Lockdown: In What Way Can You Help Your Neighborhood? by genimpact(op):
If curse and verbal abuse were instrument of development, Nigeria will have been one of the greatest in the comity of nations.

Is it not high time we ditched all curses, abuse and blame game, especially during this Covid-19 crisis, and rather be an instrument of succour to your ward/community/area?

A lot of communal/community efforts are on-going in the countries we are praising, with or without their government intervention.

I do not hold forth for our government in this crisis, but be reminded that the lower class and the vulnerable ones within us will feel the burden of this impasse more.

So what can/will you do in your area, in your own small way, for your immediate surrounding/ward/community during this lockdown?

As for me, I have identified two families around me that I would support throughout the period of lockdown.

I started that today.

Help may not necessarily be in cash. Your own help could be in;
1. Organizing a small market for your area where people can get their foodstuff needs.
2. Cooking extra food to give to the poor or vulnerable around you.
3. Be there on phone for people who need to wade off boredom, depression or it's Iikes.

Nigerians are intelligent people, I know we can come up with a thousand way to help.

Let us hear from you on how we can provide the needed succour at this trying time

Thanks for being frank on your condition.

Help can be in any form, it could be in deed or kind too.

Ensure you do one.

Enjoy your day.

Deed or Kind... None is coming from the government but we will be our brothers keeper.

Cheers.

Though I am not a prophet neither an alarmist, but I foresee that if help by the government or within ourselves does not come:

1. Some people will definitely go hungry
2. To abate their hunger, some will do the unforgivable, like breaking into their "neighbour's" house to get their fill. It will be 'your life or your foodstuff' kind of a thing.

Unruly behaviors and suicidal topics are already gracing the front page because of the lockdown

Do you think you will be able to close your eyes to sleep, despite all you have at home?

A lot of things, unimagined, could be an aftermath of our negligence.

The narratives on the reactions of people to hunger during this inevitable lockdown is getting nastier by the day.

I like what @judgementyard said in one of the threads - he said "the have nots will be forced to get what they want from the haves".

A food for thought - don't you think in your community/area/ward, despite your claim that you don't have to help, some people still see you as somebody who has it all?
When the have-nots need to fill up in your area, where would their gaze be?

Let's start caring in our community.

Cheers.
