Dru23, I had to quote you when you addressed all Nigerian insurance companies as scams. I felt offended by that comment as I work in Leadway and this is the first reaction I get from most people.
The truth is that most of the time, these people have had no direct dealings with these companies but are merely repeating what A told them happened to B they never met. It is a recurring issue that upsets me a lot as I like dealing with facts and figures, not stories they told me.

Now, someone with that mindset that comes across your post believes he or she has more confirmation to a story they have heard all too often.

I am sincerely sorry about what happened to your vehicle, it is really difficult to keep up with this thread buh I saw somewhere where you appeared to be making peace with the said driver in question. That is mature of you - as I would expect. I hope this situation has taught you a lesson and you take future precautions by insuring your vehicle next time.
Best of luck.

Personal savings in the U.S. The economy might be strong in the U.S., but nearly 70 percent of Americans have less than $1,000 stashed away, according to GOBankingRates' 2019 savings survey. The poll, released December 16, revealed 45 percent have nothing saved.Dec 18, 2019...

What makes you think an average working Nigerian can save for raining day ?

Who are you? Where do you get your statistics about Nigerians from? why are you quick to condemn Nigerians yet you sell your products to them, if they don't have savings do you expect them to steal in order to patronize you?

Quite sad to see grown men speak in certain way, I nod my head in disgust when I see comments that ain't necessary.

How you guys boldly dish out curses baffles me and a grown man body shaming someone's mother at any slight dispute, yet claims to be enlightened is really shallow.

One thing you need to understand is, no man is an island. The depth of your knowledge could just be someone's starting point. It's okay to have a constructive argument but it becomes childish when you are hell bent on shoving your opinion down on people's throat.

When it comes to infrastructure, technology and development, Nigeria and U.S shouldn't be in the same sentence, yet someone would be too quick to make U.S (a country miles ahead of us ) a reference point just to score cheap points.

I am highly disappointed with you to say the least,.. From pass post I read about you . You seem to be very intelligent person.. Am starting to feel that am much smarter than most people on nairaland..
And my exposure living outside the country has shape who I am and how things are done in a sane world. So let me explain to you my point of view.. It is only because of you and you only am going to break down my point....

USA is the power house of the world .. Economically no country can stand near us .. We got military, science ,technology than our peers .. The richest person on the planet is an American..

Now with all these advantages Most American leave pay to pay check. A study came years ago and still holds till today ... saying that a large portion of Americans do not have up to $500 stash away for emergency purpose.. Americans are in debt, most leave on their credit cards and most are in student loan debt. Some will be in debt until they are retired.... And crazy thing most don't own their homes.. It belongs to the banks

Now if an average Americans are in debt on till their retirement age , what makes it possible for anyone in a third world country will be able to save for retirement or have good savings

The economic situation in Nigeria makes it harder for their citizens to save. Nigerian minimum wage is about 30k naira a month, correct me if am wrong.

Conclusion...... I am not looking down on Nigerians at all or saying they are not capable of saving money aside. I making more of an excuse for them that due to economic hardship, which is not their fault, but the government fault, that saving will be near hard to do to or almost near impossible ..

Hospital bill can send an American into bankruptcy or wipe out their total savings

Have been doing Uber for past three years or more. I will continue to operate without any insurance, I will take my chances .

I hope you are aware that any car I buy for uber is tokunbo. To add insurance to those cars and factor in my running cost .. It is not worth it for me at all .. If today uber decides to make it a requirement for partners to have insurance, most partners will just sell their cars and move on to something.. Maintenance is a profit killer in these business already and u now want to add insurance fees on top of it ....
Now also if Lagos government decides to force uber to collect yearly operation lincense fees from partners. Which they were debating on at the time , the fee was like 100k naira a year or so .. I will just close down and sell all my cars.

How long are we continue to use this as an excuse. When you continue to make this as an excuse the nation will not move forward and you are not holding your leaders accountable or yourself..

You said we should stop comparing USA to Nigeria .. You are correct... Can we compare South Africa to Nigeria.. We need to stop making excuses for our failures as a nation and as individual.. We can't keep singing the same song and sorrow all the time..

