhaji Musiliu Obanikoro, in an interview with Daily Guide, condemned the action of the governors, describing it as the work of overzealous public officials. He promised wading into it with the view to reviewing the trend. “If it really happened, we would take action to remedy the situation. Ghana and Nigeria cannot afford to return to the old days. Our relations have improved so much that we cannot afford to allow a few officials to cause friction between us. I would take action. I condemn it in totality and would get to the bottom of it,” he said. Regarding the suspicion that the governors were responding to the danger posed by the extreme Islamic grouping, Boko Haram, he said Ghana does not have Islamic extremists |

Deport wetin? Why dem go deport Ghana ppl? Naija beta pass Ghana? |
Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by londoner: 5:38pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
@Sir Kay, so the suspicion is a possible link to Boko Haram or a similiar group? At the end of the day, Nigeria's national security comes first before inter-country relations. I think before this recent spate of BH activity, there was a group of Ghanaians and Nigeriens deported because of the same reason. |

Copied these comments from myjoyonline.com. funny little world Posted By: kwaku , 7/25/2011 1:42:07 PM Location: china i do not blame anyone but the deportees themselves. what are they still doing in nigeria. a country where they easly throw bombs at will for no reson to kill inocent people and any of you could be killed anytime ? this is very disgusting cos most of the nigerian citizens themselves are hiding their nigerian nationality anywhere they go due to the hatred they have created for themselves. however the deportees must be checked if they are not involved in any activities that are agaist the laws of that contry, otherwise they will leave to regret this. Deportation from Nigeria? Posted By: kk , 7/25/2011 1:12:50 PM Location: Accra Daily Guide ,for the first time I don't believe this story? Why should Ghanaians be deported from Nigeria? I should be the order way round. I miss Busia paaaaaaaaaaaaa today. Posted By: TIMOTHY , 7/25/2011 12:25:53 PM Location: KUMASI What? Nigerians are really ungrateful. I can't believe what am reading. I wish we could bring Busia back to take care of these ungrateful Nigerians. This is just unbelievable. If anyone had said that looking at the way things are between Ghana and Nigeria today, such a thing would happen, I wouldn't believe it. An ungrateful person cannot be a friend. What might have triggered this? Is it our recent victory over them on the football field? That was just a game but even that the ungratefuls claimed we used juju. Do we reciprocrate Posted By: Efua , 7/25/2011 12:27:49 PM Location: NJ What is our government doing about this. Ministry of Interior please take note. There are thousands of Nigerians in Ghana today taking refuge as we once did and were sent packing during the Shagari era, Nigeria continue to mess with us and take our hospitality for granted. There is no ECOWAS for greater West Africa. What does the ECOWAS states, any member of ECOWAS could stay in any West African country for at least 90 day and he or she decides to extend their stay regularize their paper. Are all the Nigerians trooping to Ghana to do business legally in Ghana. This deportation of our citizens cannot continue. oh our neighbors. Posted By: Ama , 7/25/2011 9:07:25 AM Location: Accra I think the Government of Ghana should also deport nigerians from Ghana espercially those traders at Okaishie biscuit lane and opera square. Also no nigerian should be allowed to cross the Ghanaian border at Aflao. No nigerian plane should also be made to land in Ghana. Who do these nigerians think they are? They are stealing and misbehaving in our country. They shoul be made to go back to their 'chaka chaka' country |
Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by KayDee4: 6:00pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
Im surprised to hear this because sometime I wonder how we can tell who's Nigerian and who's not. Is it by the name?? or by passport or national I.D card (most Nigerians dont have any of these). So if a Ghanian or in Nigeria decides to claim he's nigerian, how do we confirm this. Doesnt take much for anyone to get an I.D card in Nigeria and claim any state of origin. If Nigeria wants to put a check on immigration, I think the first step should be some form of registration for citizens which i think was the idea of the National I.D card project that was killed by corruption and then proper registration of babies @ birth, then pay more attention to the northern borders. Just wondering anyway. . . . . . . . |

Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by dinggle: 6:07pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
Before we jump in conclusion we must ask: * Were they in the country illegally? * Did they have expired documents? * Were they involved with forgery? (e.g travel stamps, fake passports purchase) or fraud? * Were they deemed to be affiliated hard core Muslims? not a crime to be a Muslim but if surveillance showed they were sympathetic to Boko-Haram that alone could be enough for their deportation. I don't think any state government will irrationally deport a Ghanaian. Governors are under pressure to protect their states from Boko-Haram. There is no law that allows for deportees to go home and pick their belongings those with experience from Europe, America, Asia and Africa can testify to that. However if they were able to reach their lawyers or legally resident friends that could have been arranged. I'm sure if they were residing legally in Nigeria the Ghana authorities would have taken it up. Where I might fault the action is the governors is not notifying the Ghana consulate in Lagos, which should be the first point of call when deporting an illegal alien. |
Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by solbil: 6:18pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
most nigerians in ghana are adding so much to their economy so if they do the same to our own people, they will also feel the pain but haven said that, i think it is wrong to send some one out of your country without a reason. i believe nigeria is a no mans land. it should be open to all africans especially responsible ones. nigeria should be the last country on earth to deport responsible africans it is that land where africans control their strongest institutions entirely by them selves |

If the deportees has the legal right to remain in the country (Nigeria), I think the Nigerian Government has questions to answer! If any group of people are to be deported, why are the Lebanese that treats Nigerians like second class citizens in their own country still remain and work in the country, even with expired papers!! I wonder when priorities are placed right in Nigeria, |

Nigerians and their self-hate is very appalling! Look at the bile flowing based on an unsubstantiated news! How come the news is only on Ghannian blogs and not on any reputable Ghanaian or Nigerian newspaper? Didn't the papers carry news about when Lagos and Abuja deported other Nigerian non indigenes to their states? Did Jonathan complain then? And what if they deported Ghanaians? What is the big deal? What if they are criminals and destitute? There is no big deal if the story is true! Ghana can do their worse. Is not like they like Nigerians before. |

Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by maasoap(m): 7:45pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
I don't support what happened but the article is biased. And as you can see, the writer used the word "here" referring to Ghana. These people are being deported because their sole occupation/trade in those states is cultivation of marijuana (indian hemp). And we're talking of hectares of land in the middle of the forests. But as you can see, the writer was trying to protect the image of his country fellow men by not mentioning their criminal activities. I don't know whether this is enough to deport them or not. |
Re: 45 Ghanaians Deported From Nigeria by Rastamann: 8:12pm On Jul 25, 2011 |
If this is true then ECOWAS is gradually disuniting. Why must one be deported without any reason. I hope this anomaly be corrected before it degenerates into a chaos. |
