Preparation for OSCE wasn't all boring, laboured with repetitive actions, we tried to catch fun once in a while. Like 2018 Halloween, we went a-partying in spooky costumes. I was dressed as a spooky surgeon. We went to two different clubs in one night. I remembered that the Halloween coincided with the day light saving time. When we came back in the night the clock has gone backwards by one hour. I still can not wrap my head around that phenomenon. We partied in Horley and went to Crawley to sleep. Left for Redhill the following morning.
Then in November, we had the black Friday sales, oh my goodness, we binge bought a lot of goods both in shops and online, aliexpress, next, Amazon, Ebay. Shoe zone. It was a one day madness.

The third day after OSCE, we resumed in our different clinical units. I was recruited for an acute medical unit. I turned up at the main reception as advised by our instructors and one of them led me to my ward. My unit is located at the extreme end of the hospital. I was introduced to my unit manager, ( band 7) a very young nurse in her late 20's. She welcomed me into the unit and introduced me to the other colleagues.
On duty that day was a nurse in charge another young nurse in her 30's, 3 band 5 nurses and 4 healthcare assistance. The hierarchy on the ward is, there is the Matron, and Band 8a that oversees about four wards, reporting to the Matron is the ward Manager, a band 7. There are two band 6 nurses reporting to the manager and about 7 band 5 nurses reporting to the band 6. Lastly but not the least are the HCAs. The band 6 are usually the nurse in charge of the shift. The manager handed me to the nurse in charge who was on her way to a multidisciplinary team meeting, She just grabbed my hand and said would you come with me to this meeting and we would discuss after that. We walked along the ward's hallway to the meeting room, the consultants, junior doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, the ward clerk were all seated. There was only one seat left, which was for her, she signaled for me to sit on it, she was going to stand when one of the physiotherapist went outside to bring in another chair. She introduced me to the meeting but that did not help to calm my nerves. I sat down staring blankly into the report being read, it was written in English but i could barely understand it because there were so many jargon and abbreviations. I endured the meeting till the end.
The ward is an acute medical unit, though it was meant for rheumatology. The ward consists of 11 side rooms and a big bay containing 9 beds.
She later sat down with me after introducing me to the physical lay out of the ward, She opened her the ward computer to show some documents and print out some procedures and policies. While doing this, the manager came round to drop more documents for to sign. one of the documents was for a change in status from a band 3 to band 5 status.
It was time for the morning break, the nurse in charge told me to go for my tea break in the staff room. There are 3 breaks spread across the 12 hour shift, 15 minutes tea break in the morning, 1 hour lunch break, and lastly another 15 minutes break in the evening. After the first break i worked with a HCA to understand the flow of their work. After the lunch break i was handed over to a nurse who was to become my mentor. ...

My ward is an acute medical ward that is different from other units/ward because of its lay out. Other units usually have 3 or 4 big open bays with 1 or 2 side wards. But my ward has 11 side rooms and 1 big open ward containing 9 beds. Each bed in the open bay is separated by a ceiling suspended partition screen/curtain. I have to learn the unit-specific routines quickly so that I can progress from being a supernumerary nurse to a substantive nurse. I was working under the watchful eyes of my mentor. I worked for three consecutive days and had 4 days off.
Oh my goodness, my days off was planned. First day, I was too tired to do anything, stayed indoors all through except for the moment I went to Sainsbury to get mushrooms and shrimps for my noodles. In the evening, I called my Aunt in Tottenham if I could visit the next day. She has been calling me to visit her since i came in September but i told her, i need to finish up with my OSCE before any visitation. She was surprised, she had thought that I will never visit her. She was so happy, she wanted to cancel her night shift for the following day thinking that I will spend the night. I told her she should not. I told her to send the post code and street number to me.
Then I downloaded train line app on play store, bought my ticket. I got a reference number which I will use to collect my train tickets at the station.
I woke up very early the next day to attend my hygiene. I was at the station at 0820hr. There are two ticket vending machines for quick and self service but because I didn't know how the machines work, i had to join the queue for counter collection, 5 minutes later I have two sets of tickets, one set for the forward journey and the other for the return journey. The train, Great Western train arrived on time. I have checked the screen earlier to know the platform to board. My trip was routed through Redhill -London bridge - London Liverpool - Seven Sisters and finally White hart lane. I got to London Liverpool on time but I made a mistake with the platform so I missed the train but train comes every 15 minutes.
My Aunt offered to pick me up at the white hart lane station but I declined, I wanted to use Google. She said the neiborhood around the station is a very tough and rough area.
As I came out of the white hart lane station, a group of young boys, obviously drunk accosted me- hoi hoi mate. I just picked up on me foot steps towards the stadium. The white hart lane stadium is a very imposing figure in the neighbourhood, the colour, the size, the design all stand out beautifully. Google did not disappoint me, I found myself in Edmonton so soon to a warm embrace of my aunt and her two children.

I prostrated flatly to apologise for my inability to come before now, she did understand the reason, then the merriment began in earnest. I was treated to a hot tea first then came the hot amala with an evergreen ewedu and pepper sauce assorted with Shaki, roundabout, Titus and good ol chicken. For a person that has been eating only bread and noodles for about two weeks, the meal presentation and content was like hitting a jackpot, I was eating and sweating on me forehead. After the sumptuous meal, we sat down to discuss professional practice in UK, life back home and family members. We had so much to catch up with that I did not realise that time was up for me to catch my return trip. She hurried to pack some food materials from her freezer and I bade an amala inspired farewell. I scurried on the street back to the station, went straight to the platform. My return trip was routed through white hart lane - Seven sisters - London Victoria - Redhill. At Seven sisters I made my first Tube experience. I descended the long stairs using the escalator. I marveled at how streets and rail tracks could be hidden beneath the ground, I marveled at the speed of the tube and the fact that there was no driver attached.
I got down at London Victoria and made the many flights of stairs. London Victoria was another level of rail station, like an airport terminal. I have to find my train on the screen, I needed the train going to Brighton, found it but no platform attached so I approached the personnel on one of the platform, he said the platform would come up in few minutes and it did. I got home late in the evening, my housemate was waiting for me, i regaled him with a beautiful account of my trip not knowing that he had news for me too. He and some of his friends have planned a trip to the Brighton beach the following day, he wanted to know if I could come with them, I answered in affirmation. I used the toilet, hunkered under the duvet to a deep sleep afterwards

Thank you for the commendation, this is being written in retrospect. The beach event was in December 2018.
Covid 19-wise, work routine remains the same, just extra layers of precautionary measures and stricter compliance with PPE usage and hand hygiene. How are you coping too?

Please search very well, most universities offer Msc Mental health in two years.
If you secure a job with nhs, you will start on band 5, afc. The hourly rate is relative or location dependent.

I have limited knowledge about developing the portfolio, i believe we would have expert in this forum. but by my limited understanding, A Portfolio of prior learning assessment is a compilation of all your experience and knowledge as an individual, a student, a professional. your experience in the formal and informal sector. Look at it as an expanded CV. Citing all your writings, articles, projects. If you do it well, it can earn you some credits.
I hope someone else can help you out in better way than i have done, you can post same question in the education and schools part of the forum. Also, do some digging on google, you will sure have some prototypes you can copy.