Nigeria has more resources than South Africa. Nigeria is far richer than South Africa.. The richest black person in Africa is from Nigeria .. But South Africa so well advance than Nigeria .. If both countries should go to war today , South Africa will win the war .. How long are we going to continue making excuses

Your arguments here are flawed at best, and actually work against the point you’re trying to make.

Lots of Nigerians own houses and cars and I’m not talking about the rich ones. This is done even though we don’t live the credit life. In case you don’t get it, the point is you need to save up to acquire every thing you own here

An average American live pay check to pay check.. How do expect average Nigerians to have savings, when most live on about $10 or less a day .. My view here is it is very hard for Nigerians to save , from what type of jobs are they saving from ..

I know of a family friend that works in a bank .. She makes 150k naira a month.. Before the end of month she has spend her money. How do expect her to save money .. When her family depend on her and siblings are not working. And if they are working how much are they getting paid?

You also need jobs and a working government to do.. Am very sure that you still live at home and you are not yet married .. So the little hustling here and there makes you think you have savings?

Reality will soon check in ,when you get married starting having kids ,school fees, supporting mommy and daddy, transportation fees from wrk to home etc you now tell me how you going to save ..

If you were so smart and read to understand , you will comprehend that all am saying is that due to the economic situation, it is very hard for average Nigerians to save .....most like their counter parts in the USA live pay check to pay check.....

But your emotions and jealousy seems to get the best of you

Look around you. Your environment, government policy ,unemployment rate, lack of infrastructure etc.. Kids that should be in school hawking on the street... you need jobs that will enable you to save. Some that have jobs are not paid yet ...

Nigeria population is roughly 200 million people ,how many are gainfully employed? And the ones that do have good jobs will take discipline for them to save not prayers...

It is possible. Although I do not use an interest bearing savings, what I use is the local piggy bank (kolo)

What I do is after the close of work, I set aside 1500-2000 that I put inside my ‘kolo’, I make it the first thing to do when I get home and I have been doing it consistently since January 4.

I used the piggybank app in December and set it to automatically debit my account of 3k at 11:59pm daily.

I have been going through your comments for a while, sometimes you make lots of sense, other times, not so much. You seem to throw around the fact that you base outside the country so much as a big achievement of sorts. This is a faceless forum, so anyone can claim what ever they deem fit.
Not to undermine your claims, but you must understand that you aren't the only one 'exposed' to outside the country. Being outside the country doesn't refine your thinking, rather it refines you to the laws and principles governing that environment.

All that being said, I'd love to address your claims of Americans and their saving mannerisms. I have been opportuned to live in different parts of UK, America and Canada, so I believe I have more exposure than you irrespective of age( since you live outside the country, you should know age is not considered).
The American system is a capitalist nation that is run on a credit system basis, hence allowing comfort for eternal indebtedness. This is why the average American doesn't see the need to save when he could access credit facilities. Why pay upfront for a 2,000 dollar tooth extraction when I could pay for it over a period of 2 years. That's the mentality that their system makes them believe. In UK they believe in save a little, and depend a little. I won't go into that because that's not basis of the comparison. In Canada, they operate more like the Nigerian system, still won't go in-depth. In Nigeria however, they do not run a credit based system, in fact the average Nigerian believe in save up to get it. Hence why there are lots of house owners in Nigeria. Getting your facts right, the average American isn't as asset worthy when compared to the average Nigerian, (if you have facts to disprove this, no problem). Back to your earlier arguement. The fact that American system is conducive for their citizens and the Nigerian system isn't doesn't mean the Nigerian system is totally bad. I really don't know why you love to bring down Nigeria at every slight opportunity, or see her citizens as below average thinkers, but it's totally wrong. First rule of business, don't undermine your customers because they make you. If majority of your customers begin to boycott your products, you'll go bankrupt in your engine oil business. If you live in America like you claim, you should realize that the average American doesn't come close intellectually to the average Nigerian.

I have a lot to say, but I'll leave it at this,

P.S, I know you'll either quote me with a derogatory meme, picture or response. Just in case you don't dissappoint, it shows your superio-inferior mentality. And if you do dissapoint me, then I take it you are mature as some of your posts portray.

N.B: in all my argument I made use of the word 'average'
