Here is a video showing the moment some coronavirus patients begs Nigerians to stay at home and be safe.

In a video they shot inside the hospital, the patients, comprising of Nigerians and foreigners, carried placards with messages appealing to everyone to stay at home. One of the placards had the inscription ''Coronavirus is real, stay home''.

Wishing them all a speedy and full recovery. They are playing their part to show us Covid-19 is not a death sentence while urging us to do the right things.

In the end, it is joint effort from everyone that will see us through. Those who lead and those who are led should act responsibly and sensibly so we all live to fight our problems another day.

So i read on one of the post about some lagosians protesting as a result of hunger due to the lock down by the president.

Some people don't even know what we are in. Countries like US, Russia.... etc, are devising a means to fighting the deadly virus while their citizens stay indoor. Here we are in Nigeria, displaying stupidity.

It is not even like there is a lock down in lagos, because you still see people disobeying the order, you see cars running on the roads, bike riders doing their daily works, and also social distancing is a no no in this country.

Tomorrow someone would wake up and start blaming the president. This presidential work ain't easy, you have to consider many things before making a decision.

Our only hope now is for the scientists to find a cure for this virus, else the rate will keep increasing.

One thing i hate about Nigeria : no unity.

The two week's lock down by the FG is for the good of the country, we all need to endure. Now cases are rising up as a result of the shut down, people who had contracted the virus a week to the shut down are now showing symptoms.

The big question should be, " If the FG hadn't shut down markets, schools, activities...etc, what would Nigeria look like today?"

Staying at home is not the answer for a country with so much poverty. There is no point in saving ppl from the Coronavirus only for them to die of hunger and malnutrition and increased crime. The lockdown policy is simply unsustainable. It is at best a temporary measure to enable the government to get it’s act together. It is not a long-term strategy.

There is no country that has beaten the Coronavirus just by asking people to stay at home. The countries that are beating the Coronavirus, China and South Korea, both did 2 things:
1) Massive testing of suspected cases and isolation of infected people.
2) Encouraging everybody to wear face-masks in public to dramatically reduce the rate of transmission, because many carriers of the virus have no symptoms and can still spread it

Those are the key things we need to do. Shutting down the economy will rob us of the financial resources that we need to carry out the measures that actually work. If we actually calculate economic losses for each day that Lagos is closed, we would be shocked.

Just as asking people to abstain from sex to prevent AIDS never worked, but urging them to use condoms worked, asking people to stay at home when they are poor, cannot work. Our government doesn't have the resources to feed everyone until the vaccine is ready. What we need is for people to use a condom for their faces when they have to go out. If 80% of us can wear face-masks, the problem is solved.

Stop talking trash and face the realities here : you are living in a third world country that has little or no measures to contain the spread of covid-19. The best and only way possible is to tell people to stay indoors pending when virus blows over. This maybe harsh but its the cheapest and safest way to deal with this.

Seun, kindly stop this.

Your bolded is misleading. You said just by without stating that it also helps.

Massive testing when you know fully well that it will be impossible for a month. We are still planning to increase test labs to 13 by next week to see if we can get 1000-1500 tests daily.

Wearing masks will not help anyone if a carrier who is wearing masks have already used his hand to sneeze. He will simply rub it everywhere.

The lockdown was 100% necessary just that Nigeria have been cursed since 1960 that FG and states are foolishly and shamefully begging for donations.

Nigeria can afford masks for every single Nigerian since a month ago without breaking a sweat.

Aside testing kits and Isolation centres which all donated money could take care of, Nigeria should be able to take care of other things.

We are just cursed with looters as leaders that is why this lockdown is challenging but it remains the best option for a country with no health infrastructure.

Seun, leaving people to walk about freely with face mask is supposed to help find the cure? Don't you know the country you leave in, abi have you relocated? You think Nigeria is as developed as China and South Korea? A large percentage of people in this country still believes Corona virus is a myth, once you give such people the opportunity to move freely, they'll take it for granted and as you know, the symptoms doesn't manifest until after some days, so in the meantime they'll keep sharing it up and down. Is that your best solution?

The people who are seriously looking for the cure to the virus are out there fighting, the ones who can do almost nothing about it can contribute by staying at home and preventing the spread.
This period won't last forever, the only thing I wish is that the Nigerian government try to meet the needs of her citizens just like every other sane country is doing. Hunger kills faster than Corona virus sad

Staying at home helps on the short-term, but it's not sustainable on the long term. Here's an analogy: staying at home prevents car accidents. But you don't see any country asking people to stay at home to reduce the rate of car accidents. Instead what they do is encourage safety measures like wearing seat belts, defensive driving, and not overspeeding, so that we can conduct our businesses without crashing our cars.

In the same way, the government should encourage the wearing of face-masks by everybody, everywhere. They should teach people how to use their face-masks properly to achieve the benefits, just as they are teaching people to wash their hands. They should insist that every home and every business and every bus must enforce the washing of hands before people are allowed to enter it. Violators should be punished reasonably.

You don't seem to get it with the way you are using car analogy here.

That short-term it will work will save millions of life.

Are you saying the doctors and nurses that have died abroad were not using protective gears?

That's how dangerous this covid 19 is.

Once you meet an infected person, with or without mask, you are instantly as risk.

You are trying to push for mask wearing as opposed to the lockdown.

However, its better the lockdown continues and people are days on when to come out but must be with mask.

Stopping the lockdown and relying on mask will kill millions of Nigerians.

Seun is right in a way. Millions of Nigerians are poor and can't afford to stockpile their homes with food stuff. You expect them to be in isolation with empty stomach, millions of people that are hungry are more deadly than the corona virus the government are trying to prevent. Several countries have announced massive stimulus packages to tackle this covid-19 crisis, Nigeria government are announcing audio stimulus package.

Lockdowns are especially unsustainable in poor countries. Poor people cannot stay at home for long. All over the world, celebrities are sitting at home and encouraging us to do the same because they don't have to work. Poor people have to work. Our government can’t feed them all.

The best and only way possible is to tell people to stay indoors pending when virus blows over.
The virus will be with us for months. The vaccine won't be available until next year. Massive testing and isolation, enforcement of face-masks and hygiene, etc can be sustained for years in a strong economy. Lockdowns can't. People are already protesting in Lagos after just two days!

This maybe harsh but its the cheapest and safest way to deal with this.
It is not cheap. The wealth of a nation is the productivity of its people. A nation whose people are not working grows poorer every day. The true cost of the lockdown is the value of the goods and services that people would have produced if they were not forced to stay at home. The cost of massive testing and putting a mask on every face is high, but compared to the loss of productivity due to the lockdown, it's nothing at all.
